The thing is, no one I know, and even 95% of what I see online, is slagging off the players. Everyone can see Southgate is totally incompetent tactically, and the players are doing exactly as they should, and have to if they want to stay in the team, and following his instructions. We’re totally behind them on the pitch. That doesn’t mean we can’t criticise glaring incompetence once they’re off it.

Honestly… Any team can win any tournament. When we won the Euros in ’92, nobody here in Denmark expected it. The team hadn’t even qualified and were on holiday with their families, when they got the call, that Yugoslavia couldn’t participate because of the war, and therefore Denmark was in. And NOBODY (apart from the Danish coach) believed that we would win. But we did. So all the talk about favourites doesn’t matter. Let the teams play and then take it game by game.

The media and pundits with talk sport pundits worked so hard to get Sterling dropped from the England team and now they got their wish they are complaining at the results. Sorry, but we cannot hold a team to a standard when they are missing their spark, biggest threat to the opposition in tournaments and most reliable tournament player. When they are missing their second highest goal scorer and highest assist provider, and so their biggest and greatest threat to their opponents, or when they are missing their player who almost singlehandedly dragged them to the final after the media said his form was poor and should be dropped, a player of the caliber that makes him the highest scoring winger in Premier League history if you exclude penalties, and has resulted in clones being made of his style of play across the world in an attempt to create wingers with his great variety of weapons and ability to score so many goals as a winger. That is like expecting Argentina to produce the same standard without their spark, biggest threat to the opposition in tournaments and most reliable tournament player that is Messi, or Croatia without Modric, or France without Mbappe, or Portugal without Ronaldo, and so on. What Ronaldo did for the Portugal team in taking them to win a Euro was not as powerful as what Sterling did for the England team in taking them to their first final in over 50 years because even without Ronaldo that Portugal team was a great team and they proved that in winning the final with Ronaldo injured and on the bench. Sterling took a group of players and country that consistently under perform in tournaments to a final, that's how good and important he is in tournament football, not only because of his quality, but because he thrives in the high stake and big pressure games while the rest of the team crumbles and when he thrives he is like a sparks that lifts their levels, gets them motivated and gives them an extra sense of self belief. Why? Because he is relentless, puts fear in the eyes of the opposition which his team mates can feel and he succeeds in his actions just as Messi does for Argentina, Ronaldo for Portugal, Mbappe for France and Modric for Croatia. While the media relentlessly do all they can to attempt to undermine these facts and undermine his stature and achievements, the most recent attempts of which have been through baseless claims Sterling is looking to join West Ham or Crystal Palace, thinking they are clever and no one would see what they are trying to do, all they are doing in these attempts with an objective to influence the public and then the England manager's staff and finally the England manager to be against Sterling being in the England team, is harming England's prospects of winning a tournament. Or shall I say, all they have done in these relentless negative attacks against Sterling is harm England's prospects, as they deprive England and more importantly the Southgate system that needs him, of the player that is so vital to this England team and we are seeing this played out in this tournament, just as we saw it when England could not get further than the quarter finals in the world cup with Sterling left out of the team and on the bench until it was too late. Media talk that what England is missing is a guy that speaks a lot in the dressing room is a sick joke. They know what England is missing and that is the player who was so important in the past by actions on the pitch, not the player who talked most in the dressing room as they try to claim. They miss the player that scored the goals, made the assists and was such a threat he put teams in a panic forcing them to give away penalties. England miss the player that shows up in the right spaces in the box to score, terrorises the opposition with his speed and dribbling and his ability to set off counter attacks as the provider or the runner, and as if that is not enough for the opposition to worry about, he now has added his 2 in 3 successful free kicks this season to his bow, making him a free kick threat to add to their worries. All this was taken out of the England teams prospects and standards when Sterling was not selected. One could say the question is, 'Should we be expecting the same standards in this England team's performance, without their tournament talisman, and most importantly a talisman with the qualities that best ensure relentless attacks are possible in a Southgate system designed to be very hard to score against?' It's not about Foden or TAA. ...But it is about if you play Trent then you need to put players on the pitch who will be runners, and not have Foden, Jude and Kane all coming short in the same narrow area of the pitch. It's about not playing Foden on the left when you've got no left-footed leftback to overlap. And if you don't give pressing instructions against a back 3 before the game, at least try giving those instructions at half time. The performances so far haven't just been lacklustre, they've been completely inept.
