That was Ray Stevens at his best. He has so many hilarious songs. The man was hilarious. He also sang "straight" songs like "Everything is Beautiful", but he is best known for his hilariously comedic songs. If you need a laugh he's worth listening to.
Help Me Make It Through The Night It’s Me Again Margaret The Bricklayer’s Song Used Cars and because the Christmas season is upon us: Santa Claus Is Watching You
The Ballad of Blue Cyclone Part 1 and 2, for all the wrasslin fans out there. And for a straight song, his bluegrass version of "Misty" is off the charts.
I live in PASCAGOULA, Mississippi and I've always loved this song because God can use the littilest things to bring a Church in Revival and it's the best feeling in the whole World. GOD BLESS EVERYONE🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I live a few cities over! Funny how you can watch a video from someone across the pond & find neighbors lol! I pray that God brings the Coast an amazing revival soon & an even bigger awakening where we see thousands of souls saved!! God bless you & all who read this- from a Sister in Christ
In this case, though, it's mass delusion based on a huge misunderstanding. Doubt the "revival" lasted a week... maybe not in all cases, but this one...
Many people don't realize that Ray Stevens is a top notch musician and song writer. But like all us southern boys he loves to have fun. I'm small town southern and 70 years old so I can relate to his fun songs. For instance his song "Sitting Up With The Dead". I remember sitting up with the dead. The last time was at my late uncle's home when he passed away in 1967. Love Ray's work.
Ray Steven's loves people like you reacting to his songs. He's contacted some reactors to thank them for keeping his music alive. He's a sweet and talented man.He has other comedy songs such as, The streak, It's me Martha and Sitting up with the dead. He also sings. My favorite is Everything is beautiful. It just makes me feel good. Thank you ❤
@@astralnomadmy grandma’s name was Margaret, so my grandpa used to mimic that goofy voice at random times to mess with her, and usually got threatened with various objects for it (depended on what was in her hands at the time 😂).
Ray Stevens is a country & pop singer-songwriter & comedian known for his novelty hits such as "Gitarzan", "Ahab The Arab", "Along Came Jones", "The Streak" and others. But he also did a few serious songs such as "Misty" & "Everything Is Beautiful" which he won a Grammy for in 1970. Please check out Home Free's version of this song "Mississippi Squirrel Revival". They do a great animated version that is very funny. Ray Stevens commented that he really liked it.
Yes, Pascagoula, Mississippi is a real place. I have lived here all of my 70 years. We are on the Gulf of Mexico. As far south in Mississippi as you can go. We loved this when it was released. And we all had an opinion about which church he was pointing to.
I used to visit my great grandmother as a child there in the 90's. I remember her being right on the water. And I remember seeing the big ships they were building. Good times!
I, too, grew up in Pascagoula-Moss Point from '55 to '67. I am now 72 yrs old. I remember a school mate named Daniel Steven's telling me about a flying squirrel getting into a revival service at a church out in the Orange Grove community. Ray adjusted and embellished the story to make a song out of it. BUT, the event actually happened.
Ray Stevens is an icon with his takes on American culture. Of course you know Home Free's version, which is comical but doesn't override the original. I love them both for different reasons
This song was released in 1984. Ray Stevens specializes in these comedic songs (try It's Me Again, Margaret) but he also has a beautiful voice when he is singing serious songs like Everything is Beautiful. Thank you for reacting to this song. It was great to hear it again.
I grew up laughing at his songs! "It's Me Again, Margaret", " The Streak", "Guitarzan", "Sitting up With The Dead", " Ahab the Arab" are all hilarious!!
More from Ray Stevens that you will love: "The Haircut Song", "The Streak", "Shriner's Convention", "It's Me Again, Margaret"......and so many more. If you want to enjoy his singing voice, try this one: "Everything Is Beautiful".
Ray Stevens is a comic/music genius. Home Free did a cover of this song not too long ago that is pretty amusing as well. Thanks for the reaction! Please check out more of Ray Stevens.
Ray Steven's is a comedy song writer. Some of his other hits include: "the Streak" -- "It's Me Again Margaret" -- "Sitting Up With the Dead" -- & "Red Hot Chili Cookoff" ! But then everything he does is good. 😂😂😂
I would say that his big hit was either Ahab the Arab or Along Came Jones. Both were released in the early 1960s. My Daddy had an old bank in the shape of a dog that is named Jones after the song.
This is one of Ray Stevens best songs!😅 I love that the name of the church is The First Self Righteousness Church and one of the main characters is Bertha Better than You. Many of us Americans wholeheartedly agree with how funny self depreciating humor is. I myself am quite fluent in dark humor as well.😅 A great next step would be his song The Streak!!!😂
Ray Stevens is a singer/songwriter/comedy legend. He not only did comedy songs like the Mississippi Squirrel Revival but serious songs like Everything is Beautiful and Misty. He has been writing and performing since the early 1960s. I see where others have suggested the hilarious The Streak but also check out Sitting Up with the Dead, Along Came Jones, and I'm My Own Grandpa. Since it is almost Christmas also check out his Santa Claus is Watching You.
