I started my channel today. Thank you. It's my birthday and I need positive change in my life.

I started mine last week just to have a creative outlet and a place to talk freely about the books I read.

Gabe is right about 2 things. Some of the most successful videos on my channel are just me shooting the breeze about what I’ve been up to. And I do feel like I’m finding my people. A lot of comments I get are from people who have the same interests as me. And as long as my channel is relatively small, I can respond to every comment, so it feels like community too.

I was enjoying this video and looked at your subscriber count and was shocked that you're not in the millions. Your videos are always amazing!

very good points you make. i had zero plans to 'vlog' back in 2012. but after moving to the philippines, i needed a way to share my videos with my grown kids back home so, i put them on youtube. just goofing around town, exploring places. next thing i knew, 'people of youtube' began asking me questions about visas, budgets, customs, dating. now i've been vlogging for 12 years, over 100,000 subs. over 31 million views. here's an important distinction you made; "you have something you want to say." sadly, everybody and their brother that moves to the philippines now "has a channel". but they have nothing to say. so many just copy other content like a template and hope for views. they aren't putting themselves out there, creatively or sincerely. and so, YT-philippines travel niche is now flooded with many lame channels going nowhere. i just started my 4th channel today. different genres, different audiences. as you said, "your people" are out there, and they will find you. if a person is consistent and constantly improving.

Great video, Gabe! I agree. Starting my RU-vid channel was an excellent decision. I was at rockbottom after losing my mother and my brick and mortar business, followed by entering lockdown in a home filled with business stuff here in New Zealand. On top of that I was officially OLD at 65! So, what did I have to lose? It's been a very good decision that helped me not only reinvigorate my arts practice, but gave me a lot of confidence.

Giving me the final push to get YT channel going, committing an extensive full day next Saturday with no other obligations to get the ball rolling. Thanks for positive encouragement!

I had a channel but started making videos again a month ago. For the things I love doing and inspire me. Like a video diary for me to preserve the memories. I feel so inspired to make videos and to be able one day to go back and watch them. I barely have 100 subscribers but for just one month over 50 people subscribed and they are so supportive. Thank you for the video, it's so real and inspiring!

Gabe, I’ve been watching you for a long time now. I love your videos and have seen you and your family grow. You’ve inspired me with my financial journey, now I need to let you inspire me to be quiet and create. I was a professional videographer and photographer for 3 years. I have since let my equipment collect dust. People say I have the skillset to go far as a creator, but for whatever reason I just can’t pull the trigger. I've run a RU-vid channel since 2007. Of course, when your topics are North Dakota, fountain pens, mechanical typewriters, and the occasional deep dive into a topic or obscure books...you don't get many views. But I have some regular commenters that I interact with and my channel has grown. I'm glad I started it and that I've kept with it, even if I don't get that many views.

I’ve been in and out of the youtube channel space because of lots of life changes trying to find balance with being a new mama. Appreciate this video a lot because I have given up since becoming a mom but youtube has always been what I believed to be what can give me not only flexibility but a place of belonging and sharing with others. Signed up for the class.

Im on 60k subs right now and maybe Im not good enough to tell you one thing. Dont start a gaming channel. Believe me. Lets Plays wont bring you somewhere these days. And if you are able to find a Game you have to burnout yourself, rush your game to produce as many videos as possible as soon as possible. This is how I killed my motivation and thinking about doing a second non gaming channel. But Gabe is right. You have to enjoy the progress but it could be that you lose your way and only think about the next sponsorship, if your next videos is a hit or miss. So yeah, never think about success, think about a channel that motivates you to do this for years and improve yourself. And one thing that everyone thinks about himself: "I dont look good, so I dont have to put my face in the internet". Believe me, many people dont even care how you look, if your video is awesome or helpful. And tbh dont be afraid about your friends or family. You think they will stalk you channel? Make fun of you? Nope. I told some friends about mine and guess what? We never speak about it or any video. Everyone is filled with their own problems and seeking for their answers, they dont even have the time to judge me. But this is just my experience. Go out and create! Gabe is a guy who is totally the right guy to give you the best direction.

