This is a great question. And this situation is dire. Unfortunately, since he is an adult and has not been adjudicated incompetent, you cannot make him or force him to do anything. However, you can structure situations where you’re in charge and he’s not. For example, you can have his bills come to you, or whomever is the decision maker electronically, and that person can pay all of his bills without him even knowing it. As far as him not taking his medication, unfortunately, there may be an emergency situation whereas he may have to be transported to the hospital. And things begin to shifts from there. There is no easy answer for situations like this. But, you can reach out to a geriatric care manager to help you navigate these types of situations.
