Preparation for Aluminium Joinery has become more complicated over the years. In this video we show you how we install aluminium windows.
To be honest, we removed this window, it didn't have a sill tray - after 20 years it showed no sign of moisture damage.
Building standards are more like incremental improvements over the years for an overall higher quality build.

I have watched enough of your videos that I automatically give a thumbs up as soon as they start, and I haven't had to change that once. I have to say that your winters seem pretty nice. I say that after having lived in or worked in damn near every area of Canada. 40C down to -55C. Thanks for sharing your work, stay safe and keep the videos coming!

For me, the ideas in ru-vid.comUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

Hey nice work, was wondering if you had/could do an episode on cutting cladding for head flashings, especially for a reno where new windows are being put into existing openings.

Raise the drywall/plaster board off the floor. It pulls up moisture from the cold concrete

@Tonisuperfly just gives front of window extra support. Especially if it's a wide window . Even with a WANZ bar / support bar . The sill tray will be ontop of wanz bar. Window ontop of sill tray which has about a 6mm upstand. So front of window is floating 6mm with no support and will usually try to sag

Great video! Just wondering if windows installed this way only in Nelson? 😳Our windows in Auckland were installed by installers, that we were unfortunate to hire, in a horribly different way😩 One leaked already! Pity, can't attach the pictures to show.

I would like to know why you pack the side from top to bottom instead of using packers with every fixing? Have you just measured the width and made it tight fit? Thanks

You deserve more than 300k! Also how do you seal those windows? In the US we would tape to the actual window and seal with window foam (closed cell foam insulation in a can)

Hi Scott, love the channel. Question for you, do you nail through you window packers or just below. 10 years I’ve been installing Windows and I don’t nail through packers. Now new Forman at my new job tells me to go back and put a second nail in all reveals to make sure that packer is secured. Any ideas.

How important do you think the drainage is? I make joinery and we treat it like water will be flowing down the sides/inside. Where would that moisture come from and how could it be so much that it flows?

Hey, thanks. No real reason, just the way we did it. In this case we had to put 150mm coach screws through the bracket and into the joist below. There is a double joist under that wall frame. We put the bracket to one side of the frame so we would get into the middle of the joist. Thanks for watching bro!

That cedar will warp and cup in the harsh NZ sun without the nails in the lower edge. Those bronze button head nails are the norm here. Or rather, were the norm and they still often get done that way.

No safety glass when cutting on the saw. and metal of all things .. do you put shims in where you screwed the window frame to the rough opening ?? seems you mate needs to get some safety glasses , you only have one set of eyes. Since the window on the outside does not sit flush to the wall , would there be an air gap between the inside of the window and where you blocked it in on the inside of the frame, and if so do you put expansion foam or foam backing rod in the air gap.???? Or do you just leave it and let the interior window trim deal with it ???
