A lot of her review is based on personal issues. They bought the mattress and box spring before buying a bed. Not the smartest way to do it. So this issue was due to their personal decisions, has nothing to do with the mattress. As far as cost, they knew the price when they bought it, and would hope that they looked at and tried the bed out first. For Sleep Number, they bought basically the entry level mattress.....the second lowest priced. And that's fine, but of course, you aren't getting the best. It's like comparing a Chevy to a Cadillac. As far as her claim that most people want the same firmness/softness over 10 years or more, I believe the opposite is true. Over time, most people would love the option to adjust the firmness/softness of a bed. And to be able to raise your head and feet is a wonderful option for certain needs and comfort. Over years, nobody stays the same. Their body changes, aches, pains or other sleep issues are nice to have more control over. With a regular inner-spring mattress, you only get a mattress that is what it is. I purchased a high end inner spring mattress 14 years ago. It's done, and probably 2 or 3 years past done it's useful life, so we recently purchased the I8 Flex Top with required base. We bought the flex top as we did not feel the need to vary our foot level as that would have meant a split king. We did not like the idea of two separate mattresses. I love the idea that over the years we'll be able to adjust it based on our needs, not what the mattress can do or not do. We also understood how the mattress is made, what it can do or not do, and how much it cost. Of course, the best decision is an informed decision, and from this, I don't think the reviewer did that.
You nailed it. I have a sleep number mattress. The store was completely upfront about all the important issues long before the mattress was purchased. This review was excessively repetitive and tainted with some misinformation. I've had my sleep number mattress for 4 years and I still love it.
Also I’m not telling people how to spend their money but you’re correct. They knew the price before buying the mattress and I believe they got buyers remorse. There’s a reason why companies give you a cheaper option, not saying $4000 is cheap but they have higher prices for more features. The mattress being too high is the buyers fault for not measuring the base and mattress on their frame. I got the ile and it’s their 2nd most expensive mattress for $4000. They have sales here and there year round.
Shoot I've got the c2 and that's the lowest of the low and to me it feels great...I don't feel the air chambers and the memory foam is plenty thick enough. Maybe it's bc I weight 160 but to me the c2 is perfect and was only 1100
I own a 10 year old Pillow top C4 and it is STILL amazing. Took me 3 months to get used to it but it is a quality of life improvement I would not do without. Buying an S1 model for my mom soon.
I tried the beds myself. I found if you stay with the Classic Series it feels just like your sleeping on a air mattress and personally I didn't like it. The C4 has a 3 inch top and a 9 inch mattress. I went up to the Performance series with the P6. This has a 5 inch top and 11 inch mattress. This provides much better support and it doesn't feel like an air mattress like the Classic series. It is a lot of money but due to the no interest for 24 months I was able to buy it. The first two weeks I had it, I was not crazy about it. It took a while to find my sleep number. When I thought I did, I ended up changing it again. Once I found my sleep number, I liked it much more. You don't get this cozy snuggling feeling like some nice spring beds with tons of cushion. However you just find you get a good night sleep. Plus the cooling material reduces you perspiring in bed if it's warm. My wife and I like Sleep number 55. It's not too soft and it's not super firm. All in all we are both happy with the bed and liked it more than the bouncy Purple bed or the quick sand Temperpedic that is very heavy. The only one I like by them was the hybrid mattress that had springs and foam. You don't sink in as much on that bed. If I was going to get a bed now I would probably go with a hybrid bed like a Dream Cloud or Casper bed. But my wife and I, my brother, friends and parents all have Sleep by Number and they all love it.
Just purchased our 3rd C4 Sleep Number bc we really like them. First one was a queen size, second we upsized to a king and gave our queen to our daughter, third one we are purchasing for our vacation home. I have bought all of them when on sale and in addition to the sale price they sometimes offer free delivery, which we got this time. In addition, since I am a repeat customer and a Sleep Number Insider (free), I get a little bit discount even if there is not a Sale going on. So this go round we saved $1000 bc of SALE and saved $250 with free delivery and got an additional $50 off with coupon they offered.
Had to shut it off halfway. Her biggest gripe was the price which she knew upfront. It looks like she's just moaning to be able to return it before the 100 day trial expires.
I have a Sleep Number that's 14 yrs old. At about 7 yrs I had to replace the center dividing foam, at a pro-rated cost. Now the sides are bowing out, and need to replace the side foam pieces, at a pro-rated cost. ☹️ However, because of back problems we were replacing mattresses about ever 3-5 years. With the S.N. we only have to adjust the air pressure accordingly as needed. Yes, while I agree it's expensive it has paid off for itself, and helped balance the pain when needed. Standard or memory foam mattresses don't give the adjustment option, and in time as everything does they wear out. 🤔
Our bed was purchased in 1995, yes I said 1995!!!! Have not replaced one thing but did add a 3 inch topper a few years ago and am now ready to replace the topper again. LOVE this bed and will never buy another bed as the salesman promised in 1995 when we bought this bed!!! Best bed in the world!!!!!
