The best part of track days is going faster than cars that are supposed to be fast...Lotus, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and Maclaren. Yes, I know it's the driver in these cases but, in the case of my RX-8, it was 14k when I bought all those years ago and it's going faster than cars that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars
People with a lot of money tend to buy cars that are too fast for them. Better to track a car whose behavior you understand that won't go faster than your talent can handle.
Todd's missed shift during the drag race was made even better by the shifter knob finding it's own new shift pattern faaaaaar to the left of normal! lol
Other manufacturers: we use threads to attach the shift knobs so they don't come off. BMW: 16:27 That's not your fault Todd. That's the car. Shift knobs aren't supposed to come off the shift Lever.
Thank you Paul. My thoughts on track driving exactly. If you want to compete, go to auto x. If you're going to a track day, leave the stopwatch at home. It's you and the track. Nobody else matters, including your friends who will want to know what your lap times were. No idea. Couldn't care less.
Here's what I've learned about track vehicles: the more you spend on it, the more likely it is to break, and the more expensive it will be to fix. Also your consumables will be higher. CTS-V wagon drank 2 tanks in one day, killed its brakes and tires. I drank half a tank and used those tires another 6 months

But ok I'll take the point by if you don't like... Corners... I guess I should not be surprised. You drive for a living and I commute on a mountain road. After all I was getting stuck behind C7's on the PCH cruise and I was in a 100hp, 90lbft carbureted rx7 on all season tires. Power means nothing if corners scare you.
Throughout the video, I can see you guys picking up speed. Everything is so relaxed in this series of videos. Very nice work. I would be sideways in every corner on lap 1, haha
Have fallen in love with the z4 from your video series. Cannot wait for the market to settle down and be able to find one myself for 8000 or less...might take a while
When I bought my Brand New™ C5 back in 2000, I slapped in a Sparco Evo, harness, some DOT slicks, Porterfield R4s and promptly got LAPPED by a 200k mile NA Miata at Texas World Speedway. Fast cars are fun, but fast drivers have more fun.
Ive tracked my 03 z4 a lot and really all you need is tires and better brakes. Get a horizontal strut brace too, it will help with the turn in. Also eibach springs will help with body roll.
👍 I like to see the car test on track. I been debating cheap car for track fun too. I am planning on getting a ZL1 1LE but that is not cheap. I do have fun in my GTI but looking to go RWD manual transmission. I like the room for run off on that track. When you line up for a session you should know the faster drivers after a session so line up accordingly.

I 'fixed' (as in, made less bad) the brake travel problems in the Lexus by switching from ceramic pads to metallic pads. Just be prepared to replace your rotors more often.
@@Eastcoastcarclub all 6 cyl Z3's had LSDs. They are torsen units on all but the M models which had clutch packs. The only open diff Z3's are the 4 cylinders, which have trouble breaking traction anyway.
@@Eastcoastcarclub Yeah... thats the sad part, its a lot of money for those cars. And the "less expensive" $1500 options are notoriously poorly manufactured and require a lot of manual labor. Earlier BMW parts swap around like legos. I put a Z3 torsen in my 1984 533i, and it was ridiculously easy, and it only cost me $300 at a dismantler for the whole differential. Around the time that the Z4 and E46/E39 were out, BMW had reasoned that traction control made limited slip differentials irrelevant unless you were INTENTIONALLY breaking the rear tires loose, and they incorrectly assumed that the only people interested in doing that would only ever buy the M cars. The problem, of course, is not just that an open differential affects drifting, it's that it affects putting power down out of a corner too. Cutting power from the engine is not what you want when you're launching out of a corner. They fixed this by the E89/E90 generation with a traction control system that would pre-emptively brake the inside wheel when powering out of a corner, drastically reducing the occurrence of wheel slip and making traction control feel seamless rather than like the ECU scolding you for driving too fast. I drove an E92 335is and I was CONVINCED it had an LSD (it did not). That leaves the E46, E39, E60 and E85 cars in the awkward time between when limited slip differentials were a factory option and when the traction control system was sophisticated enough to simulate an LSD. I am sure the E85, like the non-M E46 and E39 cars, has its own merits that make it worth owning and keeping. Personally, I'd look into switching into a later model Z4 or a Z3 rather than putting a LSD in an E85, but the early cars are getting harder to find in not-trashed condition and the later ones have some eye-watering parts costs (fuel injectors, electric water pump, etc.) So if the car is near and dear to your heart, and you put an LSD in it, I heartily approve. It would be really nice if a factory torsen option had been available, but no car is perfect. Just do some research and make sure the one you get is going to be dependable, as they are all aftermarket for your car.

also the z4 actually launches best w dtc off but dsc on dtc cuts power to prevent burnouts but,, dsc rly just brakes to immitate an lsd (not as good as lsd but better than open diff w no computer braking)

Rich clowns in expensive cars more often than not have no idea how to drive, much less drive a car anywhere near the limit. I've seen my share of expensive cars on the track that should be going much faster but look more like they're going for a grocery run. I'm not one to discourage track participation but that's just a waste of money.
