About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

People who can't see beauty in an edible garden hurt my brain. This yard is so pretty, why wouldn't everyone want this for their home. Such a great idea. She was so happy when you showed up.

You are right. We should not allow citys to make these sorts of policies. Communist Russia starved their population into submission. "Control the foof, control the population. "

My mom had chickens for 3 years in the city, they're banned in our area including any animal intended for food. She gave all the neighbors hush eggs. The police would come and tell her occasionally that her chickens where out, they didn't seem to care that she had them. She did give them to one of my friends this past winter because my 90 year old grandma came to live with her. This year my plan is to add 4 more raised beds and turn my curent raised bed into an herb garden. I'm also downsizing my rabbits but not completely getting rid of them, there poo is one of the best fertilizers because it doesn't need to compost. You just scoop it up and toss it in the garden or yard. I've gotten so much poo in the past 2 years that I've even used it in my yard and my grass has never been as green as it is now..... and rabbits are very tasty, like chicken.

That was awesome!! And I love her adaptation to her space, her climate, the regulations, etc, etc!! Very inspiring!!! Plus I notice she is a fellow jeep girl!! 💜💜 So I have very limited space here and have never bothered planting a garden...this year I am going to try container gardening for the first time, in grow bags. And I am trying some new veggies!! Of course tomatoes -- but I ordered Brad's Atomic Grape Tomatoes!! Peppers sure but how about some beautiful orange Etiuda peppers!! See! I've been watching and listening!!! Not sure I will be successful, but I feel like the fact that I'm doing it, right here, instead of waiting til we have property, is already a win!!!

I stayed and took care of my mom for about 10 years. She was so mad at me for digging up her overgrown shrubs. Her opinion changed as my herbs took off and the garden I started as 8x12 grew over the seasons to 20 x 40. Since I also took care of my grandkids during the summer, they had the chance to see their great grandmother and dig in the garden. She passed a year ago today. I’ve bought her house and though the garden had to be left go last year until things were settled, I’m anxious to get started again. I remember my grandfathers cantaloupe patch. You think you’re growing plants in the Spring, but you harvest memories.

Hey Rick, I love the cinder block idea also, but there are lots of chemicals that they are made with, so I stopped using them, as it leaches poisons into your soil. I still use them to plant flowers & ornamentals, though. Just thought you should know before you started a big plot with food. Peace.

That is a great example of doing what you can, Remember its better to seek forgiveness than to seek permission. I live in New York state, Today is February 26th , I went out and dug 40 lbs of potatoes out of my flower bed. The first thing i did when I bought my new house last year was to take out all the shrub trees and flowers around my house and plant potatoes and onions. Still have onions growing that I missed. This year Ill do more.

Hey Doug and Stacy, here in SouthWestern Ontario and I have rosemary grow year round in an unheated greenhouse. Even survived after a winter wind storm flipped the greenhouse exposing the plant. Didn't think it would after that. That's up to -40 days as well. But just like you we had our rosemary die yearly prior to the greenhouse. So we were excited when it did survive. Still can't wait to try Red onions and possibly hops this year.

That was awesome! I know a young lady doing the same thing in Philadelphia. What I'm going to try new this year is jewel corn.

Great job! Love the idea of highlighting folks who are making it work in their own context and making it their own.

Great video! She's very fortunate to live where she can grow so much for so long! I live in Northern Ohio so my growing season isn't as long and I live in a mobile home community so my options for growing on my "lot" are limited but this year I want to grow some tomatoes, peppers and try beets in containers. Fingers crossed I get some return on my efforts. Thanks guys!
