that part at 1:39 when Tom goes all Vito Corleone for a second is priceless. What a reverent, wonderful nod to a classic and what a skilled, effortless actor.
Every now and then, in a movie or an interview, one gets the sense at how good an impressionist Hanks is, that if he wanted to do it, he could do it a lot more. I'm reminded of a Dustin Hoffman interview I saw once in which he was discussing his pre-fame roommates Robert Duvall and Gene Hackman, and he briefly tossed off this Robert Duvall impression (the charged-up Duvall, the Apocalypse Now/Network type, not the highly reserved Godfather type) that was just perfect.
I want to marry a woman who loved The Godfather. Not only is Tom Hanks doing lines funny, but I love how casually Kinnear responds to knowing what she meant
@@internetsummoner Are you yankin' my crank? Well nobody spells Mafioso like Mario Puzo. And if you do love the Godfather, chances are you'll probably love the rest of his works too.
@@seymourbuttsesquire3252 I read it and felt it was a waste of my time. To me, the movie was better. The book has some long parts that are absolutely irrelevant to the whole story.
In real life those laptops Weigh 30 pounds each, and the battery last 15 minutes, also, the internet is so slow that it would be faster if they sent the messages trought physical mail.
WTF are you talking about. Dial-up was already more than enough for IMs. I should know; I was already at university when this movie came out and was already surfing the web every chance I got. ICQ was my jam and I was chatting with people halfway around the world without any problems.
I read a book from The Godfather, they sticked a Tom Hanks's quoted about The Godfather is "The Godfather combines to all the knowledges, The Godfather is the answer for any question."
Im a man. I LOVE the godfather(Der Pate in German). But Im also a romantic sucker. Love movies and TV series of such kind. In the end we are all humans and love a bit of all. Just remember that ladies and watch a great movie with your man. And if he wants to go to a game on sunday and leave you behind with the kids just say; "A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man" ;)
L 💌 V 📧 . The wonder is : Everybody sees it, feels it and dreams about it and then "It's not personal it's Business". Norah Ephron clearly was a woman, Wonderwoman 📝.
Why does Joe just assume that the problem with her business is competition? Aren’t there other factors that could come into play, such as funding, operating costs, etc.?
@SG1Mitchell I loooooove The Godfather but unfortunately my husband is the only man created that can take it or leave. I have no one to whip my quotes out on.....but he was sweet enough to get me the box set so he is not so bad.
I'm not really a fan of chick flicks or rom-coms. This is one of two rom-coms I can stand[ I can't think of the name of the other one] I didn't like that Sleeping Seattle or whatever movie they were in before, HATED Pretty Woman, and I will not pay to see a rom-com at the movies or online. LOVED The Godfather and the 2nd one as well. 3 was so so. I would prefer gangster/mob movies.
This film is about a woman who has a small business and is destroyed by a large chain that sells everything at a low price. She, however, falls in love with the owner of that chain. Imagine with all this nonsense of political correctness what would happen if a movie like this were made right now.
Calm down. It's just a movie, and it's only referencing the godfather. A lot of movies reference others. It's not rocket science to know that. Everyone knows the godfather is better than this anyway.
lol I know this comment is 2 years old but for what it's worth the person you responded to was referencing the court scene in godfather part II where tom shouts "this court owes my client an apology!"
@@MrArtmundus I don't think that's what "going to the mattresses" means. "Going to the mattresses" might be the phrase for going to war, but I think it's more of a reference to the heightened risks of the situation. When you "go to the mattresses", you band together tight, pull up the drawbridge, and only leave the safety of the castle in numbers to do whatever it is you have to while the hostilities are on. People are holed up together, sleeping on mattresses on the floor if they have to. Nobody's just walking around conducting business as usual like nothing's going on. Admittedly, it's been a while since I've seen The Godfather, but that was my impression of what that meant.
