@9:33 mark the kid looks terrified! Like he thinks he would actually hit him with the hammer. That stood out to me for sure, but the daughter thing looked to be for comedic purposes
Love the idea of getting your kids involved in martial arts. My dad did the same with me. I'm a third gen martial artist and that always makes me smile and think about my grandfather. Super creativity!! I'll be making the DIY double bag today :)
I'm Mexican. The flip-flops training, we have it since childhood. Mexican mothers regular disciplinary procedures: La Chancla. You could have several chanclazos if you misbehave.
Mike is genuinely one of the most genuine guys on RU-vid. Solid instructor and elite educator, every video is no BS and just a man demonstrating his deep understanding of Mixed Martial Arts. All Love bro, thank you for everything you’ve helped me loads. Was wondering if you could do a shadow boxing video as a follow up to this? Been training at home due to covid
Hands down the best home workout routine training video. Content, knowledge, different messages, and genuine authenticity in delivering it all. The bond and interaction with your son on screen is beautiful and admirsblr. Very natural and genuine onscreen for the camera. I run a community youth MMA academy and gym. It is so rare to find a similar father-son relationship to yours in many of the families today.
This is fatherhood. I wish I had one of these. (Little sweat coming out of my eyes...). But I will give something like that to my future children and family.
My friend introduced me to some great DIY pad ideas a many years back. For a single strike focus pad a phone book wrapped with duct tape makes a solid target. Leave an opening at the top so you can get your fingers in to hold on to it. It has a great feel, and good audible feedback if you hit it right or not. Another option is old fabric (our preference is old jeans cut down into its basic panels with seams and rivets removed) rolled/folded up, and wrapped with duct tape. makes a good elbow pad for a friend to hold. Alternately I've added tabs to one so I can use bungy cords to hold it to a tree. When it is on the tree it has the same feel as a heavy bag, but it lacks the swing of a bag. You have to work around it like you would work around a free standing bag.
I remember my Dad teaching me to box, something I carry with me to this day. The way you are with Maddox, inspirational. Mike you're one of the best. remind of me of my own Dad when I was Maddox's age.
When I started as a teenager many years ago. I'm in my 50's now. We used X-ray film for punches and kicks. My teacher also had a plastic bat with both ends cut off that he would swing at us to practice blocks, parries, and bob and weave. Both items were very useful for the training at that time and even now. We students really enjoyed the cracking sounds of the X-ray film. My Sensei would keep us all on on our toes when swinging the bat because he would be swinging it at one student but then suddenly swing it at any students within his reach. He believed in teaching us to be alert and prepared.
Dude, I made the double-end I'm in love with the damn thing. Also made a tennis ball variation. I gave my wife the old " hey this is a bonding experience and you get cool videos for your social networking" lmao it's crazy but I'm starting to think working out in the yard is more fun than the gym. Other than sparring of course.
I actually agree, I made few stuffs using random stuff. Like old couch cushion and some rope as pads or a wooden pole thing and some bottles as barbell.
Yo icy Mike. This comment is for Maddox. I don't know how old you are, but you hit those pads better than most grown ass men that I've seen who've been training for years. Don't get down on yourself man. I even watched you and thought to myself "damn. That kid has some f***ing hands!" 😂 I hope you stay with the sport because you have a talent at such a young age that I'd say more than 90 percent of grown men don't nor will ever have. The ability to defend yourself. And your loved ones. I just wanted to say that. Don't ever think you suck at hitting. You're only still a child and you have adult level skills. Not only that but you're ONLY going to keep getting better as you go. Love the content icy Mike. I'm a die hard subscriber. I watch every video. 👍🏾
great advices even there are a lot of mexican people that can't buy this equipment even they don't have a garage for workout and you know we have a lot of mexican box talent but they can't pay material or a gym....thanks for all this....greetings from veracruz mexico
Good on you training your boy in the garage. Makes me think of my wrestling days as a youngster also training in the garage with my mates. Ill definitely incorporate that again with my son who is almost two.. Only problem is all the space needed for Al the hobbies... My garage is for my workshop at the moment. Thanks for the inspiration and congratulations on your achievements thus far. Your boy has some nice head movement :) Respect✌️
Thanks 4 everything man I'm all Macgyveriging everything right now I'm getting very creative and shared your vids to almost everyone I know who are itching for some action.
