That's literally the first thing that goes through my head when there's a shooting, so I must be the absolute worst kind of person. People die every day, but gun rights have a tendency of only dying once.

Mark Sampson 7.62 NATO and 308 Winchester have different case dimensions. The dimensions are very close and a good number of rifles can fire both cartridges, but may perform better with one over the other.

Just about every (further) gun control advocate I talk to seems to think that how gun stores work is you just simply walk into it with cash and come out with any gun of your choice including handguns. The last one I bought was the Shield, and the process to get it is more exhausting than it should be. First of all I had to obtain a CCH, and here, what you have to do is go to your local Sheriff's office, get the forms needed. Then get four of your friends to sign the form, then send it in. After that they get questionnaires and they have to fill them out, notarize them, then mail them. After that in 2-3 weeks you'll get your CCH permit. That only has to be done once(in every 5 years if that provision of the SAFE act takes effect before it's repealed.) Then to actually pick up a pistol you have to take a trip to the gun store, pick out the pistol you want, fill out FFL and background check forms. The clerk calls it in and will get one of three answers depending on the results of the background check; Proceed, Delay, or Deny. Then they'll take your money, give you a receipt, which you have to take to the pistol permit clerk, meaning another road trip, and they'll print the model and serial on the permit, then back to the gun store to pick up your purchase.
Wow. What state is that? I'm guessing somewhere in the northeast? I thought it was bad here in Illinois. You need a "FOID" card to buy any gun (firearms owners identification). You get that by picking up a FOID application from any gun dealer. Fill it out like any other background check. Send it to the Illinois State Police in Springfield with a $10 money order. They have 30 days to send your card or notification of denial. Once you have that, it's a 24hr wait for long guns, and a 3 day wait for pistols. I thought that was bad coming from WV where all u need is a state ID, a 30min background check, and out the door you go with your new gun. What you described sounds like my idea of hell.

How is placing my wellbeing above a criminal wishing to do me harm not valuing humanity? The fact that I am willing to go through the trouble of conceal carrying, training, and all that goes with firearm ownership, to protect my loved ones shows I very much value humanity. Maybe it is you that is only willing to ‘hope for the best’ that doesn’t value humanity.
What separates me is that I am not looking harm others or to take what is not mine. If I'm sitting at home and this guy kicks in my door uninvited (several laws broking by him in that act), ignoring my warnings to not come in, then YES, I have EVERY right (and the law is on my side) to use deadly force to protect myself and my family. The law sets parameters for a civilized society, the criminal has chosen to ignore those parameters. He is responsible for his own consequences.

My friend was shot in the head by a gangbanger with a full auto ak47. He is luckily still alive, and only suffers from seizures sometimes. The firearm was stolen, he was a felon, and it was fully-automatic weapon in the state of California. The can he was in was stolen, filled with drugs, and also unregistered. Glad all those laws kept him from commiting crimes.
A more relevant question is: "when was the last time a mass-shooting victim was found to have a firearm on their person", or "when was the last time an armed civilian was present and did nothing to impede the actions of the mass-shooter or lessen the damage to any degree". When mass-shootings start occuring at shooting ranges, gun clubs, firearm retailers or any other establishment with a high percentage of armed civilians, I'll change my mind about armed civilians being a deterent...
1) "assaults OR murders" lumps two groups together, assaults MASSIVELY outnumber murders, so that helps. 2) Ignore all cases where a bad guy is not killed, (possibly where he's shot and lived too) (depending on which study you use, defensive gun uses only kill or injure the attacker 4-1 percent of the time.) *usually a warning is enough, criminals aren't all suicidal. 3) Count suicides, injuries from negligence, and family member murders together to make the number bigger.

