Guess you could consider this the 1st Visual album in Kpop, it actually tells an entire story - he explains it in his Film Kai commentary on YT It's interesting that you mentioned Gucci in 1st video cause he's actually the 1st Korean global ambassador for them and a lot of the props in that video were provided by them. Regarding the masked people that appear, he mentioned that they're representations of him himself, considering how one is a man and one a woman it could be his masculine and feminine side. NoM part - you mentioned ballet, this was technically a more lyrical/contemporary piece but he's actually a classically trained ballet dancer (he started off with Jazz dance). He used to train ballet since he was a little kid until he joined SM. Also this was his 1st release ever, 1st mini album so he came out of the gates swinging

very glad i stumbled upon this video, it was very interresting and you caught a lot of details i never saw before despite having watched FILM : KAI so many times haha you can find two behind the scenes videos for both the 'Mmmh' mv and FILM : KAI (called "Production Record from KAI") as well as a video of Kai himself reacting to FILM : KAI (title of the video : "FILM : KAI 🐻같이 보자 카이🐻 | FILM : KAI Commentary") i think you'd like watching them! - HELLO STRANGER : it is indeed a trick done with projecting his image on smoke! i also absolutely loved how the backup dancer suddenly appears it's so well done - REASON : Kai did film in an actual box, something you can see in the behind the scenes videos i mentionned if you're interrested :) ; i didn't actually notice that the camera work always puts him in the middle it's so cool ; and yes his genuine smile shows how happy he was to finally be able to showcase his individual art after 8 years! - AMNESIA : the details of the trains and lights in the back to create dimension is so cool ; the cuts on beat make sense for Kai who's known as one of the best dancers in the industry and to always be on beat haha - NOTHING ON ME : Kai is actually trained in ballet and contemporary dance and made it popular through his solo performances in the past ; in his reaction video to FILM : KAI, he did say that the woman in the mirror is supposed to represent him/is a sort of alter ego ; i never noticed the drone before haha ; the hectiness of his movements vs the calm of the dancers and his red outfit vs black for the dancers create such a beautiful duality -RIDE OR D!E : the way the lights go on when he snaps is so amazing, the light design here is just spectacular ; i love the "star" created with the lights and dancers overall, FILM : KAI is for me the best cinematic work put out in kpop in 2020 and i'm very glad you liked it! your comments were extremely interresting and i'd also love it if Kai could release a documentary one day, his artistry is so amazing thank you for the reaction!

This video was specifically made as a medley for the different songs on the album. That part of Kai in Berlin was actually green screened hahaha someone correct me if I'm wrong, remember seeing it in the 'making of' video of the film. Kai was also very involved in the conceptualisation of this video. Also love how you mentioned the camera movements in 'nothing on me' reminded you of ballet as Kai is actually trained in ballet and jazz dance.

The projection in the first song is in the same outfit as the last, so I think it adds up to that concept of what you called “alter-ego”. I am not sure about your question regarding alter ago, but he definitely is one is the artists with extreme duality, where his stage persona is polar opposite of his off screen personality, so I am sure it kind of connects with that personal meaning in some way. He was also said to be involved in every aspect of the project himself and had “free reign”, unlike when group projects are done and they each have an assigned part.

Mmmh was Kai first solo music video. This film is maked for his solo debut, and songs are from his solo EP. (This was released a few days before Mmmh) So no, sadly there are not full length music videos of these songs. These are all new. Yes Kai is more ripped than Taemin.

This film use a lot of space to show two of him, the inside and outside. In Hello Stranger, when he was in the bathtub he was lost. The one on fog screen is who he said on stage, and there’s another himself following like a shadow. In Reason, the green upper garment and the red bottom have some rebel style, that constitute a harmonious outside image. One with black and white in box shows inside. Amnesia have bright and dark one of him. Mmmh cut him to different screen. It also fit the superpowers concept in exo. (Kai’s is teleportation) Nothing on me. He tumbled and struggled. The woman in mirror is his inside, what he said in live, just like sun and moon. And the motion of woman is sharp, of man is soft. It makes him sacred. When the shot change, the white shirt become red, he was blocked in it and struggle again. Then Ride or Die. The whole film forms a perfect circle, and shows his previous life in it.

Just found your channel! Below are some of my thoughts and comments! Loved the video! 4:23 The projected video was shot separately and isn’t a camera at a different angle. You can tell because his clothes are different. In the room he’s wearing suspenders only but in the projection he’s got a waist coat and tie. So he really is just that in sync with the projection. 7:10 I think that’s kind of the point.He walks into a fancy restaurant with all of these obnoxious and uppity people and seemingly laughs at them. He’s dressed down and is dancing hip hop doing his thing out in the open juxtaposed by a box in the center presenting him as entertainment which seemingly cages him in but ultimately frees him. 19:48 I agree I thought this was beautiful and really creative. I especially loved that because the lights are all around Kai and pointed at him in the center shadows come are created in a similar star formation and seem to lead to where the dancers are in between the lights which adds to a possible symbolism to the dancers.

Kai is such a superb artist. Really one of his kind. The amount of discipline and work that went into his first solo album, it shows clearly. He embodies perfection, class and stability in his work. I couldn't be more proud of him and hope and pray the world sees it too.

exo has a concept storyline where their world has parallel universe, and Kai can travel freely between them. That's why his stage name is 'Kai'(which means 'door' in chinese). The whole film is basically him in different universes.

I really enjoyed your reaction to film Kai. You give interesting insights into technical aspects & techniques. Kai’s film is very unique and amazing way to introduce him as a solo artist (I think he might have been a bit ‘worried’ because to this point he was part of a group his whole career with EXO & SuperM). I read that Kai did seek input/advice from pal Taemin. Taemin once said about debuting as a solo act…that up to that point he had his hyungs and multiple input/feedback. Suddenly he was alone on the stage (dancers aside) and decisions were on him(self). Kai film was a successful intro for ‘rookie soloist Kai’. Love the album!
