Nodes put back into a different order - not sure what holding the shift and drag and drop does. I do that instinctively by just dragging the node without the shift key. You did present the node tree well for beginners, and a lot of people will benefit from this. So good job.
@@PhillipRPeck It doesn't change the way it applies as far as I can tell. After watching this I thought maybe I had missed some functionality in just dragging the node to the node tree line - but can't see any difference.
Super helpful stuff. Glad you are breaking into segments, and explaining your decisions as you go. Other tutorials from expert types don't have the "beginner mind" in mind...it's all "so you do this here so that goes there which then goes there and then you start a new node for that to go there and then that goes there so we have this...see? great! and voila!"
Glad it was helpful. It's always good to know why things work a certain way so that you can do it yourself afterwards. I don't know how many times I've watched tutorials on certain Fusion processes because I never understand why it works the way it does

Thank you to you, I am always baffled by how sometimes we the viewers of RU-vid have to look at 39 different videos to get a not so complete answer to a question we need the answer to and the answer is never really clear until we find that one video from that one RU-vidr that has the perfect and clear answer we been looking for for days, weeks, and sometimes even months!! Concise & clear, thank you. Only one thing more I would like to know ... best/quickest/easiest way to make/use a duplicate (or more) node so that I may experiment with changes to that node while still retaining my current node setting to fall back on if I do not like any changes.
You can create grade versions: open up the color menu in the top row menu items (while in the color page) and create a new grade version. Then you can cycle through the different grade versions (using the same drop down menu or using the keyboard shortcuts which are shown in the menu) Hope that makes sense
Thanks for showing some applications of the nodes. Most tutorial I found just describe what each kind of nodes do and don't show any application or example in reality

I don't remember if there was a reason I had 2 CSTs on one of the clips. There can be a reason to have multiple CSTs, but that is pretty advanced and not necessary in most cases. I don't think it matters if you put Noise Reduction before or after the CST but you definitely want to have a LUT AFTER the CST. The LUT should be one of the last things in your node tree, but you want to have it activated while you adjust your image before the LUT ... if that makes sense 🤞
You mentioned that order matters when using serial nodes. Whats the best order? Exposure, contrast, saturation? Also, how do you know which settings are best for parallel node use?
Excellent questions, I'm definitely not qualified to give a definitive answer but also the program is so flexible and nuanced that as you work your way through the nodes, you can arrive at similar or the same looks regardless of specific order. However, for things like exposure, contrast, and saturation, it's useful to know that increasing contrast typically increases saturation. So if you put saturation before contrast, then you'll likely further increase saturation in the contrast node. I think I showed a pretty solid use case for parallel nodes in the video, but more generally, I like to use them more as an organizational tool so that I don't overcomplicate a single node. For example, I'll make a stack of parallel nodes for color balance: an overall balance, a highlight balance, and a shadows balance. I also might do something similar for saturation if there are secondaries of specific hues that I want to adjust. Secondaries are a good candidate generally for parallel nodes.

hi, how can i make it so that a node only affects the previous node? example: i am in the color tab. node 1 is film grain and node 2 is blur. i only want to blur the grain, but not the entire video.
Sounds like you'd need to create a mask to only affect the portions of the image that you want. You could try the magic mask or you could create a power window depending how precise you need it to be
The only thing drive me nuts with davinci resolve is masking and effects is not as easy as other applications and in top of that i have a phobia from fusion page
Lots of effects are just drag and drop and adjustments are in the inspector. Which kind of effects do you find difficult? The Fusion page is a bit... confusing, but doable with some tutorial watching and practice
@@SnehithPamarathi I don't think so, check out Cullen Kelly, Waqas Qazi, and Darren Mostyn. I'm pretty sure each of them have tutorials with grades with two CSTs. You might try searching their channels for different phrases; "CST Sandwich" is one I've heard from Qazi. Good luck!
one question, is the node on the fusion tab and the colour tab same or different ?? do they work in a similar fashion or different in both the tabs ??? thanks
The concept of the serial node is pretty much the same in both, but there is a lot more complexity in Fusion with multiple types of inputs for a node and how certain effects or processes need to be plugged in to work correctly. So, I think broadly the concept is the same, but the details of how it works can be quite different
@@PhillipRPeck mmmm and then when i was looking at davinci resolve nodes, i found out nuke that also works in nodes and i came to know that this is also an industry standard software , people shifting from adobe to davinci resolve saying that resolve is the new industry standard and then there’s another industry standard called nuke, i mean, what are we gonna learn or what should one actually learn. Really tired of all of this.
What are you trying to do? If you're trying to get work in VFX or motion graphics, look at job postings and effects houses to see what software they're hiring for and/or using. I wouldn't trust what rando RU-vidrs say about what is industry standard because most of them don't work in any industry besides RU-vid
@@PhillipRPeck I’ve been trying to learn video editing and some vfx needed for video editing. Full fledged vfx not my cup of tea but some vfx is necessary for video editing is what i feel. Initially i only wanted to learn adobe programs like premiere pro, photoshop, after effects but their monthly subs is not feasible for me right now as I’m in the learning stage and not earning so i came to know about resolve which is a one time payment so i downloaded the non studio version which is free and i spent some time on it but nodal concept is a little hard to grasp and therefore the first question of are the nodes same on fusion and colour tab, nuke i just mentioned definitely I’m not gonna get involved into one more software. I’ll try to learn resolve but maybe I’ll invest more time in adobe if i start some earning. Resolve seems too complicated at least at this point . I only chose resolve right now because it is free
@@creatorvoss Gotcha. Resolve might seem complicated but honestly, when it comes to editing, Resolve and Premiere Pro are very, very similar. If you learn to edit in Resolve, you shouldn't have any trouble picking up Premiere or vice versa. The node workflow is a different ballgame for sure. I'd recommend Casey Faris's channel if you want good tutorials on Fusion
