I actually got sick from doing the keto diet because of all the fat you have to eat. And then i discovered your channel and followed your advice about focusing on protein and ENERGY BALANCE and I'm happy to report i went from 306lbs to 240lbs in 7 months. Thank you dr. layne you have been an enormous help.

What was your issue with too much fat, if you don't mind me asking out of curiosity? I find it interesting to read others' experiences as it helps to understand the bigger picture. From my understanding, there are quite a few "troubleshooting" issues, one of which when it comes to too much fat is suddenly upping your intake too much and not phasing into it to give your gall bladder enough time to adapt to the acid demands (for one adaptations of several that must take place in the digestive system).
@royalmesh7440

@@jamesm.9285 2 problems that i have encountered with keto 1- too much calculating of your macros to a ridiculous level to "stay in a ketogenic state" 2- i found eating alot of fat rich food to be unpleasant to my stomach as it get me to be nauseous. Keto diet overcomplicates the concept of energy balance. I hope that help 🙏

Exactly. I do prefer dieting with lower carbs simply because the carbs I do love, like pasta, are calorie heavy and low on the nutrients I need. So I'd rather diet on meat, offals etc, because I reach my macros while sticking to lower amounts of calories. I do carb up once a week though. Sticking to 2.5k kcal all week but Saturday where I go 3.5k Thus far it works fine. - 25lbs

@AnotherFancyUser
@AnotherFancyUser 2 года назад
not "Calorie heavy", but "calorie dense". And pasta is not considered that calorie dense, now different is if you put cheese and salsa etc., other calorie dense foods that are refined carbs/sugars that we must avoid are chocolate, ice cream, cookies like oreos, twinkies, that sort of stuff, they have a lot of calories in a less volume. Completely different from carbs coming from salads (vegetables), these are complex carbs, you can eat 600 grams of lets say tomato, lettuce, onion and not reach 50grams of carbs (but you have a lot of fiber) so you stretch your stomach to the point you start signaling leptin. So yeah, that is what I do too in some sense, I eat 1.2kg of salad (the one I described above) divided in 2 meals with 600grams of meat divided in 2, 3 cup of coffees with 200ml of milk each one. With that I don't even get to 120grams of carbs + sugar (milk). But remember, you need carbs to fuel Anaerobic exercises, if you are empty on glycogen and you don't have enough lactic acid, your body will use blood glucose and that is going to be a bad day (Hypoglycemia)

High fat has lowered my blood pressure actually. Don't even think it's the high fat because even if I go high protein and moderate to low fat, my BP stays around the 100ish/70ish range. If I go high carb, it shoots up to 130ish/90ish.

@@phen0mize you’re probably overweight and just seeing acute benefits from a temporary depletion of glycogen and the caloric deficit you’re putting yourself in. Cutting carbs to the point of inducing a calorie deficit always lowers a substantial amount of glycogen quickly and when you’re overweight any bit of weight loss is beneficial for blood pressure and/or blood markers. It’s not that low fat is somehow miraculous. It’s the caloric deficit you’re putting yourself in. If calories were equated you’d see no change.

@@phen0mize well in that case man I dunno. 5 9 160 seems healthy. I’m trying my best to repeat stuff I heard Layne say. He usually equates the benefits of keto or higher fat low carb to the calorie deficit alone and your ability to adhere to the diet and stay in a calorie deficit. A calorie deficit always lowers blood pressure. You could be in a calorie deficit with carbs if you wanted. You may just have a hard time actually staying in a caloric deficit when the diet consists of more carbs because of your inability to adhere to the diet and keep the calories equally low when you eat carbs

I have a Nutrition Question: ppl these days say BCAA's are useless when you can use EAA's and Whey Protein instead. However some ppl can also "main-gain" because their bodyfat % is not too low, they have enough energy stored to build muscle, without having to really bulk. Would BCAA's then still be able to work, in a sense where you activate MTor, but use your body's own stores for body recomposition? Or do you need continuous intake of complete protein to body recomp.

I’d be curious to know what that “exhaust” is. When you metabolize fat, it gets broken into glycerol and fatty acids, which then enter the same series of processes as carbs do (cellular respiration), just at a later point. Is he saying that glycolysis and pyruvate processing (the steps that fatty acids skip) produce some byproduct that later steps in the sequence don’t? Far as I know those steps produce CO2 and convert NAD to NADH, _just like those later steps do_. [My guess is there is none, he’s lying, and he knows it. There’s a video on YT from Wired Magazine’s “Tech Support” series by cult expert Dr. Janja Lalich that gives some insight into leaders and members. She says that cult leaders generally know they’re taking misleading people and taking advantage of them. They just don’t care because they’re narcissists.]
