I can attest to these tips. I have kept my hair in twist and tucked for the past 2 years and my hair is almost tail bone length. Leaving my hair alone is the best thing I could have done for my hair.
@@racheltandoh1085 My hair was just above my bra strap. I was wearing wash and go's or had my hair in buns or ponytails. I began to incorporate ayurvedic powders like henna, hibiscus, cassia, and Amla or I use Nupur every 4 weeks. I refresh my hair as needed, with a mixture of fenugreek seeds soaked in aloe vera juice. I wash and DC my hair weekly, seal it with a nice butter, twist it back up and keep my ends tucked away, and leave it alone for the week then repeat. It has worked wonders for me. I hope this is helpful.
@@OJennifer13 I do my hair on Sunday, I don't need to refresh until Wednesday or Thursday. I use very hydrating/moisturizing products and seal with a butter
I have been doing the natural hairstyles (two strand twists) for about 29 months now. But, for the past 9 months I've had my ends tucked with a headwrap. My hair grew 6" since Feb 2020 that's a lot of growth for me. Thanks for all your tips, tricks and suggestions. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL, Tribe Leader 😄
You are my favorite natural hair RU-vidr, and you are making such a difference for women of color. Your promotion of healthy hair and bodies is on point!
God Bless You Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, Only Christ saves Not works, Faith.......
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed on the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16-18
Firstly, thank you for the scripture. The purpose of my response is to edify, not to fight, with that being said, I say this: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James:2:26 There is election, there is faith, and there are works, they all play a role in attaining salvation.
@@charlesbrown8879 yes I agree, i just wanted everyone to know that by faith you are saved first not of your work, then if they want they can study the Bible and know the scriptures.
Every hair video I watch has someone spreading the Gospel and I love it. God bless all those who aren't a shamed to speak the words of the prophets and confess Jesus is Lord. Be blessed 😁. Keep spreading the Gospel to every ear has heard.
@@charlesbrown8879 Thank you for you edit. I also want to add just a little something. We do works because we are saved. We don't do work to be saved 🙃. It's like when Jesus said that we know a tree by the fruits it bears Matthew7:15-20. Someone who has been saved by Christ produces the fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22. But it's not our work who made us enter in heaven. I just felt like the "attaining salvation", you know, in the right place. It sound like you have faith + good deed = salvation = all the religion of the world. We saved first by believing in Jesus-Christ, Mark 16:16, Acts 16:31, Romans 10:9. I think the works come after, through working with Jesus. The choosen disciples were saved because they believed in Jesus and trusted Him till their deaths. And they shown their faith through their works, preaching the Word of God. If we see Faith as trusting the Lord, then you trust the Lord then show your trust by acts. (I think we women we love to say that, " show me you love me " (lol)) So of course, works are important because they testifies our salvation (and our faith James 2:18) but they do not save us. Salvation is not a the payment of a work but a gift of grace. Also let's make a difference between justication and salvation, which are really kinda close in meaning in the Bible 😅 I think that the reason why without work, faith is dead, it's because a tree which is supposed to bear fruit doesn't bear them is as good as a dead tree. If you are saved but still lived in the sin, are you really saved or do you just keep the christian identity? It's important to highlight works because it's a part of our walk after salvation not for salvation. And it's also a way to distinguish real faith (which produces works), from empty/dead faith (who produce none). I hope my point it's clear ^^. Happy to see brothers and sisters. Love you all. God bless you!
Didn’t know till I got some length that my ends were getting dry because I was keeping them out all the time (even with twists). Had to learn that tucking ends away is key to preventing unnecessary dryness, tangles.
I never thought about twist size. I've always had problems with twists because I just got tangles it was terrible. I'm thinking that my twists might have been too small. Good advice there.
