You NEED To Do these 5 Things Before Sharing your Scratch Game

One way to include an intro, is to have it be no longer than 3 seconds. And even better is if you make it only show up the first time you click the green flag. That is done by having a variable called "seen intro". When green flag clicked, check if the variable is = to 0. If it's 0, then show the intro. After the intro is finished, set the variable to 1. If you click the green flag and "seen" intro is not 0, then just go onto the game. One more thing, make sure to save the project with the variable set to 0, or else it will never show the intro. Doing all that allows you to use an intro, and the player won't get annoyed every time they restart.

For the highscore, DO NOT put the “show variable ☁️highscore” in the “If score > ☁️highscore” because then you only see the highscore if you got the highscore.

I share my projects unfinished and finish them, to build the tension for the finished game.

Most importantly, make it playable. If there is nothing to play or do in the game that isn't mildly interesting or replayable. The game will probably flop.

For the thumbnail you can simply do that : (When 🏴clicked) Put the effect ghost at 100 If you remove the "repeat forever" block, it may increade fps on wear devices

Cool way to make a title for your thumbnail: add the title with no outline, then copy so that you have 2 text in the same spot. Select one of them, add an outline then make it appear behind the text with no outline. It looks very cool but it's weird when you have to change it. Works with sprites too if you want a sticker efect. Sorry for bad explaining, I'm not very good at English

#6 (probably the most important one) use an old project that's been aging in your unshared for months. scratch projects need to be indexed into the system before they're able appear on trending or the search results. projects can be indexed while unshared though, so once you finish your game, download the file and upload it into an unshared project with an old url. check the trending tab and see which project has the highest url to know if you're project has been indexed yet.

your system for thumbnails is better than the one that i used! my system used 4 blocks that you can stack and two events, yours uses 3 stackable blocks and 1 event! Thank you!

Also in scratch, if there isn't a Cloud variable option for your variables, you are NEW SCRATCHER, so wait a month or two and register as a Scratcher Edit: it's only 2-3 weeks to register...

Intros are good, as long as they are skippable. Also, please for the love of god don't overtag it. It's just going to make me hate you more if you tag something that's not even remotely loud. The best advice I can give is don't be afraid to ask for help. For example, I'm a coder and a musician, but my art is literally just circles. On the other hand, I have friends who love art but struggle with code and songs. So they'll teach me how to draw an oval and i'll show them why glide blocks deserve to die.

Actually having a good panzoid intro can't do you any harm if you clearly state how to skip it

This tutorial is pretty nice for newer creators, however for the 1st tip, the show block in the forever loop is useless, it is already shown as default. only hide blocks are not shown as default, so if you wanted it to hide instead you would've had to put that in the loop. also for the 3rd tip, i would prefer the highscore always being hidden or shown, but never toggled. A creative way to show you got a highscore would be a text popping up when you die saying "A NEW HIGHSCORE!", which could just be made by duplicating the end screen costume and adding the text, with it switching to the first costume when green flag is clicked, as it has no default, and it only switched to the last costume it was at when the game was last saved, and when the score = highscore, it will switch to the second costume, and it shows when you lost. Also for the 4th tip, you CAN use an intro, as long as its short, or if its skippable, by pressing a button to skip. It should also be known that you can skip the intro, by including some text at a corner. Also, in the 2nd tip you explained to have a lot of tags, but in the 5th tip, you explained to NOT have tags. Personally i would just use one or two tags that fit, as one time i worked on a really big project and put a lot of tags, but then that led to less views than my other projects. Definitely would recommend this tutorial to newer creators, but does need some fixing. overall, good tutorial, nice job.

One of the most annoying things about Scratch, is when you update your game, each individual change is live. When you make changes, there should be an “Update” Button that applies all changes that you’ve made to the Public Version. Basically, you go into your Project, make changes, press “Update”, then done. When you exit the Project before pressing update, you will still have the update option the next time you go on it, it will save the changes. When you go onto your Project, it won’t show the updated changes until you go into the code and back, unless you press the “Update” Button, and then the changes will be Public. I think there’s a workaround by downloading the Project, then loading the updated version onto the Project after, but it’s annoying, it should just be a Scratch Feature.

can you do a tutorial for converting cloud variables from numbers to letters? for example an encoding method could be A = 01, B = 02 and so on, so HAT would be saved in the cloud variable as 080120, then it would be set to HAT when decoded

If you really want an intro, make sure there is a skip button, and state it in the intro, don't say it only in the description, write a text on screen: "S for Skip" Until the intro finishes! Great way for you to get your intro but not disturb the potential likes!!

Here's my position. 1. Mostly Agree. Thumbnails are important for bigger projects that one spent more time on, but it might not make much of a difference for smaller projects. 2. Disagree. I don't see the necessity to unify Instructions with Notes and Credits. It's just a much bigger wall of text that might be MORE difficult for some users to parse. 3. Strongly disagree. This one is my personal Scratch politics, but I do not believe in tag salad. If one is so desperate for attention that one would tag every word they can think of, one's project is probably not that good. 4. Agree. Although not super relevant to my projects, adding a high score variable (provided that unlimited scoring exists) usually improves competition anew replayability. 5. Strongly agree. I don't know why such long intros even exist on a platform like Scratch. Nobody cares who the creator is, the vast majority users just want to play a good game.

I find it soo intrusive to have the thumbnail to show when you stop the game, I never do this to my games even if pressing stop may show things that had transparency or that shouldnt be visible, I feel like we shouldnt try to hide how our games work in a plataform that is all about sharing and learning.
