Three weeks after missing the world record by .01 seconds, Yomif Kejelcha gets it done here at Boston University, lowering the world record mark from 3:48.45 (by El Guerrouj) to 3:47.01. Johnny Gregorek also runs sub 3:50 placing him as the 2nd fastest American all-time.

Daniel W. Keep in mind the fact that eliud kipchoge doesn’t even have near enough speed to run this mile time and yomif doesn’t have anywhere near the aerobic capacity to go at 4:35 mile pace for 26.2 miles. Both are world class times both equally impressive

It will with the new nike viperfly
@alansamuel2454
@alansamuel2454 4 года назад
@@88wizeguy Not likely. Vapor fly does not bring that much improvement to the lower running distances. Too much speculation. A marathon is 26 miles+ so any minor improvement will multiply and give a sizeable advantage over those not wearing it. But Some crazy guys are there saying that Coleman can break Bolt's record with it. But Cheruiyot can come very close , possibly up to 3:27. He can def break his PB with it if he trains and runs in it. And his mile world record WILL NOT even come close to by anyone. Going sub 3:50 is in itself respectable nowadays and kind of rare.
@88wizeguy
@88wizeguy 4 года назад
@@alansamuel2454 first of all for breaking bolts record noah Lyles has the best shot. And the VIPERfly spikes will definitely help him. Give it 5 years for shoe technology to advance and some freak athlete will "break" hichams mile record. But it really wont count considering hicham ran it way before all these new shoes started coming out
@alansamuel2454
@alansamuel2454 4 года назад
@@88wizeguy Best shot is true. The nice thing is that Bolt and Lyles ran with a headwind of -0.3m/s and -0.1 m/s. So if Lyles really goes out hard and finishes well and has a decent wind reading he can easily break the American record and with some degree of possibility even Blake's. And yes eventually some new shoes will come out that will be monumental for lower distances like vapor fly is for marathon. Considering 18 year old Ingebritsen is running 3:30, there will come in maybe 10 years someone of his age capable of at least a 3:28. But yeah you're right it is really not right to count them as WR.
@88wizeguy
@88wizeguy 4 года назад

I bet these clocks aren’t calibrated the same as Olympic timing machines. Great run, absolutely. The kids got a big future ahead of him, but the gap between this college athlete and the American record is probably more than what it appears to be, probably another few seconds.

Nick Jensen you think these fully automated clocks are seconds slower than the ones used in the Olympics? What in the world are you saying?? Pretty sure all FAT clocks are calibrated the same lol. Also, this was run indoors. If Kejelcha had this type of race outdoors he would have easily gone below the American record mark.
