You are the first person that I've watched that has given a clear explanation of why one would use parrallel nodes rather than serial ones. Thank you so much!
Thank you Keith. Im really pleased with this one and I worked hard to get this tuned how I wanted it - to appeal to all levels, so very much appreciated. Your continued support and kind words noted! All the best, Darren.
Truly Amazing. That's why I continuously look over different explanations of the same thing... what others lacks, some explains brilliantly. This video is gold. A masterclass. Yet so simple, others simply are not meant to be teachers. I'm also in a position to teach other stuff and I'M ALWAYS GOING IN THE SMALLEST TINY DETAILS AND ALWAYS EXPLAIN WHY. I'm so happy I've seen this first before wasting my time with other "tutorials". This is unfairly so underrated.
Thanks Jay. Worked SO hard on this one. I recorded/edited a whole days and binned it - this came out of that smart decision to bin original - start again! - original one felt same as others - wanted to get a bit deeper into and show how I use them too. Appreciated my friend! Not watched yours....might now :))
Darren man , you can explain things in such a way that once a mechanism is understood it's almost impossible to forget it! I'm actually standing at my desk coloring some fashion clips and in the meantime listening to you as a podcast !! Great, just great. THANKS A LOT FOR SHARING!
The difference between a good teacher and a great teacher. I'm new to Resolve and I was avoiding parallel nodes because it seemed confusing. Thanks for this exceptional explanation.
I feel like, now i have entered into a whole new world of DR after almost 2 yrs… Thanks for your time and patience to make such valuable information free to public..!!

This is the best tutorials I've ever seen about Resolve. The length is only 12 minutes but you covered it all, absolutely masterclass. Not even you answer the question about parallel node, you also gave a simple example with the grey solid, 11/10
I watched two of your videos and it tooks me 30 minutes. Now I graded again my footage that I was working on for two days and it tooks me 10 minutes to make my original grade looks like a joke. Thank you Darren, you are a legend.
Ive just announced a paid course actually! I'll be doing a livestream with details on Monday. Sign up to waitlist for the course here. mailchi.mp/online-creative/join-waitlist
Excellent lesson. Also I love the way you zoom in for close-ups of the interface, which makes it very easy to follow what you are doing even on a mobile device! Not only do you have expertise in your work, but have a great gift for explaining that work in an easy-to-understand manner, which is a great skill in itself. Thank you for sharing!

I've been searching for the best colorgrading channel on YT since 2020 and stumbled upon your videos Now. By far the best channel ever. Easy to follow and phenomenal tutorials❤
Appreciated Adam. I worked very hard to get this info good - I actually ditched a whole days worth and started again as wasn't happy first time around. Pleased with this one and its getting good traction, so thank you. You should consider joining my Exclusive email list for free stuff and announcements - bit.ly/2RrjvpN - All the best, Darren
Finally! I’ve watched half a dozen tutorials on the difference between serial and parallel nodes and none of it ever made sense to me… I now finally understand it because of you. Great tutorial. But Darren- how come you don’t have a five minute rock ‘n’ roll introduction and then you have to spend three minutes explaining to us what you’re going to explain. LOL. I love it that you get right to the point… Other peoples tutorials are so bad compared to yours. But my favorite is when they have rock ‘n’ roll music playing in the background so loud that sometimes you can’t even understand what they’re saying. You are a breath of fresh air.
Thank Allen. Maybe the truth is I don't have time to make intros or add music (one more level of editing) - Im making the tutorials that I would want to watch if I was a viewer - every intro I ever watch adds nothing to the experience at all. Appreciate it, thanks Allen - I know you've been on my channel for a while now. Can you believe I started it 1 year NEXT MONDAY.
I don't usually write comments but I have to say that this video really made me understand the use of parallel nodes. it's easy to say that they mix the nodes, but this made really clear when I should mix my nodes. I don't know if i made my point clear but you surely did🤣
I appreciate that! Good to have you on board Alex. You may wish to consider joining my Exclusive email list for free download of my node tree featured in my Slog3 episode, my sky replacement items and other free items coming in the future bit.ly/2RrjvpN
So glad I found this channel. Concepts that I have been scouring the internet for explanations on and never quite been satisfied, you explain so perfectly that I can't believe I was ever confused. Thank you!
You are an awesome teacher. Very few can do this. Not overcomplicating things, yet explains everything that is needed. I hope you make a full course on Davinci resolve. I have spent a few hundred bucks already on some online courses. None of them were as helpful as your free RU-vid videos.
Thank you. You should certainly sign up to my email newsletter. Will be good for you in the future - its free. Link is in the description of all my videos - Thank you BTW! Appreciated.
Appreciated Paul...this was my hardest episode to record....I was determined to explain like no other video had before. Took a few re-writes! Glad it is appreciated.
Wow never before has the use of parallel nodes AND serial nodes been explained so in-depth. Thank you. Understand them so much better. Can’t wait to try this out in the morning. I have subscribed sir. Please continue to enlighten us.
Thanks. In the meanwhile, might be worth you joining my Exclusive email list for free download of my node tree featured in my Slog3 episode, my sky replacement items and other free items coming in the future bit.ly/2RrjvpN
Oh my god!!!! Really!! Did I watch this!!! My life is easy now!!! Thank you soo much. You are awesome!!!! 😇😇 You have put so much effort creating these episodes.. I’m truly moved!
Thank you. Yes I really out a lot into these. This one in particular was redone after recording once to make it better! Thank you Mithun. By far this is the best tutorial that I see here on RU-vid explaining parallel nodes, I´m feel very happy to be subscribed to this channel, thanks Darren

