Forty-five minutes north of Los Angeles is a place referred to as the Chinese Beverly Hills. CNNMoney's Vanessa Yurkevich tours the booming town of Arcadia, California.
Aly G I will live there if I was in LA! It’s much bigger, if I am an ARchitect, I will design or buy a house / apartment there in America, oh it’s like Hurstville
Lol i live here n its tru they cant drive for crap and no lie there are accidents every week near my block. 100k cars all scrambled up like twisted hot wheels
it's actually pretty affordable, some people here even just buy property to own it, not to rent it or anything but to rather have the enjoyability of owning a house
William Hinson it actually is because the school district is good, the neighborhood is calm, and even a little house is equivalent to a big house somewhere else.
仇博 no one cares. I don't think anyone in a democratic country wants willingly buy a home in communist country. It's not worth the risk unless you are living there. So, your comment is irrelevant.
Definitely agree on the price, but the quality of the properties in Beverly Hills are much much better. Warren Buffet calls this overvaluation. Almost all rich Chinese person with properties in these cities agreed the quality of the properties in China are inferior. In China, the following order of most overpriced properties: 1) Hong Kong 2) Shen Zhen 3) Shanghai 4) Beijing.
Raghunandan Reddy C Democratic country wrapped in bubble, is of no use. Because once the bubble burst the Castle will crumble. The 2008 housing bubble has shown this. Wait next till the end of the petro-dollar. Better a known enemy than an unknown one. Communist here is better than the unknown Imperialistic Deep State, with its war. Thats why you will always be a third class country & your people always abused. Figures though your actresses can't go & sell their pussies in China. Maybe thats why you angry.
@@9036164689 -- @OldMonk -- You need do your homework first before you make stupid statements like those who are uneducated. For you to make that stupid statement shows your ignorance of the Democratic economy. When a bubble burst, people who saved money have an opportunity to buy. I know plenty of lower middle class Chinese people who did very well during the Financial Crisis in 2008. Over 99% of the people in China will never be able to afford the tier 1 cities for the rest of their lives. The media of both Communist and the Democratic countries spread too much propaganda. Living in a communist country like China is better for many common people and living in a Democratic country is also better for many common people too, depending on their situation. Fact: I lived around the world for many years. Fact: In the history of the USA, every race, other than rich England people, have been discriminated a point in time. Germans, Jews, Irish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korea, Blacks, East Indians, etc have all faced discrimination. I hear a lot of Cantonese and Hong Kong people screaming that the White people would not promote them. Why? Because they never fight for what they deserve. I see plenty of Northern Chinese people, Taiwanese, Chinese Hunan people, Jews, Indians, etc become self-made Billionaires in California but not Cantonese or Hong Kong people. You need to do your homework first before making a statement about being treated like at third class citizen in a Democratic country. It's the same people who never fight for what they want are the same people who would never vote when given the opportunity as well as get involved in their community.
I used to live in Pasadena, about 20 minutes from Arcadia. It was becoming such an issue, that Arcadia residents started putting up signs saying “stop the mansionization of Arcadia”. A lot of the homes will sit empty, whenever they do move into them. The rent in the area is pushing a lot of people out.
40 years ago I was born into a rich white family living in a mansion on Whispering Pines overlooking the city. It was mostly white or jewish. Now, I can't afford to live in California and am moving to Asia... 🤣 "Families are always rising and falling in America." -Hawthorne
You know, the huge mansions they show in the video are just in the foothills area... Most of Arcadia is actually just your average middle-class suburb. But even there, new but smaller mansions are being built and the price is rising like crazy.
Arcadia is actually a tad bit southeast of Beverly Hills. Without traffic, it's about a 20 minute drive. With typical LA traffic, it could be 45+ minutes.
Pretty normal actually. LA is big. It encompasses over a dozen suburbs like Arcadia and Beverly Hills. What they don't mention is that areas like San Marino, Sierra Madre have been expensive for a while. Its where the more discreet wealthy people live lol. Arcadia is getting the attention because it's almost exclusively Chinese.
