Since last month's video on our responses to some commonly-left comments fared pretty well, we decided to finish off June with another one.
This time, we're focusing on some of the ways we relate to cars and car companies, feedback on our staff car saga, and how we get hold of cars to review!
----
00:00 - Introduction
01:15 - Happy Pride Month!
02:47 - Stop being MEAN to ELON
06:22 - Comments on our families.
07:23 - Fair critiques of car companies
09:09 - Swearing off a company from one experience
11:43 - How we actually get access to vehicles
14:45 - Borrowing/Hiring vehicles to review (and the logistics of that)
18:17 - Thanks, and Goodbye!

My co-worker was talking about the nightmare she is having with her Lemon Subaru. I said I was happy that my 2014 Leaf has never needed service. This prompted her to say, ya but what about when the battery dies in 3 years. I reminded her that mine is 10 years old and that most last that long or longer. I also pointed out that she knows about Electric Lemons because every one of them seems to make the news. I asked if her Lemon Saga with her ICE Subaru made the news - of course it didn't. EVs in general, and Teslas specifically seem to make the news for the kind of issues that ICE cars have had for as long as there have been cars.

@@PenkoAngelov Sure, sounds logical, but doesn't have anything to do with Niki. I guess you don't know the history and what was the question. As far as I know, question was about responsibly for traffic accidents. For example Mercedes takes responsibility if their autopilot crashes, since they were driving the car. Question was if Tesla were planning anything similar... Instead of answer, me got mumbling how journalists are unliving people, with their questions and slowing down the progress. I think this is valid question that any potential user of EV with autopilot would like to know. And so instead of answers we got huge out of court settlements years later. I think more journalist should have repeated this question and some lives could be saved.

I think Nikki and her team do a phenomenal job! Their honesty and fairness make them a "must watch" channel. As far as Tesla cars go, when it comes to reviewing them, it's not particularly interesting (at least for me). Not really anyone's fault but Tesla doesn't follow the traditional model of a new model every year so there isn't a big push to show off new features like in the "traditional" auto world. The models, other than the just released cybertruck, all have a similar look and new features are rolled out as they become available. Many of them aren't even announced. When the big new thing is the door handles changing from chrome to black how do you report on that?

I’m fairly new to posting on the RU-vid and other media and I’ve been struck by how defensive and antagonistic a lot of the other posters are when it comes to criticism of Tesla or Musk. My theory is that is that for a lot of people Tesla is not just a car company but a big investment. So I think they find criticism more threatening. Tesla doesn’t have a car I want to buy, which isn’t to say they don’t have good cars. But even if they did have one I don’t think I could bring myself to buy one as Musk has made it clear he doesn’t care if Tesla gets my business and I certainly don’t want to feel like I’m putting money in his pocket. It’s an individual choice, I don’t go looking at people driving Teslas and see them as supporting Elon.

Too often dealers will ride out with you, and they definitely won’t let you go out just anywhere, certainly not for several hours with very rare exception…for most of us at least. A review loan is often for a few days of independent operations, which is the point. You simply cannot get enough of a feel for the experience of a car in a short test drive. Anyone who has bought a new car knows this hard truth, discovering things days or weeks later. Remember that Tesla is unique in the auto industry in _not_ providing friendly review access. It speaks volumes that they feel they must closely shepherd the experience while other car makers trust their vehicles to speak for themselves.

Brands cannot be judged by their dealers. I bought my car at a dealership a couple hundred miles away because it was the only one that had Hyundai's at the time (and wasn't charging ridiculous markups). My local dealership isn't EV certified and is not allowed to do any work on them or sell them. So I kept going to that further away dealership. However, last time I went there for a TSB/recall software update, they didn't do it but kept saying they did. My dashcam footage and the fact that the features that came with that update are not in the car tells me they lied to me. Later I talked to a friend who had issues with that dealership with an ICE car. Long story short, that dealership is crap and I'll never ever go there anymore. It doesn't mean Hyundais are bad cars!!

Elon Musk is a complete whack job. Granted, Musk and Tesla pretty much paved the way for EV's to flourish. But other manufacturers have taken the reigns in terms of quality control and engineering. A good example would be the Rivian as an adventure vehicle and the F150 Lightning as a truck for truck use... As opposed to the Cybertruck which is good at neither, and serves only as a toy for fan boys. What Tesla lacks in quality of assembly is somewhat balanced out by leading the pack in terms of range and charging speed. But you are correct, EV's are an emerging technology, and all manufacturers have issues and occasionally silly design and engineering choices. In the end, we must all buy what we like that fits our budget and mission profile.

