This video will help you understand why cholesterol is good for you and you should make sure your body has an ample supply.
High ALT is a sign that there is a problem somewhere in your body. It could be in the Liver for sure, but elevated ALT can also be caused by other things as well. One thing is for sure, any elevation in ALT is a warning sign that should be investigated thoroughly to find & correct the cause.

Dr Berry, I started the Keto diet (actually a diet sounds temporary, I started a lifestyle change) in Sept, 2021 and have since lost 80 lbs. I quit taking Crestor six months ago after watching your video. Before quiting my total cholesterol was 125, my hdl was 27. After 3 months my total was 244, my hdl was 29, 2 weeks ago I had it checked again and my total was 145, my hdl was 37! also my a1c has went from 6.5 to 5.0. insulin was 5.2. my triglycerides went from 195 to 78. Thank you so much for your help.

That's because typically your cholesterol and lipid levels respond to your weight most, maybe around 85% do, as always not everyone. But it is beautiful to see how lipid levels follow your excess weight, just like a thermometer measures temperature

Congratulations. But your HDL is still too low. Few people have your will power and for them statins may still be an important medication. Besides, statins reduce the risk of heart disease in ways other than just lowering cholesterol. I awas a physician assistant who practiced cardiology for 30 years and heart surgery for 5 years before that.

I remember my dad, a cattle rancher and not a doctor, used to call it clairesterol. He always said doctors were just trying to sell medicines. My dad ate tons of beef, venison, bacon. He passed away at 90. By the way, he was 6' 4 , never weighed over 180, and his " clairesterol " numbers were always perfect according to the doctor's parameters.

I think the role of what you eat in developing heart disease is smaller than we have been lead to believe, though still important. Free range beef is healthier than meat from modern grain fed cattle. In addition many people’s genes favor the ability to metabolize fats and cholesterol in a way that is less likely to contribute to the development of heart disease. Those people can eat meat and dairy products with relative impunity. In addition a farming lifestyle with a good deal of physical activity is beneficial for people eating lots of meat and dairy products. Add to that the further benefits if they didn’t smoke. These anecdotes of longevity of people who ate meat, eggs, and butter don’t necessarily prove that such a diet is healthy for everyone.

@@dennissilber287And your speculation that red meat, butter, and eggs are harmful to a significant portion of the population based on genetics is equally without evidence. As it happens, anthropologists and archaeologists have done their homework and tested the remains of both prehistoric and historic skeletons to determine what kind of diet they ate. Prior to agriculture, they ate fatty meat almost exclusively, with a few tubers and berries when game was not plentiful. Their skeletons were tall and robust. After agriculture people started developing the diseases of civilization. Weston Price (1870-1948), a dentist, traveled around the world investigating indigenous peoples. Those that ate their traditional diets were tall, healthy, well-formed, handsome, and had healthy teeth with little to no evidence of tooth decay. Those that had adopted "modern" diets were short, had poor jaw development, suffered from tooth decay, and were generally of poorer health. Biologically, humans are adapted to eat meat, and ruminant animals are our primary prey. Members of the genus Homo, including Homo sapiens sapiens, have been eating meat for at least 2 million years.

My cholesterol six months ago was 220. The dr. put me on Crestor 5 mgs. 2x a week. I had knife sharp pains in my ankle, hip and all my muscles became so tight I could no longer do my daily 30 mins. stretching and 20 mins. cardio walking. My entire thigh seized up. I had to use a cane until I realized it was the Crestor. I stopped it and in 5 days was back to walking, stretching. That stuff kept me up at night too. I felt like I aged 5 years in just a few months. No more cholesterol meds for me..ever again.

