Derek asking for people to vote for the last line of the film is a sign of self awareness. He realizes he has no ability to understand appropriate human behavior and needs people to help decide if his idea is great or horribly inappropriate.
I completely believe this HAS to be because he realizes how bad this looks now but he still promised to do it and it's the only thing his audience actually wants. So he's trying to pre-prepare for backlash by giving himself the option to be like "W- Well, we put it up to a poll and people wanted this version, so it's not my fault if it sounds really bad!" That HAS to be what this is.
I'm not completely convinced that Derek Savage isn't a tiny alien who landed on Earth, accidentally discovered meth, and then built a flesh suit to pilot around.
It's funny how quickly Adum can identify problems with Derek's decision-making whereas Derek, with all the time in the world, can't see anything wrong. Ending a children's educational film with the main villain threatening to murder the protagonist is so obviously insane but Daddy Derek just sees it as a garden-variety cliffhanger.