If you want to review a Cybertruck, I have to believe that Zack and Jesse at _Now You Know_ would lend you theirs for a little while. Their whole gig is: Buy a Cybertruck, buy an F-150 Lightning, and buy a Rivian R1T and put them through some Actual Pickup Truck Life (such as it is in Massachusetts) to see which is good at which task. While they are certainly a very Tesla-friendly channel generally speaking, I think they are interested in doing a good job as journalists so hopefully they will be receptive to you guys if you reach out...?

Actually, we are following a lead on one. For what it's worth, we specifically do NOT buy and sell vehicles in quick succession for a number of reasons. First, that's NOT how REGULAR people buy cars. Owning them for extended periods gives a far more realistic real-world experience, and allows us to report on issues far further down the line. Second, we couldn't afford it. Nikki actually purchased her truck NOT through the business for a reason: it's a family vehicle and a work truck that she and her wife claim miles on when it's used for business purposes. Third, We want to promote long-lasting EV ownership, as that's the only way people will be able to lessen their carbon footprint long term!
@oooChickenatorXooo
@oooChickenatorXooo 11 дней назад
@@transportevolved Oh, no, they're not buying them one at a time.... Zack and Jesse bought all three pickups with the intention of owning them all long-term, and putting them through their paces over the long haul. Their stated goal is they want to be able to say "I love my cybertruck and all, but after 100,000 miles This Bad Thing happens, and here's how you fix it, and it's actually pretty minor when it happens on the Rivian, but it happens at 75,000 miles..." etc. This is why I figured they'd be willing to part with a cybertruck for a few days/weeks/however long TE needs to do a Proper Shakedown Cruise. But I am glad to hear you're managing to track one down without Now You Know's help. It's good to have Options. :-)

First of all - Yes, please continue making such videos answering question, complaints and so on. Conversation with your audience in important. Thank you! Second, I'd like to add a few things: - We finally reached a conclusion that we CAN disagree with each other and respect each other at the same time! - I don't think MOST people have a problem with you or anyone being gay (or something else). I and everyone I know (will refer to as "we") (...and I'm definitely not surrounded by like-minded people) have no problems with people that are different from me. What I think they have a problem with, is that don't like it if someone is parading with their sexuality. Or if someone always shifts the conversation towards "pride", "agenda" or "notice me, because I'm different". Same probably goes for why you are not allowed at some events... maybe the organizers fear or expect you to start speaking about sexuality and not the topic of the event. When someone makes their sexuality to be the center of their personality, they might probably not be taken seriously. - Getting "hate" is just a byproduct of human nature and the shield that is the internet. Many act much different that they normally do when they are behind a screen. You can call them a "vocal minority". That should NOT give you the impression that you are universally hated, abused or "not allowed to exist". I, for example, a straight white male... can get as much or even more hate for pretty much anything. I too can be prohibited from going somewhere or entering an event... and in many occasions I was. - People might have problems with the channel becoming more and more filled with mentions of "pride" or "agenda" that has nothing to do with EVs. We are watching a channel/content about EVs, NOT a channel about social issues and ideologies. I personally never cared if someone mentions "wife" or "husband" or if they are gay or not... I just don't like it when it becomes the core topic of conversation. - On the other hand I do have a complaint about how you are addressing Tesla and Musk. I've noticed you speak with disgust or apathy about them... just because you don't agree with what someone does OUTSIDE of work!? ... Weren't we free to express ourselves and be different? Why are we trying to oppress someone JUST because of our differences? Wasn't that exactly what you were fighting for? You want to "live" and not being oppressed and hater, but you do that to others that have different views? I don't understand... - You can always find a willing subscriber to share their vehicle a couple of days. You can make an additional insurance on that vehicle covering any potential damages you do. (That might not apply to American laws or insurance companies). The lending can always be done with a mutual written agreement, too. - I don't know what your "question" was, but I assume it could have been an off topic on or passive aggressive targeted personal question about rumors or leaks that was intentionally trying to expose a "flow". I might be wrong, as I don't know the whole story. - Try to understand Tesla as a company that revolutionized the EV industry. Try to appreciate their vehicles for what they are... not for who the CEO is. You might have differences - OK, He might speak/write some nonsense from time to time - OK (don't we all do that sometimes?), but he is the one fighting every day against the most vicious and wealthy industries in the world to advance electric mobility and renewable energy! Having enemies in every media and competitors around every corner... Can't you at least AGREE on your COMMON interests and put aside your differences on social issues? That's all for now. Be who you want to be, don't give a fudge about someone else's opinion and thank you for your time! Ah, and I'll use Kate's words here - "I will say Happy Pride Month to you when you accept that people can have different views. And when you stop hationg on Tesla and Musk just because of your social differences."
@PenkoAngelov
@PenkoAngelov 8 дней назад

Really hoping the R2/R3 are home runs in terms of value and quality. My tentative plan is to trade my model 3 for one when they are widely available. I like 90% of my model 3, it's honestly a great vehicle minus a few quirks and design decisions. But most vehicles fall in that category to be fair. Financially it's not smart, by the time the R2 is widely released my model 3 will be paid off.

