I remember that there was a pibe (guy) that I’ve seen on Tv who played for Barcelona and you know, he hadn’t debuted yet. Well, we were all sat around the table. I remember that there were Garay, Leo, Fornica, me and I guess two more players. Leo was sat in front of me, next to Garay, and Garay asks him about a Nike soccer cleats. “Hey leo, and this Soccer Cleats?” - Someone who came from the states gave me this as a gift. His answer made me think... “United States??” And it’s funny cause he was in front of me, Does he play in the states?? I thought. Then, I slowly said, “what’s your name?” Leo. “No, no, Your name?” Leo, lionel and he laughed at it. “And your last name?” Messi. Ahhh. So, the other two who were playing for Newell’s too, Garay and Fornica, they looked at me laughing for what was happening. “What?, You don’t know him?” I said no. “Ahhh, ok” and they started laughing at it. I said... (pause) I realized... Hey, you’re the pibito (kid) ahhh, I know haha, what you doin’? That is how we started to have a friendship, we trained a couple of times together, he remembered it, that’s how I sticked to him, he almost die for laughing at it. it’s weird tho.. he probably he got mad but with me, he laughed. After some time, I was called to play for under20 and I met him once again.

Argie here. Since they couldn't be arsed to write decent subtitles, I'll give it a go. I'll write everything he says. No, one day it was- we trained with the NT. I was in the u15 but- oh no I was u16 and he was in the u17. He was training for the u20 because the u20 South American championship was coming, right?. So we were training together, my category and the u17-u20 category. And I remember that I was staying over to sleep and they did so too and I remembered there was a kid I'd seen on TV that played for Barcelona, that people said- alright, (I think he was going to say people said he was good but he cut himself off there) but he hadn't made his debut or anything. So alright we were sitting at the table and all of a sudden, it was Garay - I remember Garay, Leo, Fornica, me and I think 2 more players. And Leo was sitting in front of me and Garay to his side and he asked about some Nike cleats. So he says (Garay) "and those shoes..". (Messi) "No yes" (he means oh yeah) He says, "they brought them for me from the US" right? So I started thinking, the US..? And this guy? ("And this guy" in this context just means he's asking himself who Messi is, what he's up to, where he plays, etc) So I had him in front of me, right? And I didn't know it was Leo. So I said to myself, does he play in the US? So quietly I said, "what's your name?" And he says, "Uum Leo, Leo". (Agüero) "And your name?". (Messi)"No, Lionel". (Agüero)"No, no. Your name". (Messi) "Lionel". And he started laughing. (Agüero) "And your last name?". (Messi) "Messi". (Agüero) "Aaah". So the other two looked at me. They played for Newell's, Garay and Fornica. Fornica says to me, "You don't know him?". No, I said. They were like, ooh wow, and they started laughing so I said- and there I went like "oooh you're this kid that- ooh I know" I said, "I know now, what's up?", I said, "everything good?" (Messi) "Yes" (sounds friendlier than just a cold yes). So there we started and alright there we started to have a friendship and we trained a couple times together. He remembered all that and then I started to have good vibes with him. He shat himself laughing (laughed his ass off). Would have been strange but he could've gotten angry but with me from the first moment he shat himself laughing. So afterwards they called me for the u20 and they put me there to train with Leo. So then we started having really good vibes in the 2005 world cup (u20) and like always in the senior NT.

I went to Beijing to watch Olympics football final in 2008, and I just recently realized how talented that Argentina team was... back then I only knew Messi, but almost everyone else later played for big clubs in Europe
