Just discovered your channel last night. I absolutely love it! I need helping weather stripping our 100 year old windows. Previous owners have caulked them shut. I was thinking of kerf pile on the sides and kerf tubing on top/bottom. I'm in the Atlanta area. What's your recommendation?
I typically use spring bronze on the sides and the kerf tubing at the meeting rail. Then top and bottom I use the glue in silicone tubing. But that’s not the only way to do it. The kerf pile sounds like a good idea. I e thought about using it several times but haven’t pulled the trigger.
Do you think it would be okay to use Sarco Type M on windows outside? I just learned that Dual Glaze is more appropriate for in situ applications, but I already bought the Type M stuff and used a little. You think it makes that much of a difference? I figure anything is better than Dap 33.
I’ve honestly never used anything but Type M (after having switched from DAP 33). I held on to a bucket of Dual Glaze for years and finally just gave it away. And I’ve glazed everything everywhere, from in the shop to out in the field. The only thing I would suggest, if you happen to be in a wet climate like mine, is to order some zinc powder and sprinkle it in as you knead it up, just as cheap insurance against mold.
The instructions might say wait a couple of weeks, but all the pro shops like mine wait a couple of days for it to skin over and then go straight to paint. No priming just paint.
Now that I don’t actually have an opinion on, as I’ve never used it. From what I’ve heard, those who use it love it, but I’ve never felt the need to veer from using Sarco Type M Multiglaze. Now that I can give you an opinion on.
