Just bought a new 2021 GT today. I tried to buy another Scat Pack yesterday, but the Dodge dealer wanted $5000 over MSRP and nearly $2000 in dealer fees. Ford dealer knocked off $500 from MSRP and just added tax, so, Ford won this time. It has been 8 years since my last 2012 Mustang, so looking forward to the new toy!
Congrats! The I have also had both and the S550 just drives soooo much better. I am also in disbelief at the price of the Mopars today. I just sold the 20 Mustang GT I bought last year for 35,800 for 44,600 because of these messed up times. I will get another later
Yes sir. Alot of new cars are going for inflated price like used ones. A widebody charger hellcat redeye in Florida at a dealership got into a bidding war with 2 buyers and one of em was dumb enough to pay nearly 8k over sticker for it just to have it.
@@darkNovaskar when the BS that's happening ends or they force full electric the inflated price they paid will drop and that extra money they piled on to the loan plus interest if it's Finaced or if the economy goes kaput with this inflation, it will be stupid. They will be so far upside down Goodluck getting unburied from the loan
thats crazy dude, I custom ordered my scat pack wide body and paid sticker minus 1500 dollar rebate with a 200 dollar dealer fee. dealer lot cars are way more expensive than ordering a car to your spec. crazy. its also cheaper to order your own car than buying a USED scatpack WB. just insane. don't know why anyone would do that.
Hellion is worth the bucks. The research and development of this sc system is Hellions strength. All you need to do is reach out with the question. They want you to win, they have expertise to help you win. RacerX, lead us out of ignorance. Amen
I have a 420hp 2013 Mustang and the punch isn't as good as the Hemis, but once you hit 30-40 mph it starts hitting hard. lol Coyote is definitely a high RPM engine. I am really impressed that it keeps up with stock Scatpacks, based on my experience.
I've had 5 Mopars (2 Hellcats, 2 Scat Packs and 1 RT). I recently got my 1st Coyote Mustang, a 2021 GT with a 6 speed manual and it is a total different driving experience. The Mustang with the small displacement 5.0L lacks the low end grunt my pushrod Mopar's had but it makes up for it as you rev the engine, it just keeps pulling. I had to learn how to drive the car, but once I did, it's fun as heck! It's got less weight and handles a bit better also. I might get another Mopar as a second car though, because I do miss the raw power of the pushrod engines!
You should have got automatic I know people say your not driving if it’s not manual but I’ve heard that the manual trans is way weaker than the auto trans they put in
I love the raw power of the 6.4!!! I just got mine Friday finally and learning how to drive it is fun and new so I couldn't imagine you switching and learning again. Good times!!! Great video!!!
I’ve been wanting a Scatpack Challenger for awhile now. I really don’t like the body styles on the new Mustangs so I’ve pretty much ditched them. However, I was back home and drove my dad’s 2006 Mustang GT and it only has 300 hp. I forgot how punchy it was once you got above 3,000 RPM’s. It got me thinking if the Scatpack is too much…I don’t think I’ll ever go back to Ford though.
My 350r is nowhere near this power because it’s stock but the power is definitely up top. I love how the higher the rpm’s go, the harder it pulls. I love doing some spirited backroad driving between 5000-7500rpms. I like to imagine the guys in the homes I pass on said backroads appreciate the sound too lol
Love how you did this video! Great job explaining the differences. The demo ,when the white truck passed you and you nailed and passed him back was awesome.
That's awesome that you're gaining more knowledge and experience with that setup. To me, the best part is how much you've already driven it and thought you were getting used to it until Hellion told you to rev it higher. The expressions on your face were priceless as if somebody snuck gobs more horsepower under the hood without you knowing! Definitely looking forward to your dragstrip improvements!
@RacerX-One of the things you'll find once the transmission is built that you might want to get a higher stall torque converter. From a dig the car will perform much better out of the hole by launching in boost. With the lock up feature in modern torque converters, you don't lose as much drivability as you would think. RPM is the key with the Mustang. You have to rev them to make power.
I was waiting for a Video like this! Let's go Racer X! Just stopped by to show some Love. Can't wait! Throwing this Vid on the 65" and kicking my feet up for sure! This is why I think Dodge takes the title for "Best Muscle", and I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job explaining it!
Been watching u since about 30k subscribers. You've come along keep up the great work. Love the mustang and the mopars you had. Love the growl of the stang
LOVE THE BOWFINGER SCENE!!!! One of the most underrated comedies. Once again Great content!! I just retired last month and will be getting a Challenger or a Mustang next Spring.
This was such an interesting video for me to watch I have never been in a Turbo car and was shocked by the lag, my supercharger feels like it has power everywhere instantaneously as I touch the gas.