People are talking about paying more for the thicker pillow top models. We bought this same model and added our own memory foam gel 4" topper. It's great. And when/if the topper wears out we just get another one, not a whole new bed. The main problem blem I have with our bed is that the mattress slides on the base. Going to add a footboard to help with that.
I got the P5 and the only thing I didn’t like is the top cover. I added a down alternative topper and I use it with a mattress cover. It feels much better for me.
I definitely agree that the mattress is expensive...We went in and tried the C4, P5, I8 and i10 and we found the value beds and the middle level p-series beds just didn’t cut it. We ended up buying the new i8 360, it was very comfortable. With the base ( which we just purchased for familiarity; we have another one at home that we use for our current mattress), in total, we spent about $9,300, but we felt it was worth the investment seeing as though we both are in physical therapy and I suffer from a disorder where I don’t get much sleep at all. I hope you found the right bed that fits your needs! Great review.
I've own my SleepNumber bed for 20 years. (worth the money) I have paid the same amount of money for top quality mattresses that were have was heavy as hell to flip over and rotate. I was wondering if she did you any research but before she bought the bed? Of course, when both bed partners can select their own mattress pressure thats why would there are two separate mattresses. . . therefore a gap. Also, the air mattress can't be supported by bed slats, it needs a flat surface . . . thats common sense. I personally used 3/4" plywood deck. To everyone that is reading my review (as long time owner). It's really a great bed and it has saved my back from doing those frequent mattress rotations.
I noticed that you’re returning the bed because it was expensive, but I’m left wondering if it was comfortable for you or not? I bought a sleep number bed, thinking it will be worth every penny investing in a good nights rest. Instead, it has caused lower back pain and calf soreness for me (no matter the setting). I haven’t slept through a whole night in years without waking up tossing and turning uncomfortably. I consider this bed expensive because it causes lower back issues for me and disrupts my sleep every night.
I'm waiting for mine but didn't go with base wouldn't fit in house queen size. Had to reschedule but afraid of platform bed if it will work ...I hope it does
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to make the review. But it sounds like you liked the bed, and that it was just pricey. So I’m not getting that it’s a bad bed.
Just bought a i8 with flex 2 split top king. Spouse is a school teacher got 20% off purchase saved $1900 . Total cost out the door $8200 also ordered two bed sheets, two pillows and I mattress protector. $170 a month 48 interest free.
Question completely unrelated to the Sleep Number bed. Where did you get your bed frame and side tables???? They are exactly what we are looking for!! TIA!! : )
The thing about Sleep Number beds is that the majority of space within the bed is dedicated to the air chambers. So you lose a lot of valuable space that could be used for foam layers/coils. It doesn’t really justify it’s already high price tag. Sure, as you move up the line, more additional layers of foam are added, but that isn’t enough, and it gets to the point where it’s ridiculously expensive (up to $5,100). I’ve tried the iLE, and there was just- not much pressure relief or cushioning. The iLE is just below the i10, their highest and most expensive bed offered. So if the iLE doesn’t cut it, I doubt the i10 would. I was fortunate enough to get the iLE for the price of the performance series due to it being Labor Day weekend. As mentioned in the video, it’s too expensive for what you get, you’re pretty much getting a cushioned air mattress, with the convenience of it being wrapped in a full standard mattress. Also, because it’s a smart bed, there are many points of failure for the Sleep Number. Whether it’s the pump, the tubes, the air chambers, fabric, anything. Not worth having to deal with the potential problems down the line, not to mention Sleep Number’s warranty degrades over time, like- in 1 year, you’re required to pay a 20% fee for replacement parts, and in 3 years, you pay 40% and in 5 years, you pay 60%. It’s just not worth the trouble. That’s if you’re lucky to not get a defective unit.
Price is pretty comparable when some inner spring mattresses cost $8000. We bought a $3500 Sterns and Foster 8 years ago and that was just for the mattress. I never had back pain until we bought it. Just ordered a P5 king with the base out the door for $3700. 15 year pro rate warranty, free delivery and set up. No regrets with price, I know what I’m paying for and have slept well on sleep numbers in the past.
I think the I 8 is an awesome mattress. Yes you're paying considerably more to go to a brick and mortar store with actual American citizen employees Yes there's a sales commission to the sales person and yes the office manager gets a salary. So yes we're going to pay more for the Mattress. As far as the quality of the mattress of course it's there, as far as the baseOr what we usually call it Box Spring, it's not necessary you could just put a piece of plywood downJust need something to hold the mattress up.But the adjustable baseIt's quite expensive it's almost the same price as the mattress.
