wish I had known this back when we built our home. It's over 25 years old now so not possible. Lots of work wiring things now thru walls already built. We didn't have any networking wiring done back then.

I see that a lot. Heck I see it in new houses. That why I set up my channel. To help so everyone gets wired.

I’ve heard of a new term, for network head end, structured wiring. Like the difference between spoke and hub set up.

Good video ! Don't forget If you have one jack in a room, might as well ad a coax & a second ethernet, nothing wrong with extra cables for future proof. When i used to do pre-build home wiring, i always wired 1-2 wires per floor in the ceiling for ap's. Also after you terminate, verify your cable's and make sure they are 100% tested.

So true. Good advice.

There might also be an option, depending on the layout of the home, to have multiple switches around the house and have those connected to a central switch. Those cables could be a generation ahead to avoid congestion. This might be needed if the cables would otherwise be longer than the maximum length according to the cable spec.

Valid point. We typically don't run into cable length issues in homes unless they are very large. Going with a larger cable like Cat6a can definately help futureproof though...

In your opinion people in the south that gets hot are garages okay for network head ends and NVR for cameras?

A garage definitely isn’t my first choice, especially if it gets pretty hot in there. (And dusty). They can work. You may have to rig up some kind of airflow or way to keep it cool in that situation.

I’m a homeowner renovator. Can you recommend some kind of device that bores holes and runs cables?

Im not sure I’m following what you mean by boring and running the cable.

Good Video, why you recommend Cat 6 instead of CAT 6A which allows for future proofing?
@ethernetblueprint
@ethernetblueprint 10 месяцев назад
That is a good point. I was simply stating that that Cat6 is the standard and will work in most homes today. Cat6a or even Cat7 are definately great options for anyone pulling cabling and do offer some advantages.

why not cat8? or fiber
