Jhope was just there to be the hype-man on this track, as this was RM and Suga's response to B-free (the dude that said they weren't real rappers in that interview). Jhope wasn't a target so he was just there to hype up and set up his boys.

This cypher goes so hard! A little background: I don’t think it’s ever been officially confirmed, but it’s a widely accepted theory that RM and Suga’s verses are a direct clapback to BFree and the other underground rappers who made fun of them (to their faces no less) during a Hip Hop interview at the end of 2013. That’s why J-Hope’s verse wasn’t as involved, because he wasn’t at the interview. Last I heard, BFree was in jail, so I think it’s safe to say our boys had the last laugh

The fact they each have a separate beat thats completely individual to each and the 3 added together just works. Matches each of their personalities to a t.

Ahh! My fav Cypher! I think Suga took it for flow but RM took it for wordplay. It's a tie for me for those 2. The breath control Suga needed for what you call the machine gun style was incredible and hearing him breathing hard at the end and laughing is such a raw moment.

As I understand it, this was directed at the rapper Bfree and it's 🔥. BTS Suga and RM were invited to this interview, supposedly to talk about their album, but the interviewers, one of whom was Bfree, spent the time tearing BTS down and calling them sell outs for leaving underground rap scene and called them girls for wearing make up when they went on stage. Basically disrespecting them the whole time. BFree while Korean was raised in Hawaii if memory serves, hence Suga's line 'Go back to Hawaii!' Rm did more lyrically, more beat switches and flow and cadence changes, but I believe suga specifically went off on the same beat to show he doesn't even have to change the beat he can still kill it. Great reaction!! This is my favorite of their Cyphers. I believe they wrote these cyphers (especially this second one) in response to an underground Korean rapper BFree. They were all at an interview together and BFree basically told them that they betrayed the hip hop scene because of money and that because they were idols and wore makeup they aren’t true hip hop artists. BTS got the last laugh because now they are the biggest group in the world with millions of Army behind them! 💜 You should watch the live Cypher medley where they performed all 4 cyphers, they are just the best!

BFree the guy who called them names (like girls, wears makeup, not real hip-hop /underground) on radio in front of their faces. Had a listen to him, just to be objective, couldn't even listen past the minute mark. He's from Hawaii 😂😬

Youve watched the clip of the underground rappers calling them girls for choosing idol careers - the cyphers are in response to them n especially to Bfree who was one of the most vocal in insulting RM n Suga. They obliterated him to say the least n army tore him up lol

j-hope raps like he dances, and dances like he raps, an art. Suga raps his heart out letting us to feel his pain and how to get through it. RM raps like he's giving us advice to it's ok to feel low but we will get back up stronger.

This was the cypher that solidified me as an Army! RM going in on this track in both Korean and English was just outstanding. I know people like to give this cypher to Suga because he rapped fast, but he raps fast on a lot of songs and to me his standout cypher is part three, with J-Hope standing out on part four. Honestly, I feel like the rap line brings people fully into the fandom. If you were on the line about being ARMY, you no longer sway after fully embracing the rap line.

Fabulous reaction Toney!! Before creating BTS Suga and RM were part of the underground rap scene. Then they became BTS. Shortly after BTS's debut Suga and RM attended a live news/interview conference along with several other rappers that had been their friends before BTS. During the conference BFree told Suga and RM that they could no longer consider themselves rappers because they had sold out and joined a Kpop group and now they wear makeup and look like girls. Because RM and Suga were representing BTS they couldn't retaliate. Keep in mind that the interview was a live broadcast and Koreans have a much stronger sense of honor and respect/disrespect then we do. What BFree did was the highest level of disrespect. All the cyphers are BTS's response to all the haters they face when starting out but Cypher 2 is specifically aimed at BFree. Basically what they are saying is that what you look like has nothing to do with your ability to rap and though they are now Kpop they can still rap circles around the schmucks who think that being a rapper is more about looking like a rapper then actually being able to rap. What makes it particularly pleasurable for ARMY is that they really takes the glove off in this piece and smack back and it's the only time they did. JHope wasn't at that conference so he's just the glue of the cypher while Suga and RM release some pent up anger. Fast-forward to today and BTS is the biggest band in the world, Suga, RM, and Hobi all have reputations for being superb rappers and...who's BFree?

My bias is J-hope but RM killed this! So smart! This was targeted at a rapper called B-Free who is from Hawaii hence Suga’s bar. He has since apologized but this is their response to comments and other haters.