The title is, "You may not have heard of this Beverly Hills," so when they mention Arcadia they say, "but this ("Beverly Hills" aka Arcadia) is 45 minutes away..." you get the point.
Xplocial OnlineNetworking the guy is trolling it's best to leave the fool but I thought Arabs have more percentages? Maybe to much movies are getting to my head or I might have just stop reading your comment have way, well at least i wish you a great day!
thats so dumb why wait for a greencard? the us gov has programs, if youre investing i think around 500.000$ in a local company they give you a quick pass basically
You're talking about that Jason guy? He probably already has homes in other countries and is just spending his family's money. He likes Arcadia the most so he's content with just waiting for that green card and I'm sure his family has business investments back home and abroad.
Stay as long as you can or make them buy you out so high that they say never mind and leave you alone. My hometown my parents did same thing mom got a lawyer they told her don't sale...make home improvements make the value of the house go up... She took her time they fell back cause she kept having something done to the house making value constantly go up...even put in ground pool lol that was 10 Years ago only her maybe 3 other people house still stand cause they did the samething my mom did others knocked down to put up a prison.
As an Asian living in Asia, 1.5 million dollars isn't really a lot to pay for a house. That's already the average price of prime lots in my city. Houses are truly cheaper in America.
My relatives live in homes this big in china. They love it there and it is just as lavish there. I don’t understand why they would need to come to California because they are just in another Chinese environment. I’m only in the US because my parents wanted me to get a better education in the US.
they're so much jealousy people in the comments... "china-lite" and "embrace the culture instead of surrounding yourself by just chinese people/culture".... these people worked hard and built their own community, yes it looks a bit posh but its what they wanted to build and so they are enjoying their hard work... and what is this embrace this culture?? america doesnt have a culture its a mix of different culture.. hell english does not even belong to America .. it came from England... so stop trying to label America as its own separate culture its all influenced by european way of living that is all...
America doesn't have it's own culture??....what's apple pie, jeans/denim pants, sending a man to the moon, American entertainment i.e. music and movies which dominate the world, basketball, American football, mcdonalds, freedom to bear arms, etc??? those are all American not European are you kidding me gtf out of here with your prolapsed anus
"America doesn't have a culture". Um I guess introducing the world to abolitionism and also to the freedom of speech isn't culture? My mom always says "americans don't have culture". It's sad that you feel that way.
@@dr.lhayes8283 Seriously. Im so tired of people bashing America and yet coming to this country to reap the rewards that our founding fathers fought for that created the CULTURE that so many people from oppressed countries enjoy when they set foot on our soil. What a joke.
Arcadia is northeast of downtown LA (20 miles). 20 miles north of downtown LA on I-5 will take you to Sun Valley, lol. I just had to point the error out.
I went to California last year (vacation) and I went on a tour it featured Beverly Hills but when we were passing the homes idk I expected them to be huge and beautiful but like most of them just were kinda small homes, probably expensive but they kinda looked bland
makes sense the real nice homes are in the hills and/or are really secluded and have really large properties and trees so you can't see the houses from outside the compounds
darkchurchhill yes I mean I could see *some* large homes on the hillside like I think one was Justin Bieber’s old home, I saw Bruno mars old home, and like other people Justin’s was huge but Bruno Mars’s didn’t impress me
As a child growing up in the late 80s early 90s in the SGV it was so nice and very diverse. It’s so sad what it has become so many good business pushed out by Asians not to mention building after building with just Asian writing and absolutely no English under it so you don’t know “what is what” unless you speak that language. Was a beautiful place once upon a time.
**DISCLAIMER:** I don't know everything . As a resident, it aint that bad tbh. Back in the 1950s it was nearly 100% wealthy Caucasian until, the late 80s when Chinese (Cantonese) started fleeing to it. See the British lease on HK was going to expire soon and the citizens of HK wanted another place to go where they would not be forced into the Chinese Communist Government. There were two men that pioneered the growing demand and ease of finding a place to live with freedom. It was only a matter of time when the wealthiest people of HK flooded Arcadia which had the Santa Anita race track to make them feel right at home. What made Arcadia a prime spot for Cantonese? - Great Public School - Surrounding population of Asians (San Gabriel Valley) - Wealth and Desirable Living - Santa Anita Race Track (Horse Racing) - Hong Kong is known for it's horse racing - Immigrating to California is easier than most of the United States
These people aren't the Hong Kongers. These are the corrupt CCP officials and their friends and family building and buying these mansion. The CCP oligarchs who are living off the slave labor of 1 billion migrant workers.