I have followed a lot of your tips I wear the two strand twist through the summer, but I corn row and put pin up under my wigs during the winter. My hair has flourished from just Aloe rice water and a few natural oils so happy. How do you feel about corn rows versus two strand twists my hair is no wear near yours but it’s on it’s way past my bra strap, I remember crying about being bald headed. My cousin used to call me my mothers only bald headed child, I was the weave Queen 👑 but no more🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Also, you did all of that in 20 minutes... This is why I’m patient with my hair & seeing such a huge difference in the health of my hair. You’re about overall health & intentional care daily. You worked for what you have, it didn’t happen overnight & diligence is a must with retention. Love how your den’s looking and how it totally reflects you. Much love to you, Baby-girl & Hubby for sharing with us and allowing us into your lives. You’re doing great things, even if you don’t see it.
I loved LOVED this whole video! My hair has changed so much with menopause, but I will not give up! Twists are my life! I’m learning that I need to retwist every other day. I do use the comb badly, so I will learn to finger detail primarily. And I just made my own flaxseed gel- added rosemary oil- to use on my ancestors! Thank you!🙏🏾
THANK YOU. I never thought about the extra tension having extensions would make. It makes so much sense. Thank you for giving us the hard facts! I am going to work on the health of my hair. I was looking at extensions only because I was getting impatient. If I focus this much effort on my hair rather than looking and taking care of extensions ...I would have the beautiful hair I wanted to pay for.
In my case I loved the idea of extensions so I could hide my hair away from my eyes and stop checking it's length so much. Anyway, turns out me and extensive don't mix, my strands are fine
@@nubiankmtwq6333 I put them in myself doing a certain method that I feel did a “shredding” affect on that area & it’s very fine 😩 fortunately I just crossed my 1yr since BC so I’m glad I caught it early on. Thank you so much for the luv & yes ma’am, actively with my beautician getting things back in order while I’m rocking it straight ☺️ I def plan on doing her routine tho once I go back curly
I love watching your videos. This is where I've been going wrong. I've been twisting my hair but I leave it down. It's growing but the retention is far less than it should be due to not keeping it protected. *Aha moment lol. Looking at your videos makes me like, girl get it together! Lol. You're hair is gorgeous and your shape...I'm trying to get. 👏🏾 Keep teaching and inspiring! Displaying light, love and beauty! Stay blesssed!!💜💜💜
I can totally relate to this content, Danielle. So true, re the hair journey and learning your hair . Learning and then loving one's hair is virtually impossible when it's ALWAYS stuck ( no pun intended) under a weave or wig.
Agreed. I got these braids for my 7th anniversary, but I am thee laziest natural. I don't like glue ins sew ins, or synthetic braids anymore. I can't be free with that stuff attached. I have a ton of ayurvedic powders, oils, butters, aloe plants, roots, but I can't seem to do much of nothing during the week cuz I'm pooped after working & cooking dinner for my husband and me. I'll have to resort to 2 French braids and fewer twists like someone else suggested in these comments. So many products but I have to make the time to maintain a regimen. I have about 10 inches of hair at best. I would love for it to be super long. I have put aside all my wigs for the past year or two. I've have two times in the last yr where I steamed and straightened my hair. I'm in no hurry to straighten it again and I've trimmed my fair share of times this year, too.
I wear wigs 90% of the time and I love my hair. I'm 5"5 and my hair is about 4 inches away from my waist. I believe I would have hit the waist length mark but I had a health issue and a major hair loss last year. And I have been natural for 6 years. Everyone loves their hair differently. My hair loves me when I her it be, untouched and unbothered until wash day. I am a super lazy natural so I literally do the minimum to my hair.
I remember as a child my mom would put my sister and I’s hair in twist and mini plats all the time and our hair was so long, now as a person that had Locs for 13yrs this makes so much sense. I recently combed mine out and my hair is so long and curly, I plan on growing it out longer and doing mini twists. Thanks for sharing. More hair to you babes
I really have been wearing twists a lot this winter. I have low density fine strands so for my twists I have to braid it at the roots first and then I twist the rest of my hair shaft. What I noticed is my hair stays moisturized longer even though it’s high porosity. Great tips as usual!