I heard from a friend that the air machine that keeps it at the right level of firmness makes a lot of noise is that still the case? I didn’t hear you mention it? Also great review👍🏻
I’ve seen reviews on RU-vid that people that are light sleepers have to turn the adjustment feature off at night so that it won’t turn on and wake them at night.
Thank You Ive had this bed 1 week and Im returning. It is so uncomfortable with back problems no adjustment worked. I woke up with pain all over my body. I will be returning ASAP. I really thought it would work especially with all the reviews. Wrong!!!!
Your very welcome I think with major back surgery it doesnt work it makes it worse. I'm glad I could help. I wake up like someone took a bat and hit my entire body. 🙏👍
I just got an i8 and it is the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on. The c2 and c4 are terrible. Would never recommend them. If you are price conscious then sleep number is not for you. But I don’t believe there is anybody close to sleep number brand
Thank you! I am considering the i8 Split King and looking at the price is a bit eye opening. I am going for the i8 WITH FLEXFIT™ so both feet and head can raise. I am hoping it is worth it.
The fact that you messed-up on what parts to purchase for the bed you would get, is not Sleep Numbers fault. It's messed-up when people review something and call it a "con"...when THEY were the ones who messed-up. We did the same, realized we had slats under the existing mattress we were going to replace, called Sleep number, and just cancelled the base. (Or the "box spring" as you call it). No biggie, they cancelled it, and we ended-up getting a thin 2" inch "bunkie board" to lay over the slats. (Sleep number recommends not having more than 2" inches between slats when laying the mattress on top. And our existing slats were 3 1/2" inches between slats). So we got an $120 bunkie board that was a bit heavy-duty, and had the slats oriented from head to foot (instead of crosswise), and 1 1/2" inches between slats. We both prefer stiffer beds, and so far our C4 mattress is perfect for us. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.
@@ldang0792 No. Nothing had been delivered, so the entire money for the base was refunded. But let me add one thing that we thought was kinda sneaky of them. During the initial purchase, they charged us for the base, and then added $250 in case we decided we didn’t want the bed. The bed return would have been free. But the extra $250 was for the return of the base. In other words, if we returned the bed, they kept $250 to pick-up the base. But If we DIDNT return the bed, they would have kept that extra $250. We thought it was conniving that they didn’t explain this to us. Or maybe it was just the salesperson we dealt with at their store. Bottom line, I found this out when we cancelled the base and got over $600 refunded back to us. But the mattress is sweet, and me and the wifey are super loving it. And if we could pass on advice to friends, we would tell them to save a couple of hundred dollars and just have it shipped to us, and I would construct the mattress myself. There is nothing difficult at all to put the mattress together. And the pumps and app were stupid simple to figure out. (Don’t pay $40 for the remote. Just use the app in your cell phone to make the settings, and view your sleep info). Just my opinion.
Raymond Moreno Jr interesting. I was asking because we got the free shipping for purchasing the mattress and base together and thought if I cancelled the base, they would charge me the shipping fee. They didn’t even offer us an option to set it up ourselves but we didn’t get charged for any set up.
@@ldang0792 Double check. You most probably did get charged for the delivery and setup. (They will add in an extra $250 for the base…in case you didn’t want it and had them come and pick it back up. And if you kept it, they still pocketed that $250. Ask how much it would have cost to ONLY get the mattress delivered. By the way, the mattress itself is super light. Your preteen daughter could probably pick it up by herself. (We have a queen bed). The base is a different story. Bulky, and would take two people to carry upstairs.
By the way, these are just quirks we saw during our purchase, which we were not happy about. And now that I know better, if you only wanted the mattress (sans the base), I would recommend getting it shipped to you, and you can build it yourself. Saves you about $200. But we are super happy with the bed itself. We prefer a stiffer bed, so the C4 cushion was the best for us. I’ve seen people purchase the C4 mattress, and then purchase an aftermarket cushion if they needed more cushioning. Saved themselves some money, and can always replace the extra cushion a few years down the line when it will eventually start to compress. (Which EVERY CUSHION eventually will). Just saying. :)
I too am returning mine they’re going to pick it up tomorrow $199 to pick it up and take it back to the store I don’t get my money back until they take it back to the factory and make sure that it is a good working bed then they will return my money. They had my money 30 days before I even got mine I really don’t like sleep number in any way shape or form. The bed is horrible sometimes it works sometimes it does not it’s like sleeping on an air mattress if you like sleeping on an air mattress that floats you in the water by one and stick a sheet on it save your $1400.
What mattress did u even up buying. I’m in the market and I’m so confused by all these mattresses out there. I have back problems and I tired out the Purple 3 ans 4 but didn’t work for my back. 3 hurts my pressure points and 4 my hips dipped in way too much causing lower back pain.