I love this cypher!! The ending is just so satisfying :D Suga and RM were both underground rappers before joining BTS and were judged harshly for that decision! All their „friends“ made fun of them calling them „girls“ and saying that they betrayed Hip Hop (which is obviously bullshit). There’s a very famous interview with a Rapper called Bfree where you get to see a little bit of that attitude. It’s safe to say that cypher is about that (for example Bfree is from Hawaii). And even though the appear very confident here, they struggled a lot with this. After all, all these people were their friends and the underground rap scene was their community. Rm expresses a lot of that in his first mixtape. But with a little distance you can confidently say that it definitely wasn’t their loss. Why would you make fun of someone for pushing through their comfort zone. Actual friends support each other!! And look at where they are now :)) and they’re still staying true to themselves and Hip Hop!!

I adore Cypher 2, RM and Suga come far too hard. This is the song that made me love harder style rap in general actually. RM just goes to the max flow and lyric wise but I’m biased for Suga’s passion and capping it off with his savagery and his laughing (I can’t even explain why I like it when he cracks himself up and starts laughing on tracks). The next two are just as good or better as Cypher 2, IMO Cypher 1 is the warmup. Live these are absolutely better BUT a reaction will get you blocked unless you do a stage mix but it’s worth seeing how RM and Suga look doing this live (either watching on your own or a stage mix of several shows that won’t get blocked). I am far too excited to see you react to this.

You don’t need to try to rank them. They all have differences, and I think it is unfair to compare them. It is ok to appreciate them all the same in their differences. Just my opinion. I always thought it was a play on words "wiper" and "viper". Wiping out rappers or more accurately, wiping of these shit rappers of my windshield (they are dirt, he calls them insects in the end of his verse too, they're in his way and he's going places) because 와이퍼 means windshield wiper. And it also sounds like viper in English so it's also him being a poisonous snake (like one bite can kill you). Wouldn't put it past RM to hit like that, man's a genius.

Cypher 2 is a killer ☠🤯

(I'm late, I just found this reaction video.) I don't know if you got the anwer to the "If I'm a dicer, then I dice, I have it all," so I'll try to explain here. I could be wrong. The three homonyms used here are "dicer, 다이스, 다 있어," a mixture of Engish and Korean words that sound alike. But his true genius goes way beyond his bilingual rhyming ability. When you translate this line, it has (at least) double meaing: "If I'm a dicer, then I'll dice/ I am a dice. I have what it takes (I have it all)." What's interesting about this line is in the word "dice (다이스)" that acts both as a noun and verb. First, when put together with dicer, 다이스 becomes a verb to mean, "I'll dice [them]," where "them" could be words or the haters. Second, with "다 있어," 다이스 becomes a noun to mean (1) He is the Dice that inherently contains all possible outcome (talent), and (2) he has all the dice he needs to bring about any combination of winning outcome. Not only is RM referring to himself as a dicer that dices the haters with words, but he is also the dice who has all the numbers (words) necessary to create any combination of rap-art, and the probability is in his favor every time because he himself is the Dice that he rolls. P.S. I forgot to mention that "dicer" and 다 있어 make a perfect rhyme scheme, giving each word a double meaning. It's difficult to explain the perfection these three words make together. It gives me a 'beginning = end' vibe with the perfect embodiment of the core. Needless to say, RM is the reason I'm into BTS.

It made Spin’s list of Top 50 hip hop albums in 2015. Throw Away or Monster are good tracks (of course, Joke, Awakening, and Do you are too), so is Rush with Krizz Kaliko. RM performed his songs in All Force One (some are uploaded on YT).

Love Cypher 2, I love them all, but this one really speaks to the BFree garbage so I love it, maybe the most. I watched that BFree interview when I was first starting to listen to BTS, wasn't Army and wasn't fully into them yet, and I couldn't watch it all, it was just disgusting. It made me so angry, and when I heard the Cyphers after that, the pride in Suga and RM, because they were the ones at the interview, was so strong. The BTS rap line is the best.

Cypher 1 was mostly a response to the underground not feeling Idol rappers are real rappers because they are corporate and can't speak their mind. Cypher 2 continued this vein but was targeted largely at rapper B Free who had publicly humiliated Rap Monster and Suga in front of their peers so those two more so than J Hope had a specific target they wanted to eviscerate.

I love all three rappers -just wait until you go deeper into them! Each is a MASTER. But you’re right that for amazing bars, dazzling multilayered meaning with flow that is unique & new it’s got to be Namjoon/RM. But they are so different. You have to listen to Hope World & Agust D! But Namjoon has so many underrated masterpieces like Change with Wale & Intro: Persona. Suga fans won’t rest until you put Suga on top tho!
