I totally relate.... I only learned about INFJ and personality types on Monday, and since then I’ve just been learning more about INFJ’s. It made me realize how not alone I was in my thinking and how I interact with people in general. It’s allowed me to accept some of the things I thought were faults inside of myself. It’s given me so much clarity, and has allowed me to focus on things I want to change and embrace the things I can’t control. These videos helped a bunch to be honest

Is it weird to be a selfish infj? I feel like I always put myself first and sometimes I have to manually turn on my empathy button and care about how others are feeling, I also don't know how to miss people, I can spend months without having any contact with some friends and I feel like a liar when I tell them I miss them but very few times I feel like I do miss them, it's just idk I don't get easily attached to someone, only the people who are very close to me and have a lot in common with that I might wish to see more frequently

Another "selfish" INFJ here. 🙋🏻‍♀️ I also don't get too attached with people and can go off the grid for months, then come back like nothing ever happened. 😂 I do tend to put myself first in many situations, often coming as a bit rude. I curse a lot and just like you, I have to manually turn on my empathy button in order to invest in a friend's or family member's struggles. But unlike you, I don't lie about missing someone unless I genuinely missed someone. I try to be as authentic and honest as possible, even if I sometimes come off as rude or insensitive. Though deep down I worry about hurting the feelings of my loved ones so it's an aspect of myself I've been working on. Either way, just letting you know that it's not that weird, I guess. 😂

In what way selfish...if you care more about arguing about being right than to seek some common ground for everyone to be as satisfied with the situation as possible... well maybe that's not so INFJ...but if you don't care what other people want to do if they think it's fun as long as you don't have to do it too...and you prefer to retreat from the group... then I guess that's not weird...INFJs usually don't miss people...don't know why...maybe we have a different way of perceiving time...I don't know really 😬 I'm not an expert on INFJ behaviours...but then again...who can be...we're so complecated that we don't understand ourselves from time to time😬

Has anybody else have strangers' dogs come up to them, displaying signs of affection? If so, then the "instant confidence" seems to work with animals as well...
@johnravely2872
@johnravely2872 5 лет назад
Yes. We share many values with dogs, and are calm and available. Like us, dogs are constantly watching how those around them act and react, and scan facial expressions to gauge the situation and expectations. We appreciate their open honesty and unconditional love/acceptance, and desire for companionship, loyalty, and vulnerability. When it comes to cats, they want to initiate. Trying to grab, pick up, and pet a strange cat makes them uncomfortable. Cats are more interested in you if you ignore them, and are calm. In a situation of visiting a new place, like an aquaintance's house/family, we would be calm and seemingly withdrawn, actively listening, absorbing the new social situation. This is a magnet for cats to feel comfortable investigating.

I am an INFJ that went the career sales/consulting route in life. I feel like typology has not only helped me work on my weaknesses, but it has also helped me not be as sensitive to rejection in sales because I better understand how my clients think. My INFJ development area: Hulk mode. We were discussing which super hero we’d be once and my husband said I was the Hulk. Not due to my stature, which is relatively petite, but due to my explosive outbursts. Let me explain: I take , and take, and take , and take, and then out of the blue I will go full Hulk mode and completely freak everyone out. My INFJ empathy completely exhausted I go ape. It doesn’t happen often, maybe once every couple of years. Anyone else? Or am I alone on this? I’ve tested INTJ once by a prior employer, and subsequently as INFJ.

When you feel displaced and then suddenly discover why and then find people who are similar, it takes considerable effort not to circle the wagons. It's probably even harder for some of the youngins. Whoa, now I get cat videos and flashes of my favorite Smash Bros. character? Awesome.

This was a really nice video! I usually have a lot of disdain for these MTBI subject videos, but yours is more introspective and honest than most. I think that all personality types are contingent on upbringing during childhood, current socioeconomic climate, and mental health. Most important is mental health, and self ascribed types may not always be beneficial to the state of one's mind. What you seem to put forth builds on Jung's work of individuation, of knowing that finding what archetypes you fall into can and should always be worked upon. This was very refreshing!

I really needed this video. A couple of weeks ago I found out that I was a INFJ and everything clicked. I've always felt like different, like I didn't belong anywhere (I could be in any group but it didn't feel right), no one understood me but I understood everyone. I'm very selective about the people that I surround myself with, because I seek deep and genuine connections to people. That has led me to have very high expectations of what people should be or act like. Lately I've come to realize that people are just that, people. They're not a perfect specimen that checks everything I'm looking for. Also, I'm coming to terms with my personality, I didn't like being an introvert, or the fact that I'm an empathic, self-conscious person. So yeah, this video has helped me a lot to analize my thoughts and realize that it's okay to be like that, I just have to accept myself and improve to be a healthier person. Typology is truly interesting, it's one of the reasons I'm going to study psychology when I go to university. Keep up the amazing work on your channel!