Not hating on the Mustang when I say this, I actually think it is the best car for the money on the markey period. That said, stock for stock from a dig you will feel more torque in a 5.7 Challenger. You really need to retrain yourself to drive the modular V8. I love the Fords and Mopars. What a time to be alive.
agreed. you get more bang for your buck with mustang (and maybe even camaros) than you do with any Dodge vehicle edit: still sticking with dodge tho, MOPARRR
How would you feel more torque than a 5.0. I literally tie with the with 5.7s in my gs350 even edge them out, vs in my 5.0 I leave them buss lengths, don't even bother racing them anymore.
@@nismoaltima1326 The "feeling" of torque and the effectiveness of horse power are two different things. Yes the overgeared manual Mustang wins everytime but honestly the 5.7 Challenger with the A8 feels hornier stoplight to stoplight. Pushrod vs modular. (Talking on the street here, not dumping clutches at 4000+ rpm). I have had and loved both.
Welcome to the turbo life RacerX! Another great advantage with a turbo car is brake boosting. When roll racing you're not always able to get the RPMS where you want them depending on the roll speed. If you so happen to run into a FBO hellcat you're going to need boost right away! By brake boosting you can have boost at 4500rpm, if you've the traction available you can take full advantage of the rpms from 4500-8000rpm! Feels like a slingshot, try it man!!
@@RacerX9 Agreed. But a small price to pay to lay the gap on the competion! lol. Maybe even alil bit of brake boosting would make the difference up considering you've twins. I would love to see a 60-130mph comparison between the two!
Lol love the Transformers sound fx Racer lol! I'm still anxious to see what Mopar you've ordered. After seeing this, I'm guessing it might be the Durango. Not a mustang fan but this one really pulls in the higher rpms!
Although I’m not a racer, you provide some great info. All makes sense, and your honesty when comparing the mustang with other cars is truly appreciated.
I always thought that a Supercharger works better on a OHV setup and Turbo for a DOHC setup. Atleast that's the logic I have gone with. I can totally see that those turbos want to play in the higher RPM band. Great video Racer X!
Yeah racer x that is very common with those mustangs I have friends that have mustangs I have one and they all say the same thing they complain about there's not enough power coming off the line but once it gets going it really moves out I get good results when I'm doing roll races in a low gear maybe second gear that car really performs well when I do that good video resets
I'm going to be that guy in the back of the class that raises his hand to remind everyone that not everyone thanks drag racing is fun, in fact some people think it's quite boring. The S550 has clearly been designed with handling in mind, and I know it's a foreign concept to drag racers, but some of us prefer a chassis set-up for handling.
Nice video, Bro. You're right, completely different types of engines. Every time I raced a Scat, he got the jump on me, and every time, a second later, I'd catch and pass him. The Mustang has good low end torque. 420 lb feet of torque is nothing to sneeze at, but if you love low end torque, the V8 Challengers are the way to go. That throw back in your seat feeling they give you is awesome! BTW, if you had just a little more track, you would have passed that Hellcat. You were just coming in to your power band, while he had already topped out.
Great vid Racer-X, own a '15 mustang gt.. terrible low end torque, put in a cold air kit and a tune. Better low end, but the engine does it's best work above 6500.. really screams between 65 and 7500 rpm..Still a great engine, saving up for a Whipple. Then it will smoke the the tires down low.. keep up the great work!!
When I test drove my 2020 with 3,000 miles on it (already broke in) I pinned it @ 2000 rpms in 3rd gear and like nothing happened haha. I thought the car was running funny or something. Then as the rpms were climbing I realized what these cars want. However, I still struggle winding it out all the time.
I'm still learning my Scat Charger. I found a sweet spot from second to third gear rolling start. Bring it up mid RPM in second and bury the throttle while hitting third. Most of the time she wont spin but hook up and pull super hard. It's my show off setting when i have a new passenger.
@@lagerbeer1974 All i can say is Torque. Lots of torque. Fun to have that power down low. At 57 years old i'm not looking for 2 or 3 tenths of a second faster, I'm looking for the most fun and dodge has that old school muscle car feel. Build quality on all these cars seems to be sorted out as the platforms have been around a while. Currently 12,000 Miles no problems
@@PJHEATERMAN Thanks for the response. I just bought a 2021 challenger scatpack 6 speed, and you are right! Lots of torque. Although I haven't floored it yet because of the "break-in" its very peppy for a heavy car. I'm loving it so far. Just waiting for the snow to stop lol
You should try Lund Racing for tuning. PBD is really just a WOT tuner. Lund has it locked down and has the records to show for it. At the very least it would be a great video to see how your car would run vs PBD.