Super great explanation and shows why Resolve continues to amaze me coming from an Electrical Engineering background this is how DSP and signal flows should work and give you full control for serial or parallel so easily is just awesome - thanks for all your wonderful videos!
This is my second comment on this. Your ending example (using the gray screen) drove me to prove, at least for myself, that it is not the nodes that are being equally mixed, but the changes to nodes that are being equally mixed. The incoming RGB becomes ground zero for a parallel tree. An adjustment in one area of a frame on one node becomes the output if that area has not been changed on another node in the same parallel tree, i.e. changes to one area of a frame in two or more nodes results in the effects of those changes being mixed together, but areas changed in only one node become the output. So if you make a primary grade to one node in a parallel tree (as you did your first example), then any secondary grade you make in the other nodes in that tree will be mixed with the primary grade since the primary grade moved the incoming RGB off of ground zero for the whole frame. (If no primary grades have been made in a tree, and if no secondary grades overlap, then the only reason a parallel tree might be preferred over serial nodes would be for organizational purposes, in addition to, or in place of, node nesting. True or False?) It seems to me that a starting point for understanding parallel nodes would be too to play with overlapping secondary exposures before moving on to overlapping colors in a parallel node tree that contains no primary adjustments.
Thank you. I've just come out of a 10 hour grade session so sorry short answers - sounds like you have answered your own question anyway. Good to know Im getting people to start working out the maths of Resolve and not just making pretty pictures. You need to understand this stuff to get best results. All te best, darren.
Makes perfect sense. Especially coming from the Photoshop world. Can see the obvious parallels (pun intended) with editing photos. This video gave me the 'light bulb' moment I needed! Thank you!
Thank you Paul. I worked really hard on this episode. You might want to consider joining my exclusive EMAIL list for free items and future goodness bit.ly/2RrjvpN (non-spammy guaranteed).
Awesome : Great explanation. What a good person you are to share this explanation like this. I am photographer know everything about photoshop and lightroom . But this explanation about resolve and the way of thinking in how to correct moving image is really great. Thanks.
Wow this was SO clear and so helpful!! Best description of serial and parallel nodes. I've been watching multiple other RU-vid videos and it didn't quite click, but this was crystal clear. Thank you!

Very informative material...i just bought Davinci 17 and its not as easy coming from a layer base software...I am eager to start using it. This looks like a game changer and for that reason i Subscribed..thanks

And the million dollar question, what about "layer" instead of parallel and when you should use one over the other? Brilliant explanation on this BTW. Definitely made me go "aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh I see now" lol

Hi Darren. I used to develop my own still photographs decades ago - built my own 35mm long throw enlarger - so I understand what 'dodge and burn' is about. I had no idea it could be done with Resolve so thank you for that as well. Just knowing that something can be done is half the battle. BobUK.
I too studied photography at Art School. Pre-digital era. Hours in darkrooms (still in dark room now!!). Thanks - You should consider joining my Exclusive email list for free stuff and announcements - bit.ly/2RrjvpN - All the best, Darren