I agree with what you say here. If we enforce the current laws, or even as far as I'm concerned make them stricter. Background checks will slow down straw sales and crooked dealers if the laws are stricter. For instance, if a private owner or dealer sells a gun illegally, by not abiding to the check..and the buyer uses that gun to kill, make the dealer negligent to a degree of the crime committed. If the buyer commits murder, the dealer should be found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Silencers are the legal term and the original term for the device. It's not the most accurate description, but it is 100% correct to refer to what many people call "suppressors" as "silencers." And rifle silencers are not mostly ear protection, they don't make rifles hearing safe at all without further ear protection. What they do is hide flash, prevent dust being kicked up, prevent concussion, and a few other things, but don't shoot a rifle with a silencer without hearing protection.
The crime rates took a huge spike after the gun ban back in the 1990's. Before the gun ban, crime was decreasing. Recently, yes, the crime has been decreasing. BUT, the crime rate is still higher today than it was 20 years ago. The crime rate in the US has been steadily decreasing for decades despite not having a federal gun ban. Yes, asking people on the street a question and then recording their answer has a huge tendency to be flawed. Those number came from a poll from The Telegraph.
When you wake up and pay attention to all those who have openly stated a desire to ban all guns if possible, you'll see these things are very much worth paying attention to. Any further restriction on what I can own is unacceptable. Period.
Considering that the Liberal "Logic" says that the idea of requiring an ID to exercise your right to vote is unconstitutional, equivalent to a "Poll Tax", and "racist", then it should follow that requiring ID, filing of a 4473 form, background check, and in some jurisdictions the additional fees, permits, paperwork, and permissions from some nameless bureaucrat should clearly be a violation of your rights also. The 2nd is the ONLY place in the Constitution where "Shall not be infringed" appears.
Some older generation people call them clips because back in in the early days one used 'stripper clips' to feed cartridges into fixed magazine weapons. It just carried over into the civilian world. My father, who served in Korea, always called them 'clips' even though they were magazines. Yes they are technically a 'magazine' but using 'clip' for some folks is like calling any tissues 'kleenex'. I call them clips and I have been shooting firearms for 50 years. Keep the videos coming

SO when a politician or the press refer to an 'assault rifle' what they are REALLY talking about is a self loading rifle. So in part you are right.
Taking safety as a personal responsibility isn't anarchy. It's a survival mechanism. If you aren't prepared to defend your own life then you aren't prepared to continue living on this planet.
I was tired when I wrote this and left out the "People with a Class 3 license" Which is hard for your average psycho to obtain, and full-auto weapons are RARELY used in these types of shootings, and ones where the full-auto weapon is legally obtained are even rarer.
Enforcing current laws, prosecuting those who attempt to purchase arms while knowing theynare prohibited, improving data reporting on those with known mental illness and simply being personally proactive (ie: not ignoring the insane sociopath, etc, etc) will all have a far greater impact. There are other measures to pursue as well, though convincing those who are anti-gun that ignoring the problem or simply instituting "feel-good measures" won't work continually hampers any real progress.

Because the person who says that obviously doesn't know anything about guns but doesn't mind putting their 2 cents in about how they should be controlled. Magazine= A box that contains ammo that is put into the firearm to feed the ammo, can be removed and replaced. Clip= A strip that holds ammo that is use to quickly reload a firearm then removed, it does no stay in the firearm to feed the ammo.
Anti's concentrate on the bad side of "what if's", rather than acknowledge the massive potential for a positive outcome. The statement many anti's use often, is actually very detrimental to their case; ie: "when was the last time an armed civilain stopped a mass-shooting". Thus implying it never happens. The part they miss, is when an armed civilian is present, it never becomes a mass-shooting, as said civilian stops it before the death toll mounts.
I wouldn't hold my breath for the next generation being less violent than the previous. If you look at the instances of of school violence it is only getting worse. But I'm glad that you've finally conceded the point that until someone figures out a way to fundamentally alter human behavior, a firearm is your BEST defense against becoming a victim of a violent crime. That's all I wanted you to say.

Gun shows and internet sales are already subject to background checks. Ever purchased from Gunbroker or at a show? You are required to perform the same actions as you would in a gun shop. Private sales are the only form of sales not subject to a BGC. This is due to it being impossible to enforce. To enforce such measures, a gun registry will be needed, searches performed to confirm all guns are registered, more searches to assure you have not sold without proper transfer, etc, etc.
your're right the words unalienable are not part of the constitution; however, the declaration of independance says "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." In order to protect these unalienable rights, the right to defend them, by any means necessay is the only manner that will effectively and eternally do so.

I was trained by an instructor who happens to train private security employees, and.... Police officers, including swat teams. Jesus, a CCW permit isn't a Batman license, it's not about being a superhero/commando etc. It's about having the means to potentially save your own life if someone tries to kill you. Nothing else.