I’ve made most of that stuff from junk lying around the house. I am considering making the hoppy toy a water bag and bought some flexseal spray just in case it leaks but I may end up buying the water boy for $32 on Amazon. I have gloves and mitts but made a Double end bag from an old rubber ball, slip bag from a soft lacrosse ball in a dress sock, hand weights etc it’s endless. Good stuff!
I love this, us dad coaches we tend to improvise and use everything as training equipment I personally think u get more out of everyday household items but great job u remind me of me training my son so great job and thank you for sharing this video
9:23 Preview for the new God of War. Icy Mike and Maddox prepare during quarantine to fight the God of Pestilence. It would be awesome to see you guys as Kratos and Atreus for Halloween. Hopefully for a Ground n' Pound/Catch wrestling tutorial.
Damn your son is a beast, very good Defense as well as his kicks you must be very proud ,my 6 year old and I have been training at home together with our gloves He can just hit the inside of your gloves , we do stuff like jab ,double jab ,jab cross , jab cross hook , jab cross hook kick , or perry my jab then right straight , planning on getting him the bob xl for in the house while we can’t train
@@IcyMikeP O_O Welp he had a proper reason to nope nope nope. If you can dodge a hammer you can dodge a punch. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S1meNEIv_Ac.html
I'm Sudanese. We used to use flip-flops as targets and pads in rural areas gyms for many years because the real ones were not available 20 years ago and although the finantial and economical struggles we've been through we achieved some silver and bronze medals in some national and african championships of Taekwondo.
Wonderful, no-bullshit-accepted advice right here. I've done the couch cushion thing myself before, works pretty well! It was also awesome to see Maddox put in the work, kid's got heart for sure, and the editing with the rotating camera at the end and using the heavy bag as a cutting point to swap the real gear for the DIY gear was really well done. Awesome video, thanks for helping us stay on top of things during these chaotic times!
Big fan brother. What you said about "them walls" has gotten me SUPER FN MOTIVATED sir! I told myself in there that I'd ALWAYS be productive and move towards my goals when I got back to the free world. I've REALLY slipped out of that motivated mode, but this lock down in quarantine and YOUR VIDEOS have been giving me back that animal instinct and motivating the heck outta me! THANK BOTH OF YOU GUYS VERY MUCH SIR!! P.S. Can you recommend any weight training that is good for boxers. I feel like plain old Power Lifting is hurting my actual fight preparation. Can you share any specific weight workouts that are productive with fight training? Thanks Again to both you and junior, and GOD BLESS y'all. Stay safe and HEALTHY!
Hey brother just came across your channel its really awesome. Watching you work with your son in the garage was a beautiful thing. I have to say you remind me so much of my brother who lives in Mesa Arizona. He has worked with his kids forever in the garage. Boxing, Weightlifting, Kick Boxing, Muay Thai pad work, heavy bag, double end bag etc etc. So I hope you do alot more training videos with your son. Osu!
I built your DIY double speed bag. I love it. Volleyball, glass fiber tape, milatery duck tape, two carabiniers and some straps and bungee cord. Half an hour and presto.
Boxers in the Philippines have been doing the punching sandals technique for decades. They also use it for knife defense, flipping the sandal into their hand in 1/10 of a second.
Great video. I've used nothing but a string, a paper clip, and a napkin before just so I could have a target to punch. I also got a cheap foam soccer ball and hanged it to punch. All sorts of cheap options for training equipment if people are creative enough.