First off, you’re beautiful! Secondly, I’ve been pressing my hair more and I’m becoming more attentive to my ends constantly splitting and I had my first “ah-ha moment” on the importance of eliminating heat and tucking in the ends in a protective style to avoid friction. Will use this advice. Thank you for creating!❤️
My hair constantly lives in flat twists/mini twists combo. Two-strand twists in the back and flat twists in the front. The lower back half I do my twists about half the size of my pinkie because my hair is medium density in that area. Top back half I do about the size of my pinky. Same thing for the flat twists in the front. I normally keep them in for no more than 2-3 weeks. Wash my hair and then do regular flat-twists and keep those in for 2-3 weeks as well. In between weeks I refresh my scalp with rose water and gently massage my scalp in order to reduce excessive matting. I always make sure to keep my roots stretched. I've been doing this routine for the past year and I've maintained more length compared to before especially in the front portion of my hair which normally has a slower growth rate. My hair is currently APL/BSL.
Yup! Cuz I know I came from weaves and let me tell you my hair was so broken off underneath it, but my mindset was hey I’ll just throw a weave over it nobody will see my damage anyway..... had to come out of that ASAP lol
@@IndigenousStrandz11 Same here. For me it’s the outside stressors that contribute to the breakage if I’m not cognizant of it. I see you girl, I’m with you & appreciate your wisdom & guidance.
I have fine hair and two strand twist don't last on my hair. And my ends Nat up and getting to tangles along with my hair. Protective styles for coarse hair is not the same for fine hair the hair has to be managed differently
I can attest to the right size twists. My twists are to my butt. However, I ran into issues when I was lazy and made my twists too big. Even though they weren't tight, the slight pulling of hair to the center of the section for each twist caused breakage. Protecting the ends doesn't mean putting it into tight updos a lot, even if you think it's loose, you're snatching your edges.
Twist size is key!! I remember when I first started protective styling, I used to do mini twist...boy ohhhh boy!! My ends was sooo thin it was ridiculous!! I had to cut them off.
You are STUNNING!!!!!! Your hair is heavenly and thank you for always sharing your knowledge. Question: When wearing 2-strand twists is it always bests to just redo the ones that need moisture, or do you feel that moisture can adequately penetrate while remaining twisted?
I dont know if you'll see this, but me and my girls are arguing. I told them that you could beat Simon Williams, the girl who now holds the guiness world record for largest afro.I honestly think you could beat her
I wear wigs to grow my natural hair out and every 2 weeks I take it down and wash/ mask it and in between that time I also take it down to moisturize. I really appreciate this video and I’m obsessed with your natural beauty inside and out. 💗😭
Yes I totally agree. I use wigs everyday with my hair, but I make sure my hair underneath is cleaned and moisturized. My hair is under my bra strap. It definitely can be done, you just have to know your hair and be knowledgable about what you hair wants.
You are a dream come true for women with Afro hair or for people who love and need to care for our hair types. Thank you for your knowledge x unselfish and giving we are blessed to know you x
Great advice and reminders (for the people in the back 😂)! Thank you for the detail behind each tip! Had a couple of “DUH” moments that made sense when you actually said it.
@@IndigenousStrandz11 Thanks for your reply 👍 Love your videos young lady, and I will compromise, if you can't do a video on Banding as a protective style. Can you please discuss it, how long to keep Banding in, etc. Thanks again, and keep up the good work 👍
I am making my way through all your videos. About 2 years ago my hair started getting dry, then started breaking, now is shredding. It is a medical condition. I am now relearning my hair. It now likes aloe vera juice. It used to hate coconut oil, it likes it a little. It liked castor oil, now it hates it. This video for me is a reminder, to listen to my hair. Even though, I did it before and she is changing all the rules.