I really needed to here this. My endocrinologist this past week was going Crazy over my cholesterol #'s. I've been on keto since April & have lost 15 pnds. And stopped the statins she had me on. Because it was making me feel worse. The fat around the middle part of my stomach & thighs are slowly going down😊 But she wouldn't even listen. Even though I know it's helping my heart. Plus, I have severe fatigue & F. Myalgia. The joint pain has gotten better too. I felt she literally thought I'd have a heart attack or stroke as soon as I left her office. I wished there were more doctor's educated on how cholesterol helps our bodies. Than against it. Thanks Again, Kim 💕

I’ve tried that approach with my various doctors over the years, I’ve come to the conclusion that a medical degree makes doctors so incredibly arrogant that their cognitive bias prevents them from thinking beyond what the drug companies tell them to think. I’m a 56yo male, on keto since 2002, elevated LDL, CIMT of zero, echo stress test normal. Yet my doctors still want me on a statin to “cure” me of this dreaded cholesterol, ROFL
@rond.2862
@rond.2862 2 года назад
I can agree with you 100%. I even printed out a March 2022 article from the New England Journal of Medicine to give to my Primary Care physician to read about statins and she wouldn’t even take it from me. I refuse to take another statin after several causing me to have severe muscle cramps. But no, she and my cardiologist keep pushing them. I’ve NEVER had high cholesterol levels, however…triglyceride levels always elevated and high carb diet in the past. Calcium channel score is terrible (1900), but stress test showed no impairment whatsoever. So for the last year and a half, I’ve modified my diet to Keto. Lost 22 pounds down to 158 lbs (I’m 5’9”). Daily blood sugars are great with continuous glucose monitor, BP 128/80. So..with what Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Nadir Ali (cardiologist in Houston and on RU-vid) say about eliminating sugars in your diet and statins are not the answer, you would think physicians would question conventional thinking about medibolic syndrome. As they say to physicians “by the time you retire, 50% of what you learned in med school will be WRONG”. Go Dr. Ken Berry!!

I lost almost 30 lbs. since mid April since my lab works showed that my triglycerides and LDL were elevated, by switching to the ketogenic diet by watching Dr. Berry’s videos. Normalize my elevated BP and got rid of my joint pains, inflammation and reduced my waistline from 38” to now size 33”, which took me from a .57 to .5 waistline to height ratio. Also, I watched Dr. Fung’s videos integrated intermittent fasting into my lifestyle by understanding the hormonal factors involved in being overweight. Since then my Renpho weighing scale that measures not just my weight but also, other health measurements like, BMI, body fat %, visceral fat, subcutaneous fat, BMR, bone mass, muscle mass, body water %, body water %, free fat body weight, are now back to normal range. My metabolic age is now even younger than my actual age all these according to my Renpho weighing scale. I can’t wait for what my doctor would say next month when I follow up with him. Thanks Dr. Berry for your life changing solution to my metabolic syndrome.

Be prepared your triglycerides may go down but your LDL-C may actually go up. Your doctor is gonna freak out and advise you to change your diet even when all the other bio markers have improved. Some doctors are stubborn like that. With your low waist to height ratio, according to a study by the ADA your LDLs are probably the fluffy ones, so in the context of low carb diet, the elevated LDL-C number is not gonna increase the atherogenic risk.

I was on statin for years. I started experiencing pain. I was feeling like I was 90+ years old. I am in 60’s. I stopped taking the statin and noticed pain went away. I told my doctor who tried to get me to go back on statin. He could not pay me to get back on it.

You were suggested to listen to today. SO glad I did. I'm really not that worried about my high (total a little over 300) - It runs in my family (thanks, dad) but from all the studying I've done, I'm not that worried. You've encouraged me in my thoughts/learning this last year. A little over a year ago I stopped taking the Stattin I'd been on for years. Why? As soon as my doc decided it wasn't low enough (224) and was going to ADD another prescription, I turned on the brakes and stopped. NO! You've even more encouraged me in my decision. THANKS (time now I watch more of your vids.)

