I agree. Now 75, single and retired, my income is about 2/3 of my work world income. But I made sure to not have any outstanding bills, loans, etc before retiring. I haven't had a credit card for over 35 years, and don't miss them. I pay cash for everything, including my car, an Acura, and my truck, a Silverado. They're not the latest models, but they're in great shape, and I keep them maintained. Insurance is paid in full every 6 months, no cable or Internet, only my phone and electric bills. My needs are minimal, and my wants the same. Because of these habits, I'm able to put $2000+ away every month without strain. A minimalist lifestyle relieves a lot of stress, and gives me confidence that I will be able to adjust to any events that might turn our world upside down,

So I did have something happen to me over the last year that isn’t worst case scenario but a really unfortunate fluke injury to happen if you’re living the nomadic/explorative lifestyle. I felt my toe pop while hiking in Montana and it’s a fracture that hasn’t been healing for a long time. Not the best luck with doctors at first until it finally got diagnosed correctly (time and money spent with little progress at first). So it makes driving very difficult as well as walking. It should take only 2 months to heal, but I relied on driving for my income and lifestyle. So it just hasn’t healed. I am now switching up my lifestyle for at least the next 3 months while I heal which means a new type of job and new type of living situation. It just takes a lot of mental energy to switch and to navigate different social environments especially with income. I would tell my younger self and will now make sure to have a savings even more than I did (had $4000+ but less and less work and medical expenses took more than half of that). And more importantly to take any little injury really seriously and heal it right away and do anything by you can to speak up for yourself and get second opinions when navigating medical system. It takes real money sometimes too to get healed. A better health insurance possibly helps but I have some and you see the same doctor regardless. Wanted to share in case it helps anyone and also I’ll take any advice one has for my situation. I’m getting a job that’s stationary mostly as I need that while my broken toe heals. It’s a decrease in income but that’s fine for 2-3 months and I may get 2 jobs to increase hours. The jobs being local in one place and stationary versus while I’m traveling and I can do any job is the main little challenge but I’ll have one in a week from now.

@@coryshea856 Thanks for sharing. I agree with having a savings! I too do work that depends on me driving and having a car. Even things like car repairs necessitates having a savings. But speaking of your broken toe, have you ever heard of comfrey? It's a plant and people use it and the roots for broken bones and injuries. It's said to be really good with speeding up injuries and it's natural.

I moved into an ancient trailer in a park, kept my old beater car and do not regret this move. Everyone i know accused me of being insane and insulted me. Too bad for them. Dad had no money, so he could not afford 24- hour private care. All you haters out there, go bite yourselves. The "normal" life was never an option for me, coming from extreme poverty. I worked harder than anyone I know but when I started to get ahead illness or injury smacked me down. I kept getting back up. I never had a credit rating, paying cash for everything. I owned half a dozen places but never had a bank mortgage. They didn't want me and I didn't want them. After losing my home and family in a fire I sold that land and bought four gorgeous secluded rolling wooded acres in Northwest Lower Michigan on land contract for two thousand down and two hundred a month for six and a half years. I was not asked a single question about income or credit. I had a 12x14 lofted shed built for 3500. I could have done rent to own for about one fifty a month. I finished the interior with castoff materials from Craigslist and Habitat stores to make an adorable tiny house. I buy jugs of water for drinking and catch rain for my veganic gardens. I have a camp toilet indoors and cook with a hotplate and toaster oven. Underground electrical was 1600. Overhead would have been less. A used wood stove and installation was about five hundred. Pre COVID I got a sauna and shower at a gym in town for five bucks a pop. I now pour water over myself to shower or sponge off. My favorite though? Showering in a thunderstorm. Nothing else feels like that! I do passive laundry, hanging out a few dresses and spraying them with organic soap. In a few days the wind, rain, and sun have done the job for me. It's illegal to live rustically even though it's greener but no one knows or cares. I live very well on my 900 a month soc sec. (It was 550 when I first retired at 62. I'm 70 now.) I drive a 15 yr old Prius. I have great phone and Internet reception. A couple small towns are ten and 20 minutes away. It's 25 to a city with big box stores and a cinema. The big grocery and home goods store there delivers. A 45 minute drive puts me in a bit larger progressive city that is culture rich. There are woods, farms, rivers and lakes at every turn. Among my neighbors are deer, eagles, coyotes and tame chipmunks who sit in my hand to eat treats and get petted. I breathe clean oxygen rich air. I am often moved to tears of gratitude for my beautiful life and home. Think outside the box. The box wasn't designed for your benefit. Stop paying 1500 a month to rent a one bedroom apartment in town. You needn't despair of owning a home of your own. Look for land on Craigslist. Many places allow campers if you are not prepared to build yet. Don't let society dictate how you spend the only earthly life you get. Gratitude is wealth.

I just thought I would throw my story out here. I got married when I was 18 years old. Needless to say I was extremely naive and idealistic about life. I thought I was the wisest sage that ever existed. I began having as many kids as possible right from the get go. I remember thinking at the time that I would be able to use my children to start some kind of revolution and change the world for the better. I naively assumed that my children would turn out just like me, and have the same ideas as me. Well here I am 20 years later with some teenagers, living with some severe chronic health issues... and let me just let you guys know. Life don't work that way. You can't force other people to think like you. Not even your own kids. They will end up doing their own thing no matter what you do or say. You may be able to have some influence, but not nearly as much as you might think. And in our terrifying capitalist culture having kids without money will BREAK YOU financially. There will be no one there when you are suffering or desperate. America just does not care. Not even a little bit. Take a warning from me.