Good review, and I agree. The beds are okay but far overpriced in my opinion. I don't think their technology is justified at this price point. It's simply overpriced. $5,100 for their high end mattress. Seriously, give me a break, it's no where near worth the price. We'll be going back a hybrid pillow top as it's far more comfortable, in our experience.
I so wanted to watch your review. Unfortunately I couldn’t finish because struggling to hear you over the music sound track. Why oh why do people feel they have to add a sound track of stupid music to compete with?
I paid $7,000 for a Sleep Number bed. After ONLY 3 years use (still paying on the bed), the compressor quit functioning. Now, with the bed YET paid for entirely, I am being charged ONLY $200 for a new compressor (add $!00 for installment). I am told that the cost would have been much more had the compressor been older than 3-years old.
And THIS is the reason I went in another direction. Wasn't super impressed in store, potential points of failure, and reviews of customer service. Hope you got it sorted all out.
Sleep Number has 10 models so it sounds like they bought based on price and not what works for them. With several models there is a bed model for Everyone
I WISH so much that we returned ours... Paid $10k for it and I can't even sleep in it anymore. We are looking for a new one and I have to figure out how to get some of my money back out of this thing.
@@MusicTeachersNet We ended up just giving our to our daughter and buying a new bed right after I posted my last comments. I have been sleeping great ever since. What a HUGE waste of money the Sleep Number beds were for us.... Your milage may vary..
Why is it Sleep Number's fault you bought your bedframe after your purchase? You had 100 nights to return the integrated base/boxspring! How would you know the value isn't worth the price? You didn't even have it 100 Nights.... I've had 2 beds the 1st one 16 yrs. Helped my husband's back immensely!!!! Wayyy worth the value. Now I have the newer model and LOVE it!! The C-4 is the basic model, one of the basic even less expensive mattress too so the value is worth the price!!!💯
Seems the biggest complaint you have is the price, and you knew how much it was when purchased. My thought is price was a problem when you bought it, and all you have done at this point is test drive it at a cost of $400.00. In fairness to the seller you should have never made the purchase.
My spouse's heart flutters ceased as soon as we disconnected the sleep number from wi-fi and unplugged the bed. Weird. THEN we discovered the effects of Electromagnetic Frequencies on the human body the brain and the heart. Something tells me, maybe you dont need to have 'sensitivity' to it. Buyer beware...its very innovative, but what would hooking up wi-fi and and EMF to the human body every night- what does this do to our health today or ...long term? Gotta wonder.
The Warranty stinks, I'e owned a c4 for 5 years and one of the mattress developed a leak, it's costing me 70 dollars to replace, and the longer you own the mattress the more expensive it is to get replacement parts up to the end of the warranty 15-20 years if the mattress fails it could cost up to 98% of the mattress cost to repair! given the price of the mattress they should have free repairs for the duration of the mattress!
I hate "sleep number", nothing but an overpriced hyped up air mattress that leaks. None of the setting feels any different except it fails in comparison to a Beautyrest hybrid like a black or beyond, nothing else can come close.
I was going to buy the p5 mattress today but something wasn't right about it. I came home and saw your review and I am convinced not to buy this mattress and save money elsewhere. Thank you for review
@Curtis Alexander Relax Karen i mean Curtis 😂. I get it you LOVE your bed buddy 😴..I still feel its an overrated mattress and I got Sealy Hybrid silver chill firm last week and I am in love, my OPINION lol
C4 is a poor people’s option. You had no business even looking at the Sleep Number if you couldn’t afford the name brand - you take me as someone who bought it initially for the Instagram clout. It is like if you and your partner would go to a high end steakhouse just for the Facebook check-in and then you two have to order the chicken because the steaks are too expensive and then you complain about the chicken being dry.
I love people who are simple-minded it's so entertaining. We bought the C2 and the queen mattress topper from MyPillow. The combination enhanced the whole characteristics of the bed. Amazing comfort, no sunken feeling and still adjustable. Bought my son same combo everywhere he goes he tells people about his bed. Note: The (FORCED) install techs reversed the hoses. Make sure yours are correct or your bed may suck/blow and you do not know why. However, you're on your own if you are a midget... Bed $1167.56 (with shipping/setup and taxes). Mattress Topper $297.00 (There are cheaper ones but I wanted to throw MyPillow some business I like the dude). Basically, turned a $1000 bed into a $3500.00 bed...
What I wouldn’t do to go back in time. I would gladly pay the $199 or even $1999 in order to return my 7month old junk. I’ve paid $8500 for something I can only put at the curbside for trash pick up.
I don't like my new to me Sleep Number. My friend gave me her 5 year old bed when she bought a new one. I like to spread out and with the Queen bed you have 2 chambers with a hump in-between.
@@Fitomll I think this mattress is comparable to the entry level tempurpedic at 2199 without worrying about a compressor, I sell them if you want to buy one
