In today's video, I'll be answering some top questions from my previous videos:
DisplayPort Capability: Do Rock 5A and Rock 5B support DisplayPort over USB-C? Can they handle higher refresh rates than Raspberry Pi 5?
Hard Drive Compatibility: Does the Radxa SATA hat support standard 2.5-inch disks?
Network Adapter Performance: What happens when you connect a 2.5GB USB 3.0 ethernet adapter to a Raspberry Pi 5 NAS using a Radxa SATA Hat? Let's talk file transfer performance.
Portable Touchscreen Recommendations: Looking for a touchscreen for your Raspberry Pi 5? I've got a suggestion for you.
Grab a coffee, and let’s dive into these questions!
All the items I used in the video are below, LINKS ARE NOT AFFILIATE LINKS.

This video series inspired my RPI5 NAS, so thanks! I'm just running one 2TB nvme for files though. Also, I was able to get my 2.5gb usb adapter to work once the system was up and running only. Then I used omv-firstaid and set the network interface to dhcp and was off. My iperf scores were 2.36 Gbits/sec, so full saturation. I'm unable to get the usb adapter to persist through reboots though, when it comes back up I have to unplug and plug back in the adapter for it to take the static IP assigned from my router.

That was very interesting. that NAS might even be worth it.

Rock 5A does not have USB type C DP alt mode. Ahh, you mean DSI when you say "Display Port"?

The RK3588S actually supports DP1.4 alt mode per Radxa’s 5A schematic. There just isn’t kernel support for simultaneous PD and DP alt mode (yet, it has something to do with power delivery negotiation but I think Collabora is working on resolving this too)

Rushil responded before I could. Thanks to both of you for highlighting this, I forgot to mention it in the video and just straight went for Rock5B to showcase the DP

10:04 I also have that network error, adding 1.5 minutes to the boot time! 😞

In my case it was because I used the 2.5GBps ethernet adapter and didn't configure the network for it. Have you tried the solution suggested here? forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=187225

I want to make a mini home server with the NAS function and a few others (arm because it consumes less electricity) I found this Radx Penta Hat and I'm wondering which SBC computer to choose: Raspberry Pi 5 or Radx Rock 5A? which is faster when using NAS, which has a larger power reserve (I know that the Rock 5A has a larger one but is the Pi 5 sufficient or is it better to use the Rock 5A), I also heard that the Pi 5 has some problems when not using a PD charger or with radxa rock 5A are there any problems too? I have a 5V5A UPS and I don't want to stop using it because of PD.

tkaiser just tested dual 2.5 Gbit adapters with SMB multichannel (on another board - Rock 5 ITX) and got 600 MB/second over samba. With that many of them you could also try!
@TechnicallyUnsure
@TechnicallyUnsure 4 месяца назад
Oh wow, that's amazing, did you enable SMB multichannel just by editing smb.conf or was it more involved than that? I haven't tried SMB multichannel in OpenMediaVault or Raspberry Pi.

SATA 6 gigabits per second, not 6 gigabytes per second. That's an 8X difference in speed...

Uh oh... Did I say gigabyte? Sorry about that, you are right. It's definitely gigabit, not gigabyte

how about 3.5inch hdds? penta website says it should work, and should allow for higher storage
@Rushil69420
@Rushil69420 4 месяца назад
I think he addresses it and says they’ll work, you’ll just need to run cables out to them in a separate enclosure since they won’t fit on the hat itself.

Unfortunately no, it's for ROCK 5A, at least Rock 5B is not listed as supported on their own website.