Perhaps, I’m an outlier in the INFJ community, but I had always just known and accepted that other people “think differently”. if life would as easy as an INFJ... no of course not. The formula I came up with so far is Personality type + Upbringing + living conditions + choice = Life of an INFJ. well or any other human. Its pretty dumb to take the personality type test and then they say "yup I'm done".

I agree completely. I'm much older than most of the people watching this so I've spent most of my life not knowing why I was different than most of the people around me. First, the empathy makes learning that a whole lot of people lie devastating when you are young. It took me years to come to terms with that. Second, my empathic skills made me an excellent therapist. However I didn't realize how easy it is to become drained and had not set up a strong outside support system. Thus, I burned out after ten years. So, it's good to know your type to help you navigate through your life. Not only for yourself, but for others too. We all have strengths and weaknesses.

What you’ve helped me with the most is educating me with how my weakness as an INFJ kind of prevents me from using one of my main strengths. I’ve always lived in my head and my imagination is so vivid. But that’s all I’ve seen it as. Just daydreaming. After watching your videos I was able to see how important it is for me to push myself to bring what’s in my head out into the world. It’s nice to hear all the strengths of your personality type and pride yourself on them. But if you don’t tackle how your weaknesses stunt your growth, ability, and those strengths then it’s kind of pointless. It was nice to finally understand myself in a deeper way but really it’s so i can help myself as well and see what my purpose is. A lot of you content give me the courage to do so in creative ways. So Thankyou :)

Yeah, its labelling. Labels can he a source of strength and identity, they can also hold you back and cause stagnation. It's about incorporating that label into who you are without letting the label become who you are. Great video. I'm not an infj and I rarely watch MBTI videos as I find most channels actually suffer from that exact problem, along with stereotyping. But your videos are very insightful, plus my SO is infj so I like to watch these now and again.

Greatly appreciate your videos thus far and even more so, the somewhat diverse analogies/examples. The only way typology can become a means of segregation; is by someone’s decision not to accept a perspective, idea or process, similar to their own. Which is the same type of closed-mindedness from which negative portrayal and hatred, are eventually created. Only by learning more about ourselves AND others, can we evolve into a more harmonious existence. I truly believe that by further exploration and comprehension of our thoughts, reactions and naturally developed perspectives/observational processes, we can only improve our communication and interactions. Looking forward to hearing more, as I continue to watch/listen.

The problem with typology is that very first letter, just cuz your introverted doesnt mean you have to exclude yourself from everything, the real beauty in the types is the last three letter which describe the more important aspects of your personality. In my opinion. I have tested as infp and infj so far and I know I'm introverted but that self awareness has helped me try and push myself out of my bubble I will be in a room and I'm like ok I'm being introverted as fuck I should say what's on my mind instead of just thinking to myself.

I agree with you 100 percent, I would also like to add. It seems to be a product of our individualistic society, everyone wants to be special in some way. Saying that they have these qualities or cognitive abilities and starting to become egotistical and dive deep into the ego. Instead of learning how to grow the cognitive abilities they are weak at.

INFP A I agree 💯 % 5 years ago I was dating a girl, while going through a divorce, and had just started my second year of seeing a counselor weekly. Said girl sprung the personality test and love language tests on me while we were having a couple beers at a bar. I went with it, came back infpa, and didn't think anything else about it for a long time. Couple years later I see the test pop up on a friend's FB feed, so I took it again. I've taken it once a year, and the last time I did I tried to answer most of the questions differently. By that I mean instead of "kind of" disagree, or agree- I felt more strongly about the topic. INFP A. AGAIN. The type description I have has HELPED me in some bad times when I was feeling low. It's helped me when I was feeling angry and misunderstood, in all of my personal interactions and relationships with my soon to be fiance, kids, parents... it helped because I do work in areas I wasn't strong in, and have learned to take pride in and accept certain strengths and traits I didn't even realize were there. Contrary to my PT, I'm not going to proof read and edit this ramble. Bc I've already spent too long typing a comment that I can easily turn into an essay

100% agree with you, Mr. FJ, I used to think a lot of people were just useless idiots, in fact now I can understand why they act like that and instead of pushing them away I felt more connected with them and, I kind of diminished my criticism about them to be more receptive because I noticed after taking the test that I'm a weirdo too and people might also think I'm an idiot because I'm always making my distance from them

