So I finally got this video to not be copyrighted! This is the best I can do right now so if it does change its mind and gets blocked later then that'll be the end of it. So enjoy it while u can 🙂 happy new year y'all edit: also i know im known for mispronouncing words so I apologize if i did it again in this video lmao i tried my best to pronounce things correctly but my brain gets jumbled and I speak without thinking!
Ikr like my dad always seen animation a children shows wich is sad but he has a soft spot with ghibli flims where watch it with big smile on face and talk to me about it for hours. Its eyecandy like butterscott or fresh, sweet berries
Isn’t it based on The Little Mermaid? I know the original story by Hans Christian Andersen gets pretty dark, but I wouldn’t say Ponyo itself is darker for it.
@@Thingumadoodle0518 basically, the theory is that Ponyo is a harbinger/agent of death and that everyone died in the tsunami. Google can elaborate for you, but giving the film a rewatch with the death context in mind is very interesting
Ponyo is one of my all time favorite ghibli movies the animation is so. Satisfying and the sounds make you feel like your actually there it’s amazing 🤩
I remember loving this movie when i was younger, and i still love it now. It looks so fantastic and the characters are so fun and interesting, especially ponyo, she just absolutely adorable
Something ive been curious about is what happens right after the movie. Like, does Sosukes mom just drop that she basically adopted another kid all at once on the dad, or does she try to ease him into it? This is legitimately something Ive been wondering about for a good while.
I've permanently associated ponyo with me and my friend watching it in the back of chemistry class about a week before our last exam. We never got to finish it and never will since we go to different schools now, but every time I see clips from the first half of the film its like I can smell the classroom again
I watched Ponyo right after grave of the fireflies which made me cry my eyes out. Something I love about Ponyo is that it’s just easy to vibe to. The story was a little confusing for me, but just seeing Ponyo made me smile. Not my favorite ghibli movie, but a very good one
I remember when I first watched this movie, the thing that I was mesmerized most by was the level of detail and vibrancy in the animation for this movie. You nailed it with the comment about how every scene looks like a perfect painting/wallpaper.
I remember I used to watch this with my mom every night when i was younger and i think she memorised the entire script at this point. But even if you don’t count the script of a Ghibli film i think just watching the animation alone hits so hard
I remember having this on DVD, and i’d watch over and over, but I kind of forgot how sad it was. And rewatching it on MAX, I truly love it, and understand it more.
Ooh! If you want a good Gibli movie recommendation, I highly suggest spirited away! It's such an amazing movie, and one of my favorite movies. Or if you want something else wholesome, I suggest Totoro. There's also a movie with a hot character, but I've been rambling for too long lmao.
Ponyo was my first Gibli movie and is a family favorite that we can quote word by word. The fact that awesome May actually reacted to it has made my day. Also anytime anyone in my family sees ham we say HAAAAAAMMMM.
Out of all the studio Ghibli movies, my top two favorites have to be kiki's delivery service and Ponyo. Both those movies are just so cute and fun to watch 😊
I remember Ponyo as a vague recollection from when I was a very small child. I never remembered the name, only the fish girl with chicken legs. Then I saw it playing at some Japanese restaurant, and I got nostalgia whiplash. I'm so glad I could watch this video to revisit it. In my opinion, this is a peak movie
Bro not even lying, I was watching one of your videos because I was bored and needed something in the background to watch, but i already had seen it, so I go searching for some of your videos I haven’t watched and get the notification!😅
I remember Ponyo! I saw that movie in theaters when I was little, and it's the first anime movie I ever saw. Thank you for making a video about it, and have a happy new year! Here's to 2024, an amazing and better year 🥂
Jokes aside. This movie is so flipping cute and My Neighbor Totoro is too. I've been checking out every Ghibli movie for the past month and the range this studio has insane. From cute stuff like Ponyo to tragedy like Grave of the Fireflies and even surrealism like Spirited Away.
Ponyo is arguably in my opinion very nostalgic to me as this was the first Ghibli film I watched as a kid. This, along with the original Lion King are the reasons I draw and why I wanna be an aspiring animator. It was the first animated film that gave me comfort and made me feel warm and happy everytime I watched it. Something Netflix's Klaus (2019) would do years later.