@@astralnomad I just watched them and they are way better than Santa is Watching You. Thanks for telling about them. The Annual Christmas Party is like the company I worked for before I retired. People at the corporate office started parting in their offices before the official party began. And I had a few co-workers who said some things they regretted the next day. 😂 Luckily there was a hotel nearby. A lot of people got a room because they were too drunk to drive home.
Home Free’s video is a cartoon version and if you watch carefully the guys are drawn sitting in the pews. Many reactors didn’t catch that. They also added little fun lyrics in the song.
Ray Stevens and Wierd Al are great ones to listen to when you feel depressed, they both put a smile on your face. Great review, glad to see you enjoyed it. Definately brings back memories for me. Blessings.
And a deep cavern it is-the 1st thing by him I can remember is" Ahab The Arab" which came out in 1962, when I was 12, and he is still at it,and just as funny.
Ray Stevens, comedic genius. The Haircut Song, The Pirate song. Blue Cyclone, The Shriner's Convention, the Streak, and many more. You cannot go wrong with one of these songs. My cheeks and my stomach always ache from smiling and laughing.
Anything Ray Stevens came up with was great- and it brings back smiles to hear it again. His songs go back to the 1970's. I used to drive my sister nuts with "It's Me Again Margaret".
I would watch these music videos all the time with my grandfather when I was in primary school. And my mother still remembers when “The Streak” was released in the ‘70s. Ray Stevens is a comic genius that appeals to any age.
"Sitting Up with the Dead" is probably the best song he ever recorded. Of course, many people like "The Streak." Please just check out some more of his stuff. He's great!
Many years ago, Johnny Mathis had a hit with a beautiful ballad "Misty". So, shortly after that, Ray Stevens did his own version of the same song. It was upbeat and country, but really good! You should listen to it.
Ray is the Jeff Foxworthy & Weird Al of his day. He was launched into the spotlight w/ his song "The Streak" though he had other hits before and since. Great storyteller/song writer & comedian.😂😂😂
I think I first heard Ray Stevens on the radio back in the early 70s. The song that made him popular was The Streak. Another of my favorites is Ahab the Arab. Pure fall down on your butt laughter!
I grew up visiting family in Pascagoula, MS and was living in Alaska when this song came out. A lot of people were offended by this song mostly older people but I loved it and could just see a child doing something like this. I am now one of the older generation and still love this song. Thanks I enjoyed watching this.
This, Shriner’s Convention and It’s Me, Margaret will be some of my favorite Ray Stevens songs. The way he moves the words around and make it relatable.
I love Ray Stevens. Now you’ve checked out this version you should check out Home Free’s version its equally funny. You should also check out more of Rays songs
What can I say, Ray Stevens. Yeah, look him up if you love to laugh. He's been doing this since about 1972. No joke. He still does 2 shows a day. The man is unstoppable.
Ray Stevens is mostly known for his incredibly funny and comedic songs, but he also has some absolutely beautiful, serious songs as well, i.e., Everything is Beautiful and Misty to name two.
Ray Stevens is a fantastic piano player, a great writer, and a singer of songs such as Misty and had the first cut of Sunday Morning Coming Down that I heard. A comic genius and an all-around talent and star of Country Music.
I've been a Ray Stevens fan my entire life. I even have his autograph. I'm 41 years old, and I always love listening to all his songs. He has so many funny songs and many serious and heartfelt songs as well. You really need to react to more of his songs
Ray Stevens is awesome!!! All of his songs are great but a couple of my favorites, are Dudley Do-Right and The Day I Tried To Teach Charlene Mackenzie How To Drive. You will love both of these. Have a great day.
I grew up through the 70s listening to Ray Stevens and he had so many funny songs. I think my favorite was the streak but he did have a song that was very beautiful which was called Everything Is Beautiful. This song talks about people of all skin color, races, hair length and it goes on.
Try his “Sittin’ Up With The Dead”, “I’m My Own Grandpa”, “Gitarzan” or any of his hilarious gems. Ray Stevens has his own RU-vid channel and all of his hits can be found there. He’s still making music!
Ray Stevens is a master at this kind of song / humor! You must react to some of his other songs - there are so many! The part that always gets me is "the first self-righteous church" - hilarious!
Ray is the original artist, but you should also check out Home Free's version. They definitely show off their comedy chops even though the visual part is animated. Great reaction!
Ray Stevens has a pretty large number of crazy fun songs like this! You should do a search and check some of them out! Gitarzan, The Streak and Ahab the Arab are just a few!
