Spring 1989, in Spain on holiday with my new gf, we had four albums on cassette to keep us happy. Buzzcocks 'Singles, Going Steady.'..Leonard Cohen 'I'm Your Man', Lou Reed 'Transformer' and Bongwater 'Double Bummer Plus'. I'm there again when I hear this...
I was introduced to bong water in the early 90s by my ex-husband while we were still dating. He comes over and tells me enthusiastically that he got the CD he's been trying to get for a long time and it turned out to bongwaters double bummer CD. When I heard the last two songs which turned out to be covers of you don't love me yet by Rocky Erickson and dolphin song by The Monkees. When I first heard you don't love me yet it was like a revelation it's been handed to me it was totally amazing and I've always loved this version the best not making a lot of Rocky Erickson but I don't know bong Waters version it's just like a revelation to me and I've always loved the song
When the depression gets intense, I find some way to be alone and blast Bongwater - "The Big Sell-Out", "Breaking No New Ground" and this one. This is about every relationship I've ever been in.
Hello boys and girls, wanna read something cool mixed with sadness that in the end turned hopeful? Okay, here we go My dearest sweetest friend Beth V. is a nurse whom some years ago was working at a mental health facility in Austin, TX and it turns out that one of the patients was the author of this song: Roky Erickson - singer and songwriter of the legendary '60s band 13th Floor Elevators. Roky experienced mental problems of which much is documented, and due to his mother had him committed and Beth ended up being his nurse, she related that it sadden her seeing him there, his mother may have kept him longer than needed ( this was beth's suspicion) but he was released and he went on play and record music again. Roky died but he left a wonderful musical legacy that inspired many artists.
I haven't heard this in decades. Bongwater was always on the menu in those days. Bongwater, DK, Manowar, Ramones, Misfits, GWAR, all sorts of Motown. We had a helluva playlist in high school.
i always categorize these Magnuson songs as Anthemic Romantic Dystopic - an untapped pop genre that she utilized well. you can always see people singing together at a bar to these tunes like soccer players together on a saturday night.
My boyfriend put this on a mix tape, (it was a cd version of a mixtape) but it always makes me teary eyed. I do enjoy this band, and I will especially love this song forever. Thank you Bongwater.
Just a beautiful gorgeous tune and I had the original where the pyramid meets the eye cd.... and this song was the highlight. In these hardest and saddest of times for me, this brings back so many gorgeous memories and with it, tears.
She was smoking hot on all levels. Check her out at the beginning of the Hunger when Bauhaus is playing too. She's the one Bowie and Catherine Denueve pick up
Twenty-nine years later the mystery is solved. Their cover of Slap Happy's "The Drum" introduced me to Manly Palmer Hall through their use of samples from his lecture "The Spirit of Zen."
THANK YOU, I have been obsessed with this song lately and I needed to figure it out. Their voice is now taped in my memory, and I'm not even a christian.