This was one of the first movies I’ve ever watched and apparently I watched it a lot to the point where any Ghibli film my parents saw after it they mistook for Ponyo just because of the art style
that was really for some reason the only footage i could find in high quality so i apologize! i utilized it to make a whole part talking about dub and sub so it worked out
WHEN I SAY THAT THE MOMENT I SAW THIS VIDEO IN MY RECOMMENDED I SCREAMED OF PURE JOY, I AM NOT KIDDING. Initial reaction aside, I'm so happy you talked about this movie, it was one of my first Ghibi movies, and is probably my favorite movie ever ever since I was 5. Just the whole movie just feels like it captures childlike sense of wonder, elevated by the wondrous art of the sea and it's creatures that makes me feel like it wraps me up in a blanket of just comfort. I also feel like this movie actually encapsulates what an energetic child is with Ponyo because I was even called that as a nicknamed because we both were energetic and ham loving children lol. I don't really care if people say that there's better movies out there than this one, because this movie is so amazing in how it intertwined the magic and the beauty of just everyday life that everything just feels so natural and that it's always been there, and I can only imagine that the beautiful simplicity of it all is what Ponyo fell in love with. This is one of the only movies where I still experience the feelings I felt since my first viewing, and just you talking about it made me very happy that someone else is talking about how comforting this movie is, nice work :D A little unrelated- but tbh I still get just as excited as Ponyo in the ramen scene, she just like me fr lol
I haven’t seen the movie in 10 years but my one memory of it is of me and my friend renting it from the library and watching it on our old VHS tv in my basement while sitting on a pink rug on the cold concrete floor. 👍good times
As someone’s whose first Studio Ghibli movie and remembers watching it on DVD back when I was younger with my sisters, it’s genuinely one of Ghibli’s most wholesome movies I couldn’t agree more with your review on it. (Happy New Year’s, May!)
this movie is close to me because it’s a nickname my family calls me! one time as a little toddler my brother held me above the water and I started absolutely booking it in the air, like Ponyo running on the water. so yes I’m very happy someone is talking about Ponyo
I LOVE POYNO!!! It’s so wholesome and sweet and I really enjoy u talking about movies that you usually don’t talk about! From once I stared to watch Awesomemay content, I don’t remember you talking about Anime/ not western Media- BUT OMG NO I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING IN THIS VIDEO💕💕 This is so factual ‼️🗣️🔥
I just saw this film for the first time yesterday and just rewatched it today. What a fantastic movie. I'm an adult but it really just brought be back to the innocence of childhood. So happy to have watched it. It's one of my favorite movies all-time and I've seen plenty of movies. Can't wait to dip into the other Ghibli films Also! Nice video! Subbed!
Ponyo is just such an iconic film although I started watching anime because of spirited away but my personal favourite is howls moving castle like AEUGH ALL THEIR FILMS ARE SO GOOD😭😭😭😭
i dont trust people who dont like ponyo, for well over a decade it was the first and only ghibli movie i had seen and its SO GOOD and its still my favorite of the ghibli movies ive seen lol
This made me realize how much my 4-5yr old brain didn’t process this movie. I thought Fujimoto was Ponyo’s mom, and all I recollected was “fish turn into girl. Parent doesn’t want this” and nothing else
I grew up watching Studio Ghibli movies :D Sosuke’s crying haunts me, I’ve accidentally memorized the entire thing. Ponyo’s a great movie though, one of my favorites :]
I remember seeing the trailer for this movie on a dvd of another movie (you know, back then when they had trailers on the dvd like they do at the theaters), and although I can’t remember what movie it was that the trailer was on, that movie always stuck out to me, and last year I finally fulfilled my childhood dream of watching it. Wasn’t disappointed at all.
im normally someone who just dont like anime in general but studio ghibli is the one exception to that because it just makes me feel like a kid again ya know
The part where the elderly women are having fun running around made me almost cry. It was the most wholesome thing I have ever seen coming from a wholesome movie.
I love this movie so much,it’s so weird yet so wholesome,if that makes sense.Idk why but for some reason I have two sketchbooks of ponyo (the cover had ponyo on it)
Ponyo is literally one of THE first movie I ever watched when I was a kid from my childhood. Usually I saw the movie as something from my childhood but the more I became obsessed with animation and Ghibli itself, the more I really want to see. I'm so very happy to know this film will always be cherish in my dumb child brain.
I have an original dvd from like the 2009 and it has a second cd that basically goes behind the scenes and concept art and had been my favorite movie since i was little :)
