That Millionaire study was a huge motivation to me. My wife is a school teacher and I work in the garbage industry so most people would say we are never going to become millionaires. Don’t believe the lies that people will tell you! My wife and I are millionaires! We didn’t inherit anything, and we made an average of $115k per year. This study is spot on and couldn’t be more accurate. Keep up the great work Dave!

My wife and I have been cashiers in the same grocery store for 25 and 22 years. We make $80k combined. We invest 38% of our income. Our home is paid off as of 2016 and our retirement balance is now $398,000 combined. Neither of us has ever received any inheritance. We just work hard and spend wisely. I took all my 92K (401K) plus my IRA 60K and bought 100% of Tesla stock. 2-1/2 years later I’m at 1.764 million. Research in stocks, and past mistakes in stocks taught me not to listen to Nay Sayers. I’m holding long for at least 6 more years. Tesla will be a trillion dollar company by that time, since there will be no real competition till 2030. Only Chinese EV makers will be competition to Tesla before that time. Tesla and China will dominate the EV sector in the future. Still time to invest in Tesla. The problem is there is no lump sum option and so we can't count this in our net worth . It is very hard to put another 15% in our own investments....because after tithe and pension, 25% of our pay is gone. Ignoring the landmines won't make them disappear. Fact - the "system" heavily favors real estate investors and small business owners over the hard working employee. If you really want financial freedom, you should consider one or both of those paths, at least as a side gig.
@DaveM-FFB
@DaveM-FFB 3 года назад
@@calg7955 No - to the contrary. I'm saying that landlords and small business owners are much more likely to achieve financial freedom than W2 employees who work just as hard. Real estate investors and business owners have unlimited income potential, while employees are limited in exchanging their time for money. Also, tax laws favor landlords and business owners over employees as well.

@@insideoutsideupsidedown2218 There are many ways to be a successful real estate investor. Flip properties, Airbnb, vacation rental, duplex on primary residence, mobile home park, commercial real estate, etc. Some real estate investors did very well during covid, and some didn't. It all depends on demand, and the customer's ability to pay. I had 2 vacation rental properties for several years. I received all payments months in advance, and never had a bounced check.

I want to invest in real estate when I get my mortgage completely paid, but I don't know where to start. It will take me about six years to save 50 grand after my mortgage is gone to pay cash for an auctioned rental property. I do not know anything about the business, but I want the tax write advantages and cash flow from rent.
@DaveM-FFB
@DaveM-FFB 3 года назад
@@insideoutsideupsidedown2218 I'm just saying that every time I hear the profile of a financially free millionaire, they are almost always a small business owner and/or a real estate investor. Although sometimes they are a highly compensated independent contractor (technically a small business owner). Almost never a W2 employee with no "business or side gigs". Tony Robbins says "find people who achieved what you want to achieve, and copy what they did". That's what worked for me.

OR you can do what most millionaires do (including this caller) - accelerate the process with real estate investing and/or small business ownership.

If you can clear your mortgage debt young by not borrowing a bucket load that you will spend 30 years paying off you can definitely build considerable wealth. I know there are a lot of real estate investors who over stretched borrowing house after house and ended up loosing it all when the rent stopped coming in and houses ended up trashed through awful tenants.

Dave Ramsey isn't doing cutting edge research here. There have been plenty of studies with similar findings. I would posit that their EDM book is little more than a rehash of "The Millionaire Next Door" that came out more than 25 years ago (and similar books). Financial and wealth management firms have come to similar conclusions for decades.

@midkort

Here's the interesting thing. If you keep WAITING for millionaire status to become the norm, what happens is that by the time millionaire status becomes the norm, you'll probably be saying this very same thing about the next level up from millionaire status - that cycle never ends. You mention a quarter million as if the money just grows on trees in their backyard. By the way, a high income does not equal high net worth; athletes blow their money and make the news quite often.
