Some of us simply don’t have a choice because of caregiving responsibilities - trying to maintain two households along with caregiving responsibilities and holding down a full time job is just too hard. I have a friend that still lived at home with his dad til the day his dad died a few months ago. We were best friend in HS and he is still working a part time 20-30 hour job a week like we did back then. We are both 49 years old. He is still at home and his dad paid for everything. an example is his dad paid for all car insurance and home bills plus vacations my friend went on. Now you say he was fine to live at home and I say what is his plan now? The other siblings have already made it clear the house will be sold and this will leave him with some inheritance but no real survival skills at 49 years old. Dave is correct as are the momma and daddy birds.

@@theimperfectscrapper5313 he is your typical American consumer that does not follow a plan and lives in the moment so you can imagine what his finances look like. That inheritance will be gone in no time. Dave is right, you have to have a plan and stick to it and Dave's plan is the best Godly advice you can follow for money and life. I read in so many comments that these kids are saving living off their parents but we all know this just isn't a 100% truth to the reality that most kids living off their parents abuse the gift and in the long run end up hurting the parents and themselves. People speak of traditions where kids and parents live together like Indian Families do as an example. But those Indian children pay for their parents and provide a home as they get older along with care. Way different than American kids or kids in general.

@@supersportrsz28 very true about consumerism. My 20 year old son has been working, living at home and saving like crazy. He has a nice bank account for his efforts and in the next couple of years will be able to buy himself a unit. I’m in Australia and our house prices are insane. Dave likes to keep things simple and that's usually the best way to help struggling people, but sometimes life is complicated. This woman is never going to have children, probably never going to get married, isn't going to save any money on her income living on her own. I totally disagree with Dave on this point. There is no problem with sharing expenses with parents if it’s necessary. I did. Both of my parents are with the Lord now, and I’m on my own, but I took care of each of them until their dying day. As hard as it was, I would do it again rather than put them in a nursing home unless absolutely necessary. If I had lived separately, our expenses would have been DOUBLED what they were, and neither of us could afford that. So, why not live in the same house, share expenses, and take care of one another? I was not mooching off of them, nor they off of me. Sometimes it just works out better for everyone that way.

Some children just make an emotional and physical-proximate attachment with their parents that they don't believe they're required to terminate. I've seen this with one woman in my extended family. She had a few boyfriends, but nothing stuck. Graduated college, but always wanted to return home. She could have moved from her childhood home but thought, "Why? I love it here. I love my parents. I can take care of them physically and we can combine incomes so that we can comfortably cover our shared expenses. Why must I leave?" And she never left. It didn't seem entirely crazy, either.

Only in North America and few countries in Europe that this is considered strange. Most cultures have multi generational living situations, it's different if the child/ adult is a bum. You could be top surgeon and still live at home until you are married or about to, then once you start having kids mum and dad comes to live with you to help raise the kid, and then stays till they pass on, (they could have their own apartment or section in the compound aka granny flat) and circle continues.