The Coyote revs at a much higher RPM range than the Hemi. At my local NHRA track they run a Coyote race only class for all Mustangs built with Coyote engines where winners are weighed after each run. They leave with the wheels in the air at screening RPMs. Where my Chrysler 300C 5.7 running a stock tune couldn't handle those RPMs. It shifts around 6000. (I recommend driving a Shelby GT350. The flat plane crank is extremely high revving which feels like you need to shift before you red line around 8000 RPMS). The aforementioned Coyote cars run 9s in a quarter mile. You get the hang of driving your hot twin turbo Stang. Very few vehicles will want to line up against you. Tomorrow my track is running drive in street, bracket racing which I really enjoy running in. I have a feeling you could sneak through tech since your Mustang looks stock under the hood and dominate some Hellcats, Red-eyes and GT500s. By the way. What was your ET against that Hellcat?
I can't wait to get my twin turbo set up. I been on the fence between hellion TT and vmp kit. I might pull the trigger on the hellion have them boys at gearhead install it!!
@@RacerX9 yes between the research i been doing and watching your vids! Let's just say for what i want out of the build this would be the no brainer way to good! But loving all the videos you put out keep it up!
I loved the low end TQ of the Scat Valve train was trash I traded in for a mustang all aluminum 5.0 liter better heat management I'll miss the Scat but not those junky MDS lifters, it was a weekend driver only, I changed the oil three times in only 7900 miles and after sitting in my Garage for sometimes two to three weeks those lifters would tick a little if I would've kept the car I would've got rid of that MDS SYSTEM.
I'll take a Big Block Mopar anyday over a girlish/boyish mushing. You shoulda stuck with DODGE brother! The REAL man's muscle car. I've killed every mustang I've meant on track & street. Plus 99.9% racing for most average gearheads, is straight line dragging anyways. Plus If I ever wanna to go around corners very fast on a smooth track, it wouldn't buy a mushing anyways.
I went the opposite way, ditched my Mustang and went to a Challenger. The Mustang is a budget sports car, the Challenger is a luxury Muscle car. I enjoyed my 15 Mustang GT for the most part but hated the low end power delivery and it felt just all around cheaply made, it didn’t help that everybody owns one. There’s 4 S550 GT’s in my neighborhood alone.
Also, looks like the car needs a converter and trans brake or 2 step. Bet it still has 3.15 gears too instead of 3.55. TVS 2650 would have given you off idle torque but Turbos are better with a converter and trans brake.
I don't know about you or anyone else but Ford didn't take the government bayout gm and Chrysler did and ford's working with a smaller engine I salute them for this
if my mom never got a 2014 chrysler 200 and got the 2012 ford fusion instead id be driving a mustang right now. keep in mind, she asked me, after she test drove those cars which one I liked better. i chose the chrysler. MOPAR. i still like mustang, beautiful and beast cars
Coyote's are most effcient with turbo's, DOHC brings that nature. A whipple car is still insanely fast, but the top end of the OHC design is better complimented with the Turbos.
@@169abr I agree that turbos are the most efficient way of making big power. For a max effort roll race car or drag car with transbrake and 2 step, it's also the fastest. However, If we are talking about just a fun street car, I would prefer the 3.0L whipple or any other positive displacement blower over a turbo setup. With the turbos, you really have to be up in the rpm range to get the power out of it. Turbos don't fully spool until 4500-5000 rpm on a coyote and there is a massive torque spike in the mid range while it is spooling. Power comes on like light switch. Fun as hell while in a straight line, but not so much in a turn having fun on a mountain road. PD blowers have a much flatter torque curve since the boost is always there, which means the car is much more predictable, and you don't have to rev the hell out of it to get that push you back in your seat feeling. Being a street car I just feel PD is a better experience from idle to 5,000 rpm where you will be most of the time.
@@Jr_5646 true shit right there, if I were building a street car I’d personally do a centri blower just cause I like the way the power comes on and honestly I enjoy the way they look under hood. Something like a VMP or a Whipple is also always in the back of my head for that instant punch like you mentioned, I think RacerX and many others are chasing times and going for that max effort stuff but I personally don’t wanna be fuckin with my engine/pipes all the time and just wanna start the car and roll tf out when I want to and blowers just make more sense for that.
i actually learned something i roll race ALOT lol never have i tried to set the rpms lower i always just went to the lowest gear possible in the scat im going to try to launch at a lower rpm and see what happens
It's funny seeing a video on this because in the 3.6 Pentastar if you don't have that RPM right and somebody wants to see what punch it has for the first time, you'll go no where. But when you have it right it's like being shot out of a cannon with incredible Throttle Response.
Yes, seems Pentastar wakes up a bit around 4 grand. If you want better response, keep it there - I just found that the sport mode adjusts shift points of the A8 quite nicely.