My dad and best friend have a kia Seltos and I had a Kia EV6, love the cars but service was hit or miss for them and me depending on the kia dealership. I sold my kia EV6 and got Genesis GV70 electrified. Which I have to say is great and a lot of people don't know about it, based on comments I get. The only thing to make it perfect would be a bigger battery. But 95% of my trips are around town and when I go out of town, it's just under 200 miles, so it is not an issue. The service has been better at Genesis but not quite up to BMW or Mercedes yet in my opinion. I love the channel, please try not to let the haters bug you. If someone has an issue with lgbt, why are they even on this page? Maybe the RU-vid algorithm is feeding them more lgbt content based on their history trail..... lol

Sometimes, I just write "Algorithm" (at times, backward) and can't watch it because of my situation at work. Clarification videos help some folks understand the proper context of the topic without focusing on a specific example or brand. Regarding the presenter's personal situation, I don't think it makes any difference to me. All I care about is the content. yep - what has your gender, marriage choice or even whats in your pants have to do with reviewing cars and keeping me up to the news? One of my favourite Home Automation channel owners recently had a child, and most of the channels have a reference or two to thier spouse or offspring regularly. After all, they also drive cars, or have to ride in them (no leg room in back seat - useless to familys ), or live with dodgy home battery systems ( sorry Ford.. NOT ). So family IS something that matters in my opinion in reviews. Keep up the good work, and consider that most "butthurt" people are sore because thier head is up there!

I wanted to say how much I enjoy your show. I believe it's well balanced when it comes to the way companies are criticized. I get it. No company is perfect, but I have to admit that I have never seen a Tesla personally reviewed on your show. I enjoy watching Tesla Time News where their kind of the opposite. Tesla, there can rarely do anything wrong. I've called them out twice already on how they have these tantrums against Rivian and Ford, yet Tesla does the exact same thing, and it's definitely reported at a more excusable tone. It's not the end of the world, but it's definitely noticeable. I'd say your team is more balanced, but I'd say Cybertruck is HUGE when it comes to EV related news. Some way, somehow, you need to have your own review on it. Besides that, I enjoy your show and appreciate your periodic apology on a mistake reported. That goes a long way. Please stay positive. OTOH Tesla has done some great stuff, along with some really squirrelly stuff. I think Chinese OEMs will either own them or kill them in the next ten years, if only because Musk is so erratic and stupid (on top of being dishonest). There are thousands of car channels just here on RU-vid, if you were Tesla, how far up on the priority list would you put this channel? Kyle, since he was mentioned, doesn't seem to have a problem with pointing at what he doesn't like on any car and saying that it is bad and should be fixed in his opinion. I, for one, watch this channel in part because of its clear anti-Elon and attempted Tesla-neutral bias. I happen to agree on your views about Elon Musk. When buying my EV this past April I did not consider Tesla not only because oh him but also the absolute minimalism which I do not like. I think that besides his attitude regarding his allowing all the types of messages on X he has done a couple things regarding the Tesla brand that are wrong. First is identifying himself so strongly with a political position which CEO's should absolutely not do especially in today's highly polarized environment. And second a strategic decision regarding Cybertruck. The resources placed on that product which has certainly relatively high potential in the US market it is not a worldwide product like M3 and MY. His lack of urgency of a high volume "World car" will cost him dearly to competitors not only in China but also in Europe.

1. Free speech is only free when people you don't like can say things you don't like. If you start censoring opinions, especially political ones, than there's no freedom and no democracy. That's exactly what happened after the pandemic. Now governments openly instruct social media platforms to censor their political opponents. And since social media is the primary source of information, that's a serious issue. That's exactly why the First Amendment exists, but they are circumventing it by using big tech companies as proxies for the censoring. 2. Minimalism is good. Much much cheaper, for starters. But also easier to use and aesthetically better too, just have to get used to it. You got used to clutter, but that doesn't make it good. Apple products are minimalist too, and pretty popular. 3. Elon was forced to be political, because politicians attacked him personally, including the president. He just shot back. With his popularity, and allowing free speech on X, he can likely swing the election. Not that Biden needs much help to lose anyway. 4. Tesla will sell more Cybertruck then Model Y. Even just in America it will do exceptionally well, but pickups are popular in other countries too. And with it's higher margins it will make a sh*tload of money too. 5. There's no lack of urgency. But building cheap cars is extremely hard, and with the pandemic prices it was impossible. Things had to cool down first. And now they are actually bringing it forward, launching the new platform on the existing lines, as they now have excess capacity. 6. There's no competition, except maybe BYD. Especially now that everyone outside of China are cutting back their EV plans and slowing down production. And in China most EV companies are struggling too, only the few biggest are doing well.