I subscribed when you said you need to find the perfect twist size for your hair! You are the first I have heard to say this. I twist my hair in the chunky twist only to have it shrink or to have 2 or 3 of the twist remain flat. ☹
Still working on trying to find the right width for my twists. Never occurred to me that that could be what makes me get little knots. By the way, I like your top! Hope you had a good Thanksgiving and hope you all have a good Christmas as I don't know if you will be putting out another video before then! :-)
One day when my hair gets longer I’ll wear it in twists like you. My hair is like maybe 2 inches long at best right now so for now I keep it in a headwrap with a bonnet underneath at all times! Makes me feel like erykah badu lol 🌿
You can finger roll it with a butter. My hair is right above my bra strap. You can still do it your hair is short. Just use a good product to finger roll it
You're right definitely a learning curve. You can try things if it doesn't work out try something new. I particularly like a thick leave in, oil and then seal with castor oil, my hair loves it and it looks so shiny. Remembered my mum used to use a scalp tonic, started to use that and my scalp loves it. Hair is starting to retain length, my goal is to get to bra strap length.
Yes, please share mum scalp tonic...my scalp has changed & use a acv rinse to keep balance but if Mum used it.... wanna be in the know😊🌹. Thank you for sharing!
Girrrrrl . . . girl! You are sooooo talkin right!! Some of the things you've said I have done, so many times and broke my hair off so bad - - - Did not, did not, absoulutely did not do it properly. So thank you my dear for saying the things you've said. Now, I do head wraps, and braids on my own hair (no extensions). Peace and blessings.
So the twist is a goldilocks effect. Can't be to small or too large but just right. Also this may sound dumb but how often during the week you re-moisturize your hair? This is my daily struggle due to work and errands.
I moisturize about twice a week. Lol the key is to set yourself up for success. I have a bunch of mini travel size bottles and spray bottles around the house: I have some in a box on my nightstand, in the bathroom within reach, my living room, in my purse, car console etc. That way any time I go to the bathroom or go to bed or even step out the products are like staring me in the face like “girl you have 5 mins and the products are right here just do it” After a few months it becomes instinct.
I keep my hair twisted 24/7 and is to my butt. I retwist every 2 weeks. I re-moisten on the off week. I use an ayurvedic tea and aloe juice and spritz it down, apply a runny leave-in conditioner, natural curl gel/cream, heavier cream, then oil. Basically, I repeat my wash day LCO with slight variation. During the week, I'll apply a water based cream to my edges and my trouble crown spot.
Hmmm, I've never thought about the size of twists as a factor. I might need to reevaluate my go to protective style of choice: braids with my own hair. I might have to switch to twists! Valuable information. Thank you!
I cut my hair all 2020 cuz you know, life💀wanted to try something new and learn more about my hair. It’s now 2021 and I cut out all my color and I’m ready to grow, starting with my hair. 2020 was just an experiment 😭
Nice advice.😊 I always retwist or rebraid my hair on my wash days. On vacation,I just get to the ones that are coming out. I have 3c hair and it loosens fast when wet, especially in the very front and back. 8 months is my longest time of mini protective styling and it works for me with months of doing others between to give my hair and head a break.
Do really believe you know what to do to grow hair long?!!! A yes!!! And I am all in to see how this woman can get some hair at this stage and age in my Life!!! Yes some serious and Beautiful hair!!!🥰😍😂does your Mom follow your hair guide lines ? Did she teach you how to grow your hair out? I am now officially in the Tribe! 2 weeks twist!!! This Grown woman is in !!!🥰🤩
I"m so happy I"ve been protecting my hair during quarantine and taking good care of it. I braid ( plait) it up, secure them with satin pillow rollers and put on a slap cap under my headwraps. I have seen SO much length retention it's insane. Now that it's cold, I moisturize and seal my plaits every 3 days. I am not brave enough to wear wigs or weaves because I hear the chemicals can cause alot of issues, I already suffer with seborrheic dermatitis on occasion.