Hi Dr. I love the content and wealth of information you put out there for everyone. I’ve been doing the carnivore diet for 3 weeks and I have lost 7lbs and feel fantastic, sleeping better and just overall feel healthy and happy. My biggest thing was giving up all the crap I was eating, sugar, carbs, alcohol, but I’m doing it. I do have a question. I’m a 54 old male that for the most part not over weight by much at all 6’4” 211 lbs but I just received my lab work back and the doctor let me have it because my cholesterol total is 312, LDL Chol Calc is 238 and Non-HDL is 238. I have not really had a history of high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Am I just someone that just can’t do this kind of diet? Should I worry about this? Thanks again.

Hi Dr. Berry, I'm watching this video. This is very alarming to me. Thank you for sharing this. I had a minor heart attack last December. My cardiologist put a stent on the artery in front of my heart. because one of the artery was clogged. The attended doctor while I was in the hospital prescribed me atorvastatin 40 milligrams. When I had my heart attack my ldl was 129. After taking this medication for 2 months my ldl went down to 47. I just had my blood test yesterday. I stopped taking the statin medication because my ldl dropped to 47 reading from 129 in December. Please advise and I will discuss this with my cardiologist soon. I will make an appointment with him soon to tell him that I stopped taking the atorvastatin after I watched your video. Thank you so much. I'm waiting for your response.

I think so many people are concerned about cholesterol numbers because they want to see LONG term results on a persons health who have chosen to ignore the numbers. I can understand their concern. We can see fairly quick all the things that are lowered on Keto, carnivore eating ie…weight, blood sugar, etc but cholesterol numbers often go up. So many of us have heard that high cholesterol numbers are associated with stroke and other heart issues. It’s not hard to see why some people want to know long range results for anything. I’m just saying what I hear so many people say when I am asked about why I eat they way I do. We have been told so many things regarding health and nutrition all our lives. We have to educate ourselves! Thank you Dr. Berry for helping us understand and unravel all of this! I greatly appreciate your videos.

Many doctors have put me on statins but every time I attempt to take them I feel like I have the flu and hurt all over. I have a new primary doc and he freaked out a little and asked if I had a cardiologist. I just looked at him and thought…this relationship just might not work out. He wanted me to try a new statin, called Livalo, with supposed less muscle side effects. Turns out that’s BS.

Thank you Dr Berry. You've been a excellent resource for me. I've been carnivore for about 2 months. No real issues with carb or sugar . My main challenge is working out my protein to fat ratio. Mainly because of constipation. I'm ok with one meal a day. I'm just not to efficient (or not interested in) counting protein and fat numbers. I eat the same thing everyday (one ribeye, 4-5 eggs, a few slices of bacon and maybe an avacodo). I've added celery juice in an attempt to "move things along". But I've also heard a lack of fat could be the culprit. Ultimately, I'm trying to find my sweet spot meal plan so things can move along normally and I can lose more weight. BTW, do you provide coaching?

My primary, has remarked, with every blood work I do, that my cholesterol is high or “a little high”. It frustrates me because, everything else in my blood work, is good. She did mention that genetics may play a part in my cholesterol level. A couple of weeks ago, I had strong pain where my gallbladder is. I went to ER. Some of the staff said it might be my gallbladder. After I did a chest X-ray no one mentioned that I had a broken rib on the right side, where the pain was coming from. I don’t really want to give away any body parts. Not even my gallbladder. I think comments, in an emergency setting, have to be taken with a grain of salt. They were only trying to help. I’m still wondering if it is what I eat. Or is it one of the supplements I take. Do I need to take a supplement to control my cholesterol? Overall, I am taking more supplements and fixing things on my own. Listening to these videos is very helpful. Every month, I am tweaking my supplements. Next month is no different. I am looking to reduce my prednisone intake and I am trying to correct my susceptibility to C-Diff. I am going to concentrate on probiotics. Specifically, using Saccharomyces Boulardii. The doctor suggested this months ago and I did not listen. The C-Diff occurred because I was given an IV of antibiotics while in the ER. I forgot to mention I had a physical weakness to C-Diff. The IV was given to help with cellulitis. It helped me with one thing and set off another thing. It’s not easy trying to figure out how to control my body. There are so many factors that went into this latest episode of poor health.