There are SOME Tesla owners who truly believe their Tesla vehicle is superior in every way, and if you don't own a Tesla, then your vehicle is absolute crap and an inferior vehicle. The main function of any vehicle is to get its occupants from point A to point B. The lunacy around FSD seems to be constant with this particular group of Tesla fan people. When a Tesla vehicle fitted with FSD, that's activated can then drive itself without any human input ever on a long road trip, without incident, then it will be a time of celebration, but as it stands right now, drivers need to supervise their vehicle and be ready to take over and drive the vehicle if an issue arises, just like all non Tesla drivers do, each and every day, they drive their vehicle with that particular vehicle's safety systems activated. Then there is OPD. Considering the majority of vehicles on our roads do not have OPD, we all seem capable of bringing our vehicles to complete stop when we need to. The day when I can not drive my vehicle down the road and apply the brakes or not crash into anything while driving is when I need to stop driving and no longer own a vehicle. Purchasing a vehicle is a personal choice, I don't care what you choose to purchase and drive. it's your choice, and you need to show others the same courtesy.

I hate Tesla, even if the team at TE have to stay objective. Tesla has consistently been led by a liar who took the entire industry in the wrong direction with oversized luxury EVs that are completely unsustainable. History will show this both A) perpetuated car dependency and B) made EVs far less sustainable, to the point that the industry will fail sooner. I know that sounds backwards and uninformed to Tesla lovers, but it's the reality of large battery, no-compromise EV designs which Tesla pioneered, championed, and set the industry standard for.

The one critique of Tesla I didnt understand from you was the idea that it’s hard to tell when autopilot is engaged. I can’t think of a way to make it move obvious that the system is engaged other than using always rainbows. Fords auto steering (not blues clues) will turn on without warning and disable randomly. It’s also a lot more twitchy, and the spongy wheel makes it hard for me to tell when the car is trying to steer. Teslas approach of having a vice grip on the wheel and requiring a much more intentional input on the steering makes it far more clear as to when the system is engaged.
@AnonymousFreakYT
@AnonymousFreakYT 11 дней назад
Ford's system never turns on "without warning". You must push the button to turn it on it every single time you start the vehicle. Once *turned on*, it will default to "trying to engage". And I've found that it is a *LOT* less twitchy than Tesla Autopilot in detecting the required amount of wheel torque to keep it happy that I'm paying attention. With Ford, I can apply a little pressure, and it stays happy, without being so much pressure that it disengages. With Tesla, I've gotten "hold the wheel!" while I'm applying pressure, and it only finally recognizes that I'm actually holding the wheel the instant before it decides I'm applying *too much* pressure, and it disengages. Then it takes effort to get Autopilot to re-engage. In the Ford, I just keep the vehicle centered in the lane, and it re-engages. Note that Rivian is a lot like Tesla - it has the "must force to disengage, won't automatically re-engage," but it also has a capacitive wheel that just requires I literally _touch_ the steering wheel, no "how much torque do I need to provide?" nonsense.
@dylanwhite6539
@dylanwhite6539 11 дней назад
@@AnonymousFreakYT no, you don’t it activates and stays activated with cruise control. There’s no other button to hit for auto steer. If you want to disable it you must disable lane keep entirely. 2023 escape hybrid is my reference vehicle. Again, I am not talking about the $700/year blue cruise system. I’m taking about their basic auto steer vs basic autopilot.
@dylanwhite6539
@dylanwhite6539 11 дней назад
@@AnonymousFreakYT as far as wheel torque, I think you’re just unwilling to learn what it wants. I have *never* accidentally disengaged autopilot by breaking the wheel away. All it takes is a gentle bit or pressure to one side and the warning goes away. I’ve gone over 10 minutes without even the gray text. It’s really not hard at all. I’ve found a lot of peoples first instinct is to wiggle the wheel for some reason. Myself included. That only tells the system you’re not paying attention. Gentle pressure to one side is all it takes.

For instance, you sometimes report about something he said pertaining to Tesla's future without providing the context which would show he's full of it. Keep at it, love your work !

Don't worry, I hate Telsa, why shouldn't I? Are Tesla fans so lovely? Is Elon so lovely? What do the non-haters actually want from you or me - to validate their world view for their inner peace?

Personally I think hate is evil, if you’re going to embrace evil you may as well have the ability to express why.

i had no idea that you were Trans till this video. It doesnt come as a surprise because for me it isnt the reason i'm here. I'm here for EV info. As for any channel spreading a "pride" agenda, I suppose it can be measured by the ratio of time spent on the EV agenda versus other agendas. I have my own opinions and standpoints on "pride" agenda, but then i'm here for the EV info, not to shove or get shoved other peoples sexuality down my throat. I trust the EV info on this channel, and that's all that should matter to the critics.