Another well done video, Frank. You know, even within any certain type there are great differences as you know from all your studying. I am an infj and all the oversensitivity and frustration and wanting to run away from all the other people that seem to have gotten the memo on how to live a fun and outgoing and joyful life without ever worrying about the million stupid little things that kept me back were mysterious to me. So, having empathy allowed me to actually feel their Joy just by watching them live. But one interesting thing is that I have seen you growing into empathy. When you first started, and you knew the different types, you still reacted with frustration and self-consciousness and maybe even anger. Some INFJs already have empathy and that saves a lot of negative feelings because generally I used to feel sorry for people that on the surface seemed to have it all but my empathy could see past that and I could relate to them at a deeper level. And you know we like to go deep. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm glad that you studied all the augmented parts that make people say what they say and do what they do so that you don't have to react to that. In other words, I knew you were a hell of a man and I just had to wait two years for you to catch up to him!! :-) If you knew how it feels to be house bound for two and a half years and somehow hang on to a semblance of sanity then you would know why I'm rambling. I am down to the nitty gritty of life and death and I'm afraid. And every time I reach out to someone they always find a clever way to push me away. When I make it through this storm I will be much stronger, I pray. But for now, I feel like a little girl who's left alone in the house with her dad and I am seeing him passing away. How does an infj handle that? Each night, when he lays in my bed for a couple hours I can feel all of the energy of him being ill and I don't know how to stop it from becoming my illness. I guess it would take an empath to teach me how but right now Frank, I don't know how I'm going to make it till the weekend. Thank you for everything that you do. That was one of your top 10 videos. And I love baseball analogies and football analogies and if you could throw in some hockey, bull riding and equestrian ones I would like that too.! :-) love, Carly

I have to agree with you! I found out about typology in 1990. I really liked it because it really highlighted the best of each type even though we are all so different. Very optimistic approach. My husband is ISTJ and I love bouncing my ideas off him because his thinking logistically is so much stronger than mine. He sees details that I miss and vica versa. However getting him to see my INFJ strengths and blind spots has been a huge undertaking. We talk about these subjects and our differences alot. I agree that continually developing is important, however, I venture to say that not all types see that as necessary. Wish it were different. I thank you for your videos. I look forward to watching them each week.

Agreed, after the initial surprise and awe of finding out I'm normal as an INFJ can be I was less impress with just accepting the weakness and strengths. I wanted to be the best me and I started to challenge alot of those weaknesses. As an INTJ-T, I enjoy watching Frank James' videos. To answer another part of your question, I believe I try to understand INFJs because I feel very similar to them and/or vice versa. Overall, I'm still in the the baby process of typology. It may be a while before I get a overall 'sense or understanding' of the 16 types of myers briggs. :)

Frank James, I agree about not stopping here at my type and improving myself for the better...I also agree on how people misuse our 'type' to have their ego to be fed. (As I have seen in the comments of other youtubers' channel, several INTJs want to 'wrong' people in a very 'cold' way, not to offend or call out my type. But then again I understand them because I am one too and it is a part of their or our personality type. However, I am thankful that I am Turbulent one and not an Assertive type INTJ.) Before the time I learned of MBTI, I was into Astrology, learning of my birth chart. Did I stopped there? Nope. I came to know of and learn more about who I am through my environment, religion/spirituality, my chakra points, my color auras, numerology, and eventually MBTI. These all helped me to learn things and in return, maybe oneday I will be able to 'teach' someone with the things I have past learned and apply it to their lives. To sum it up, like you have somewhat directly/indirectly stated, I believe that every type and/or everyone should continiue to improve their lives and those around them, even if it simple and small. Great content, btw! 😊

I subscribed to your channel specifically because of this video. So many people brag how they are empaths. How they are special and feeling everything. I’m like cool so you have empathy? No I’m an Empath. Yeah narcissists also possess empathy to an extent. Sociopaths recognize cognitive empathy. We aren’t all these special psychic people who are so misunderstood because we have ascended to some higher level of awareness. Empathy is a common emotion, and many empaths I know are actually pretty emotionally unstable. Let’s relax with the labels and focus on relating to others and working on ourselves. I completely support this video, I know I went on somewhat of a rant detour but back to what I was saying thank you for posting this 😂

Okay, so your baseball reference inspired me to google INFJ and athleticism.. Because INFJs live so much in their heads and fantasy. I have felt very much that I exist in my mind and not in my body. In younger years i could forget that I had a body. At age 37, (I’m currently 42), I started running, and it was a revelation. Spending a little time and attention with my body, I found that it was actually very intelligent despite my neglect and ignorance of it. As and INFJ, developing my athleticism and listening to my body has made me a more well rounded (ironically slimmer, tho), person.
