To everyone saying how fast they peel potatoes, how they would've peeled a 50lb bag by the time the water boiled, etc. - This hack is a *LIFESAVER* for those of us with loss of dexterity in our hands for whatever reason (carpal tunnel, neuropathy, arthritis, etc.). If you feel like this isn't for you, keep scrolling! No need to tell the world what a master potato peeler you are and that you come from a long line of traditional potato peeling racers for god's sake! *This is VERY helpful for MANY of us.* Thank you so much to the creator for this hack. Homemade mashed potatoes are making a comeback in my kitchen!!! P.s. about the nutrition on the skin, most of us also know that and there are recipes for which we choose to peel the potato, no need to demonize that either. Just chill people!!!!

People loose sight of the fact that some people with disabilities aren’t able to just peel a potato with a regular peeler! Newsflash people! You are not the only one who cooks! If doing potato salad, roast red potatoes until they're tender, then let them cool over night in the fridge. The skins can be just brushed off. You'll get a better flavor of tater salad that way. Just stick the tip of a knife in each one before roasting, lest they might explode.

My Dad got potatoes with skin because they were cheaper & asked me to just be able to peel it. He often dropped bombs by saying its good for neurogenesis so I did extensive research, consulting with a friend & using all my brains to squish his argument only to find out most of the most fun things are better for neurogenesis than doing any boring new activity or training. Until I was able to do that & watch channels like clean my space & your channel, I left my house in a mess except for the parts of it that would be toxic if I don't clean. I like doing things the easiest way possible because there are better things in life than housework. While maintaining a house is necessary, its not fulfilling. You & clean my space are my favourite home maintenance channels. I'm a 23 yr old man & no one else in my social circle looks at channels like these. It's so detrimental to miss those channels unless you have a superior intellect which I bet no one has. These hacks are so good especially for breastfeeding Mum's as they wake up as zombies & give their essence to fuel the child. Less stress reduces 'zombie factor' thus creating better intimacy.

I use one of the Swiss styled peelers, that you peel items away from you rather than towards and has a triangle piece on the side to quickly take out any eyes. You can peel a potato as shown in 10-15 secs. Choose a better peeler and wash one item at the end.
@islandgal500
@islandgal500 2 года назад
The only peelers I have seen have those two-sided blades where you can choose to peel away or towards you, or for right or left handed users. I just flick away from the mid-point to tip and then turn around the potato to peel the other half the same way. My Mom never switched from the paring knife and I always thought she peeled too much potato away even though she didn't waste much.

When I cook potatoes to mash I steam them. A half inch of water boils in a tenth the time as a whole pot takes. I cube the potatoes (1 inch) and they cook much faster than whole, then into a stand mixer with a paddle. The paddle collects the skins, but I like skins so I scrape them off and put them back in. Ten pounds of raw potatoes are ready to eat mashed in 15 minutes.

Potato skins are good! That's where all the nutrients are. Leave them on!!!

Great hint. And, boiling with the skins on keeps more of the nutrients from escaping into the water, along with better flavor saved by boiling with their skins on. I know too many who peel their potatoes and then boil them. Oh well....

I’m surprised that no one knows about scalding. It works for peaches, tomatoes and lots of other fruits and veggies. We do this all the time when canning.

I have used the scalding method for fruits and veggies. I just wouldn't do it with potatoes as I can peel them much faster than this.

So when you say scalding method she wasn’t cooking the potatoes all the way through? How long do you boil them to “scald”?

Thanks so much for the video. Honestly, everyone does things their own way, but it's great to have different ideas on how to do things. And, I don't care if I would have been able to peel them any faster than boiling them. It's nice to have a backup plan just in case I need to do something else while I am waiting for those potatoes to boil. Excellent!!

I never peel a spud, I eat the skins no matter how I cook them. Way more nutrients in the skin than what's inside.

My mom always peeled potatoes for potato salad this way, but she peeled them raw for all other ways of cooking them.
