i'm not an nomad/ rv'er lifestyle... but i saw this place on the side of I-70 called HYK Outdoors at a town called Kingdom City, Mo... looks like they do custom builds but specialize in off road campers.... like i say, i'm not an rv'er but i'd say shop around some might find something even better... the small shops have their heart in the build...

I urge all to stop buying the overly expensive campervans. Anything over $100k is ridiculous. If we stop buying, companies will take note and look into decreasing their costs and their profit margins. Covid gave them the excuse to gouge us with their pricing!

Hey I bought a 2002 Chevrolet van. It costs $3,800. I am currently building it out. At 74 it is not easy but I am doing it. They guy I bought it from is a Chevrolet mechanic and it runs great. I love it. I am painting it blue. It now has a bed. I will put in a toilet, shower, and kitchen. It is great. I love it.

In April 2021, I bought a used Ram Promaster 2500 with only 2,000 miles on it from a guy who had it built-out by Wayfarer only a few months earlier. I paid $50,000 total. We drove it cross-country during Covid, from Maine to Oregon and back. We put on 17,000 miles and visited or drove through 40 states. Nothing, I mean nothing, went wrong. The build is dreamingly simple. Having it tuned-up, or otherwise worked on, is simple and affordable--there are Dodge dealers everywhere. The front wheel drive, 19-miles a gallon, and ability to go and stay anywhere, underscore its flexibility. If you add a Goal Zero (or other brand) Lithium battery, cassette toilet and fridge, you're "gold." Best of all, when I sold it, I got $5K more than I paid.

@@debbiedebbie9473 No cancer involved, thankfully. The seller was in the restaurant business and there was a shift in Covid and he needed to devote his time 100% to his restaurant business, making the van available.

I did a no build mini van for weekend trips. I rolled out insulation padding over my carpet. I stained and finished a 4x8 sheet of high quality plywood. On the edges all around I put a 1x1 piece of wood. Then I brought my wood house furnitur and used U hooks to affix to the 1x1s. Done. I didn't put one hole in the mini van. If you are living in it full time that's a whole other thing but for a weekender....protect your floors with a plywood base and SECURE everything for safety in the event of a crash. It took me two days and $300. total.

We have been Wayfarer Van owners for over 7 years. We couldn't be happier. We have visited 49 states and all the Canandian provinces. We couldn't be happier with our van. It's simple and perfect.

In 2018 I brought my Promaster into Ian's shop at 8AM and drove out with a completed campervan at noon. I have never looked back. In those days there weren't a lot of customizations, so over the years I added a fan, Wabasto, solar, swivel seats, etc. I love "Violet the campervan." Best of all, after 5 years she is still solid, nothing has failed. I bet most RV owners can't say that. The van is perfect for one, and pretty good for two (if you like the person). I have traveled all over the country in Violet and I love the fact that she fits easily into a regular parking space. The Wayfarer build is basic, sturdy wood and metal. I love the modular design as I recently built a new kitchen (with my expert friend, Tom's help) to accommodate my "all-electric even when boondocking" lifestyle. It was simple to remove the old kitchen and to mount the new kitchen in the same space. I highly recommend Wayfarer.

"Affordable " is VERY subjective. That van is not Affordable for the majority of people. Having said that , nice van, and the modular adaptability is a good concept.

This is absolutely incredible. I did a ford Transit med roof buildout and let me say it is worth $20,000 to let someone do it. It took me 2 years and lots of learning and more than $20,000 sadly, I had it completed about 3 months when a semi slide on the ice and wiped out the side. I wanted another one but so expensive I bought this stupid 21 ft trailer and I hate it. Literally hate it. I am going to figure out how to sell that trailer and maybe do this next year. This is awesome. I love no winterizing. Thank you for sharing...

Thanks for the show! This is exactly the kind of build that I'd want; it's great. The water container solution is the best solution for areas where plumbing can freeze. And the fact that the floor plan is flexible is ideal. Yeah, and the best info is that it's an affordable build🙋🏼‍♀️

I have owned so many RV's and they always break. This is why now I am in a Mini Van and love it. No systems means they will not break. When the price of Cargo Vans come down I will totally consider this option.

It sounds like a great setu and affordable.I have something similar to that. I have an F-150 Ford truck with a lightweight Bel Air camper shell on top. It weighs about 550 lb. I have turned it into a camper to suit all my needs .I do not have an indoor shower. I have a solar shower and tent. I prefer just gallons of water and not having any holding tanks. It makes it a lot easier. I also have a Bluetti power station with suitcase solar panels. I do not like fixed solar panels. That way I can park my truck and camper in the shade and put my solar panels in the sun. It works great for me. To me, the more simple the better. My bucket toilet with horse pellets works great. Good luck with your decision it sounds like a great van set up.

I did a Wayfare van 2 years ago and never have been more happy with there build. Nicest people you will ever deal with. Have even upgrade to there cabinets when they started offering them. They shipped them to me and install was a piece of cake!

I am so sorry to hear about Big Boy. That is an amazing van. A trailer is more dangerous I think because if someone or worse, a group, is outside of your trailer day or night, you can’t just get into your drivers seat and leave. You are trapped in the trailer and I would hate to call the police when I didn’t really have to and they were just fooling around but how can you know when something that seems harmless turns hazardous when someone becomes bad and scary and the others may leave. Scary movies have taught me to be afraid.

I have a camper van and my shower is in the back doors with a wrap around tub shower curtain. I use rare earth magnets to secure the curtain. Even in high winds they will hold. I think I use 25 or 50 pound magnets and put them on top of the shower curtain and no scratches. Use the magnets, I have a lot and it’s been tested and works!

Wafarer has been around for a long time since the beginning of all this van life. They use to use recylced jeans for insulation. I like sheep's wool. These guys rock! They will connect you with a van as well and go pick it up for you.

Kickass premium shower tent with a roof for rainy days works great to shower outside and no holding tanks needed showering outside. The best of both worlds. I like mine anyway. Yes I am a nomad also.

This was a fantastic video. Thank you so much. I will be checking Wayfarer out very soon. Nice to know they are out there. This may sounds silly but one notable piece was the small, right sized faucet. Whenever I see the huge, designer faucets in some of these overpriced rigs, it makes me laugh. Thank you for posting this - subscribed😁. I'd given up on the idea of campervans as out of my range and I didn't like the idea of trying to maintain multiple complex systems. This sounds much simpler and about right. The "tall person" comment is particularly important for me (Although I'm shrinking as I get older). Safe travels.

Amazing content ! It’s so difficult to find a van let alone someone to build it out. Dealers want too much for the vans themselves and are charging 30 percent more than MSRP. I’ve considered buying brand new and building out later but I would have to have full coverage insurance on a regular work van at regular insurance cost. Having it fully converted to an RV saves so much on insurance since recreational vehicles have way cheaper rates versus a commercial cargo van cost of insurance.