My son graduated with honors from a top college last May. Over the summer he had an epiphany that he's been following this path that was laid out for him and he didn't choose. His university had a coop program where he got college credit for being a paid intern. I remember him telling me that 1st semester of working, "9-5 isn't natural dad." So he decided to take a left turn and chart his own path. We just finished building out a minivan for van life for him. He left this past Monday and is at a music festival right now. He's working a p/t remote computer programming job where he makes his own hours. So proud of him. I personally live in an intentional community. I coined a phrase at my father's wake 9 years ago to describe an experience I have had off and on to varying degrees over the years. We've all experienced it to some degree. I want to piggie back off of Unc and say this... If you're living a simple/van life/stress free life, any "risk" that shows up you don't really get scared by or even deem it a risk because it bothers you so little and/or you can fix it really quickly. I've never worked a 9-5 job, I've been doing self employed video editing, and the biggest risk is if I lose ever client, I effectively make $0/mo and what if it takes me 4 months to find a new client? But I've been doing it for so long that I don't really have that fear anymore AND all the things I've accumulated: my car, access to drive for doordash to make money, high credit card limit, family, etc, etc. means that any thing I fear is just a minor stumble and nothing more than that.

But, there are a few low-cost clinics in my area. There are options for people like us, and we will make it. We just have to take care of ourselves. Exercise, rest, & healthy eating.

thank you for your caring and respectful answer towards people who need to live a different life from yours. On a related topic, sometimes I think people who want to "be their own boss" do not realize that you go from having one boss to having many temporary bosses - they are called clients/customers - all of whom need to be pleased, have ignorant/unreasoable expectations, etc.

Everyone has a boss! Billionaire answers to shareholders. Politician answers to voters. Confucius said: "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”. That includes having no job, if that's your good life! Ultimately you are your own boss, I think Tim understands this at a deep level.

@@ros8986 Noted; I should've said "billionaire CEOs". Billionaires who are free of such obligations are greatly blessed. But there's no reason we shouldn't pursue freedom in our own ways with whatever resources we have!

Another incredible video! I stumbled on your videos a few months ago and let me just say the message you've been conveying to your audience is the exact same life that I've been living since 2014. I had high paying "Corporate" jobs for over 15 years where I was miserable and wasn't cared about. That year I had an epiphany and decided to give up that nonsense as long as I could, hopefully forever! 10 years later and I am still thriving and living life on MY TERMS! I am no longer a slave to the machine. The problem with the people leaving negative commentary and scare tactics on your videos is that they are sheep, "they follow", they don't lead. They are scared and they let FEAR rule their lives. Luckily, the world is changing rapidly and while the sheep are still the majority, many people are beginning to WAKE UP and truly become enlightened. As you said, LIFE = RISK and that's what makes it so interesting and fulfilling. Unfortunately, you'll never get rid of the trolls, they will always be there. However, always remember the haters are only commenting with negativity because they are jealous. I've traveled extensively to all 50 states in my home country America and 73 countries internationally to date. This would not have been possible if I was still under the thumb of Big Brother. In addition, I've tried things I never would have dreamt before. I've started several different businesses, some did okay and some failed. But the true beauty of life is not being on a treadmill living the same mundane existence day in and day out. Your message encourages those already living the life like myself and gives hope and resilience to those who want to embark on a new journey. Keep inspiring!!!

Ive done a shit load of research on near death experiences. That life flashing before you is actually called the life review. It's like a hologram experience and you get to see yourself in certain scenarios you lived , both positive and negative. If you hurt someone you feel their pain in that moment. If you did something positive you get to see the ripple effect of that good deed. It's like that. We're living an avatar. We aren't who we are on earth. We have a soul that comes to planets to experience things you can't in the other dimension to build Karma if you will. It doesn't really matter how may girls you screwed, or how much money you made., Its about how much love you gave.

Life reviews are a release of brain chemicals associated with memory that happens when the body is either near to, or at the moment of death. I have heard certain people refer to it as an "empathy dump"

I am not comfortable in a comfort zone. My husband and I prefer to practice contentment. We like the challenge. Again and again we discover we get comfortable with that contentment and we start looking for other ways to challenge ourselves and simplify. We've been doing this for 15 years. Happier. Healthier. More fearless than ever. 🧡

Well said! But I have 2 reasons why I choose to not bring children of my own into this world. #1: I would be horrified of what this world would do to my child. #2: I am beyond horrified at the thought of what my own child(if I had some) would do to the people in this world. I can also say I know of many examples in this world where I truly believe people behave in such a way that if your not crazy, they are about to get their crazy on to you. And I have seen people get traumatized as a result and not be the same anymore.

I had an employer that I worked for 11 years. When I was ready to leave his exact words to me verbatim "what are you going to do when you fail". This small man never looked at me as a friend or even as employee at the minimum, this individual belived in his mind I was his property because he cut my checks. My response to him without hesitation was "Then I live with the decisions I've made". Leaving was the best decision I ever made mentally physically spiritually