Wtf seriously I live 20 minutes away from Arcadia and the area I live in is NOT Chinese’s it’s full of diverse Asians and Mexicans.Plus the price of my area has dropped because of so many people living here
I'm in the North Shore of Sydney and can pretty much say that anything 2km to 30km (about 1 hour by train) from the Sydney CBD is around 1.5m or more for a 3bedroom house. The houses you see in this CNN video would probably be around 3-5 million easy for something the same size - the funny thing is it seems like the north shore is probably 30-40% of Sydney and the whole thing is $1.5 million or more, there literally is almost no 3 bdr house for less than that - I cannot see an american city with this level of house price
Mixed Berry: I live near Seattle, Washington and the average house in this area is $700,000 dollars. The houses near Microsoft average near $800,000 US Dollars. We are not talking mansions or houses with swimming pools. I have been considering moving to Indian Wells , California and spending $700,000 dollars for a sprawling, one story house with a resort style pool and marble tile floors. The prices vary due to the popularity of the area. It must be nice to live in Australia. I have never been but hope to go there someday. I just came back from the Caribbean. My next trip is France in a few months. Enjoy your day! :-)
If you live in LA and are familiar, you'll know there's actually a lot of neighborhoods with that price range, they don't live in Beverly Hills because a house there is literally ten to one hundred times the price. For 1-3million they can afford a condo in Beverly Hills, a million dollar home isn't rare at all, a three million now where getting somewhere, but yeah a lot of asians there, like the middle easterners and all other immigrants, like branded items to show off, Mercedes BMW, throw a tittle like Asian Beverly Hills, goood marketing for niche town in the outskirts of LA, a lot of outskirts neighborhoods worth a million, this is America specifically California, I mean just try to buy a cheap beach front property, you can't really, everything cost a million plus, bad neighborhoods cost half a million, empty towns cost 250k and anything in the middle of nowhere still over 100k Marketing makes a difference
These are mansions are of great value. People who are moving r smart they can sell this for 5 million. Here in dubai 1.5 million will literally buy u a 2-3 bedroom apartment
Why is it that mansions in the US are selling for 1.5m to 2m and an average home in Sydney is that much. I paid $200,000 for my house in 1998 now it’s worth like 1.5mil, and I swear it happened overnight. Honestly why.
smoke monstress That’s just stereo typical unless you live way out of Sydney, there isn’t anything dangerous other than magpies in September. I mean it could be worse could have school shooter or a crazy gunman living next door that seems more dangerous to me.
When I drive through Arcadia I loath the ugly McMansions that have no aesthetic value. There's beautiful original homes that are torn down and these horrendous homes are sprinkled in. Please hire reputable architects that have a sense for the area.
I live in Dubai and there is a place called Emirates hills just so you can take a land it’s 20 million minim my uncle made a house there for 129million
I live around the area. Without traffic I can get from Arcadia to downtown LA within 15 minutes. It is probably like less than 15 miles away. There is just almost always traffic.
Acadia does have really nice houses but I wouldn't call them mansions. It's up in Sierra Madre and Bradbury where you can find even larger and nicer houses but still can't be compared to what you can find in Bel Air
You may never heard of the crazy robberies in Arcadia. YOU MUST BE CAREFUL CUZ YOU CAN GET ROBBED THERE ANYTIME. Although I like going to Arcadia, arcadia mall. I wouldn’t recommend to move there. You have been warned
Business, man. Plus their great grandparents or parents mustve worked hard to be able to reach that level of class. Actually asian parents are the best. So long as one is filial haha they dont throw you awah just like that when you reach aged 18. Hahah
just because you bought a 3 million dollar house doesn't mean you can't afford a 20 million dollar house. I mean who wants to live in a very big house when there are only few of you
