Hi liked and subbed. You've done some of the same things as me. I want to do this one soon, we did pen y Ghent on the Pennine way a few weeks ago but the 3 peaks is yet to come. I look forward to following your adventures.

Well done. I I the YTP twice this year in superb weather conditions (in June Solo, then again in September with my husband). Will be doing it again next year. Fantastic views! Love this challenge. I was lucky as I had clear views, sunny weather but not too hot both times.

Well done Paul. Expertly judged! Well deserved pie and pint. Bet you slept well... 👍 🥾 🍺

It wasn't exactly expertly judged. The last 2 hours I had to pick my pace up because I started to worry about the time.
@JustinWhiting9

Well, it’s good that you gauged your effort to look after your knees and make sure you completed it. Then you had some energy left to speed up at the end. Over 12 hours that is good judgement Paul. Look after your pegs fella! 👍

Hi Russell, i would advise making sure you have a good level of fitness, don't over pack your rucksack with unnecessary items (keep the weight down) and when you stop for a break don't sit around too long.

Congratulation! It looks like you started easier and slower than you finished. Are there any water sources on the way or you had to carry it from start? Thanks for sharing, Seb
@PaulWillcocks
@PaulWillcocks 5 лет назад
Hi Sab, before I started I wasn't sure of the water situation so I carried 2L of water and my filter. Now that I've finished if I was to do it again I wouldn't carry so much water as there are rivers and streams all the way.

How hard is this compared to the 3 peaks challenge, anyone, thanks, also is it pretty easy to follow Paul, would I need a map and compass? well done on completion 👍🏻👍🏻
@PaulWillcocks
@PaulWillcocks 2 года назад
If you are referring to the national 3 peak challenge then this is easier, I used OS maps on my phone to navigate and although it's fairly easy to find your way I would definitely recommend using something GPS or map and compass.

Hi paul, well done, we did it last weekend and it took us best part of 13 hours, the diversion up Ingleborough is the toughest bit of hiking i`ve ever done, cramp sets in. cafe was open at the farm just before the Old Hill Inn and orange squash is £1.20 and free waterbottle fill and the burger van at Ribblehead was a saviour, thanks for posting this, i`m sending the link to my daughter in Oz so she has some idea of the pain, I`m sticking to the canal from now on
@PaulWillcocks

Hi Gary, it certainly is a tough hike but for me the burger van wasn't there and I was looking forward to it aww. I've just completed The Great Glen Way if you're interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nMVxC88P_Pc.html

Thanks. The toughest trail I've hiked so far was the Hebridean Way were I did have knee problems probably from all the road walking. I'm planning 3 long distance hike this year, one that I've hiked before and two new ones.

Nice hike, thanks for taking us along. I wonder why you don't use poles - ever since I started to walk with sticks every part of the path gets easier. Of course, you need the right technique - I see many people just dragging them along, not putting any weight or power on them. The only downside is that they become a nuisance when you're taking lots of pictures 😁
@DJOutdoors

Stefan Wimmer think he has a zpacks tent that uses hiking poles so I would imagine he does

Hi Stefan, I do normally use hiking poles when hiking multi-day long distance trails with a full backpack but for this day hike I decided because my pack was so light I wouldn't bother. In hindsight I should have used them.

Paul Willcocks thanks for the optimism I’m currently on furlough with work so if say curfew is lifted in September I may not be able to move my holiday so have to see, I guess it will always be there and I could do weekend things like the Yorkshire 3 peaks. watching Darwin’s PCT is good. Best wishes to you.

@@mamtorthedestroyer1168 The Coast to Coast will always be there for you. I've had to cancel my Pennine Way hike twice now over the last two years so I know how you feel but we must all respect the government rules and stay at home. I don't work for the NHS but am a key worker so I'm still going to work at the moment. Hopefully in 3 or 4 months this will all be over and we can start hiking again.

good job on a rough climb! Pen y Ghent is a real throw into the deep end! I've ran and walked it, and they're both equally brutal! If you could go back and do it again whats your best piece of advice?
@PaulWillcocks
@PaulWillcocks 3 года назад
Good question, I had to think about this for a bit. Before I started I already had an average to good level of physical fitness and because I've done a lot of long distance hikes before I know my footwear/gear are suitable for the challenge. If I was going to do it again I would change where and for how long I would rest. I would stop more often but only for 5 minutes each time. Well done running it. That would have killed me.
@caniultrarun859
@caniultrarun859 3 года назад
@@PaulWillcocks It was pretty brutal, I have walked it before aswell though and that was equally as tough, but a different kind of pain. Hips and joints especially on the walking. I think you're right, the flat between the 2nd and 3rd peak Inglebrough is actually fairly short and with such a steep decline on the 2nd to then straight up the scramble on the 3rd is a real eye opener! Subscribed to see the next adventure. Keep it up.