Great tips.❤it. Twist are my favorites under headwraps & wigs. I take care of my hair under these & it's growing nicely. When are ur headwraps coming out? Thanks for sharing as always.❤😎
I had to learn about twists the hard way😭 Left them in for a while and realised that they were so small they tangled with each other And another time, they were so big they matted within the individual twists😭
This video was so informative! I was wondering if can get a hair journey video from you with before and after pictures? I think it would be so inspiring to see. Also, I shaved my hair off a couple of months ago so I can grow it back stronger and healthier. You have inspired me to start wearing hair wraps and even though my hair is short, I have figured out how to incorporate it into my regimen. You give such amazing tips. Stay safe :)
@@nadinepugh9899 Hey girl! I hope that all is well! So I also wanted to experiment with diy products and rely on just natural ingredients or herbs so I've just been using that on my hair. I am pretty impressed with my results. I honestly didn't start using diy shampoos until about 1 month into growing out my hair because I just wanted my hair to do it's own thing. I honestly have yet to condition my hair, and my hair is actually growing without it (like indigenous strandz points out, it almost makes you wonder if you even need conditioners or deep conditioners. I'm wondering how long I can even go without a protein treatment even though it's so pushed in the natural hair community). As per wash day, I'm going to wash my hair today, but it really depends tbh (just kind of monitor your hair I would say). Like while I was bald, I only did water only washing. Then I then would shampoo once a week. Now with the length I have no, the front of my hair near my widows peak is slightly above my eyebrows, I went back to biweekly washing (which I used to do before I shaved). Honestly, this just works better with my schedule and because I'm not using heavy products the buildup is a minimum. For styling, I found a way to finesse shea butter has a styling product so I can do finger coils and people love it. I try (not always) to moisturize daily. I use shea butter (some naturals will say this will block your scalp, but I just put it into my hair and whatever oils that are left over, I moisturize the rest into my scalp then use my oil mix). I also wrap my hair at times. I want to by more scarves, but I found this cute little hair bands on Amazon and they can match every outfit basically so I've been using that. Lastly, I am now trying to force myself to wrap my hair at night (I am terrible at this). But I hope to see a difference because prior to shaving my head, I had this really short patch in the middle of my hair and maybe wrapping at night can make a difference. I haven't used any store bought products minus Camille Rose Naturals Honey Hydrate (love this! It's a bit pricey but it works wonders. I bought it because I thought it was all natural but I didn't see the last ingredient, a preservative, until after the fact (but that's okay). I also have this edges gel by Creme of Nature (I wasn't really feeling the flax seed gel on my edges either, but maybe one day can try again. I'm sorry this is long 😭 but that's pretty much my regimen
To also add, I have worn wigs consistently in October and November but I decided to give my hair a break because I wanted to enjoy wearing my hair out more and not hide. Also, I noticed I had like a rash or scratch of some sort and I'm suspecting it's from one of my wigs because it was so tight and I made the mistake of trying to fight through the pain 🙄
@@meinternally girl I can’t stand the feeling if wigs in my head... 🤣🤣 so I’m just trying to wear a scarf or just let it be. It’s cold over here cause I’m in Germany so I’m trying to protect it. All I’m doing for the past two month is washing my hair with ambunu after that I’m spraying on some aloe juice and some olive oil and my chebe butter. Put a plastic cap on for 30 mins and after that I seal with castor oil. 🤷🏾♀️ I also put castor oil on my scalp. I remoisturize whenever my hair needs it with aloe and castor oil/chebe butter. And that’s it. It’s a process. My hair feels not as moisturized as before cause I don’t use any store bought conditioner anymore. So my hair didn’t adjust to the new routine yet. But I’ll keep doing it. It’ll take a couple of month I guess. It feels soft ❤️ but as for styling .. I’m lost. I’m just using that curl sponge 🧽
I've been doing small and medium braids on my natural hair lately and notice minimal tangles and less fallout. I had stopped wearing my hair like that long ago because I thought I looked childish lol now idc 😂
I am going back to two strand twist and braids with my natural hair because I wear loose buns a lot. The problem is no matter how much I moisturize my hair it gets very dry and tangled with loose buns. When I twist and braid my natural hair i never have this problem with dryness. Loose buns grew my hair to bra strap length. But I noticed since its gotten longer. Buns don't work for me anymore. I would make sure my hair was detangled and moisturized before I put it away. But it would come out looking like I never took care of it. So I'm definitely sticking with twist and braids.
