This is my favourite Eurovision song ever - and not just the song, but the musicality of both the soloist and the backing group, the costumes, and the wonderful staging. After last night's 2024 display of raucous shouting, writhing, thrashing about, and general shock tactics, I don't think the event deserves the title "Song Contest" any more - and I deeply regret it. It used to be one of my favourite events of the year.
This is the absolute example of how a perfect live performance sounds. Perfect leading vocals, perfect backing vocals, perfect sound mix, the result is even better than the studio version. Pure excellence! And the song is so sweet and Johanna is so unbelievably charming! This would have made such a great winner! Too bad that 4 winner entries crashed into each other in the same year. Iceland, Norway, France and Estonia all deserved to win. 2009 was such a unique year!
So true. Australia here - and still remember getting goosebumps watching her performance. I could not believe what a FLAWLESS live performance it was - like beyond perfection. Even better than the studio version, which is still amazing. Rare for a live performance to actually be that good. I so wanted this to win, but like you said, it was such a rare year.
Yay, I'm not alone! :D No, but really: I've found his song irritating from day one. It's annoying because it feels like a song I _should_ like, but there's something about the way he sings that just gets on my nerves. It's eight years later and I'm still sad that this song didn't win.
One of the best Nordic entries ever. Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark have all gotten their fame. I really hope Iceland gets it in the coming years.
I remember I was a kid and was so amazed looking at her... Felt like falling in love by watching her... Many years passed since then and I still remember her entry
She also could have won in 2010. This is far superior than Satellite both in terms of song and vocal performance. I don't know if I am in the minority, but I am of the opinion that Satellite is quite a mediocre song, Lena can't sing to save her life and her accent, enunciation, or whatever is very annoying.
Where are such quality songs, vocals and stage? A crystal clear voice, backing vocals, support, choreography, costume straight out of a fairy tale, I want the old Eurovision.
One of greatest eurovision songs and singers. And her follow up song "slow down" should have respresented Iceland a few years later. Please Yohanna come back to eurovision again.
We have to admit that the stage design really helped the song to be even more romantic and beautiful, it is a great song, Russians put to much money in organising the Eurovision and building this stage, at the time it was on a very high level compared to other contests
I have been watching EUrovision since 2008. As to me it is the best song. I loved it in 2009 and still loving. Warm greetings to Iceland from Azerbaijan😊
One of our best entries ever, and so above the standard of what we usually send. Very special, and Yohanna nailed the performance (both times!). We were unlucky to go up against Rybak that year, but I will always be proud of this effort.
Yohanna is so beautiful. I think that will be very difficult to the icelandic singers to reach an amazing and beautiful song like this. I'm in love forever with this girl peformance and song... for my the real winner of 2009 :) Greetings to Reykjavik from Mexico :)
I loved this song and wanted her to win. Just watched the Eurovision movie on Netflix and thought of the song. Iceland is also one of my most favourite countries I visited while I lived in London.
Unfortunately no, not by a long shot. You can't look at a song with 169 fewer points than the first-place song and boldly claim it as "THE REAL WINNER". It just doesn't work that way.