Hey Gabe. I just caught your video and I totally enjoyed it and I want to follow you for a while. Especially with the Mansions. However, I don't know if you have heard anything about Hurricane Helene from Florida up through North Carolina (me) and above Virginia. So currently, Wi-Fi is iffy. Subbed. Thanks for the encouragement. I am a young channel, 4 to 5 months old, 74 subs, couple thousand views, tens of thousands of impressions. I too am a Sigma introvert minimalist who is a photographer, screenwriter, musician, and have a gimbal and a Sony A7III. My channel is a faceless true scary story channel. At first I did this for the money prospects, as I am always looking for ways to increase our capital and set up a legacy for our kids. But now that my community is a 74, I feel like I should be giving my all... and I am. I'm a story teller and that's what I'm gonna do, 74 subs or less. In the meantime, I've learned how to edit in DaVinci Resolve, gaining another skill. In any case, I hope I haven't backed myself into a corner, only doing scary stories. I can write any genre. But hey, my name is Mr. Moonlighter... that means I can moonlight! But I wonder if I should ask my audience first right now, at 74 subs, or wait until 1000 subs and then ask.

I love your enthusiasm, Gabe, but a RU-vid channel is not in the cards for me. I am legally blind. I CAN'T use a camera, do editing, etc. It's too visually challenging. They don't make editing software for people with less than 20% vision. I'll keep on writing books; eventually I'll figure out book marketing!

yeah i started a youtube channel in 2008 and eventually got up to 200 subs lol and then i stopped making creative vids n had too many hiatus moments. editing videos really hurts my brain so thats why i stopped doing some of the more involved vids. i keep meaning to get goin again. its so oversaturated now tho, youtube isnt the world it used to be when i fell in love with it. i come from the late Brookers era

i recently bought a rebounder. Been thinking what if i start a youtube channel about rebounding, then i suddenly wanted an adult outdoor trampoline and didn't find a huge amount of exercises. i am also terribly messy...and will soon get someone to build me made to measure wardrobes. i could actually document my complete mess of a room, and show the journey. so many ideas....i think people are scared to start...and be judged but like you said youtube is just full of variety of interests. I happen to be jobless now and looking for my next contract, so this is the best time to play around and see where it will take me

Had active channels on and off in the last 15 years or so. It's fun to do every once in a while. It's even more fun when there is no intention of going commercial or hitting a certain milestone. Ideally never look at the stats at all. When it's only about making whatever you want to make, as a hobby. The money aspect ruins any passion, sooner or later. I also had the chance of getting into some commercial bands making a few thousand per year. I'm glad I declined, seeing what those who accepted have to deal with.

I was getting paid for my RU-vid channel with over 2,500 videos. It consumed my entire life and the no likes plus no comments made me take a long break from it

Man, I can barely keep up with all the stuff I have to do, let alone my actual hopes and dreams. I’m a musician, and having to think about how to choreograph and set up cameras and film while I’m just trying to get into a free flow state writing music just can’t and doesn’t happen. I do so much less creation since content creation became a necessity. Adding content creation on top of that puts this added pressure on me that makes it infinitely harder for me to get anything done because I suddenly have to make myself and my life “entertaining content”. It sucks. I don’t want this. I never wanted any of this. I never wanted to be a host of my own fk’n life. I just wanted to live it. Now it feels like I can’t even life it unless I’m the main character of some bullshit reality tv show that no one wanted or asked for.

I started one doing guitar playthroughs and such (not this email account) with almost no traction. I kind of just want to play I don't want to talk which sounds like a hopeless type of channel, looks like I have to incorporate talking somehow

Let's face it. Making videos for RU-vid is not for everyone. And it is not true that you can make videos about everything and make great profit. There are particular topics where you can expect to make serious earnings. But most of them are under competition. I would agree only with the fact that making a RU-vid channel is great for developing personal skills.
