someone who works in armed security, this is standard for police officer's to make sure that we are legit armed security officer's due to other individuals impersonating a police officer, this is not harassment. anyone can purchase black uniforms, badges and obtain sidearms and state they are security when they are not.

@@practicaledc2273 Honestly it's best that way. Used to get some real shady people and guards from other security companies trying to poach contracts from us, come up an ask us if we were licensed and insured, I'm guessing so that they could file complaints with the management company to get the contract pulled. Told them I only show my credentials to cops and enforcement agents from the BSIS (CA's security licensing agency). The cops ended up regularly checking our creds anytime they noticed a new guard. Got a special wallet with all my BSIS docs and shit specifically for it. Cop rolls us, asks for your info, you give it to 'em, then ya'll both pop a chew then shoot the shit for like 30 minutes while they do some reports. I miss it sometimes. True Story: I had to provide security for a high profile client's jet airplane at a Houston area airport. However, I was designated to the perimeter of the fence and was to observe it from the outside of the airport property. Of course, some person contacted the police anonymously and all of a sudden there is a Law Enforcement officer that rolls up behind my vehicle. I get out in full uniform and address all of her questions. She seems very to be a bit on edge and it made me feel a certain way but I maintained my composure. I did not have all the details of the client information, however I just offered to call my supervisor to answer anymore questions she may have. There were a couple of instances were I did have my hands in my pocket, ready to get my cell phone, but she took that as a threat and put her hand on her weapon. So I followed her orders to get my hand out of my pocket. Long story short, we contacted my supervisor and he cleared everything up. I was instructed by the Law Enforcement Officer to not stay stationary at this location but I can ride around and make periodic checks on the jet plane. My supervisor agreed to the terms and that is exactly what I did.
@shadowhunter388
@shadowhunter388 2 года назад
That response is actually normal. You hop out of a vehicle when officers are approaching you to make contact with you, that makes them super on edge because on their training, when you jump out, theres a very real possibility you're either going to flee or draw a weapon on them. The hands in the pockets is also another officer safety issue. That officer may not know if you have a weapon or not. She doesn't know you personally or know your background or what you do. People need to remember that when a cop talks to you. They aren't psychics who are supposed to know you inside and out. You're a random off the street until they gauge who you are by interaction. Plus in our industry, you can literally have anything. From ghetto talking soup sandwiches to professionals.

While technically I agree, in some circumstances it may not be a bad idea to notify the local PD you are working in the area. Even other / outside PD's notify the local PD when they are operating in their area. It's just a courtesy. I'd put it like this, if you are doing unarmed security but it's mostly inside a dwelling or private property than no biggie, that occurs all day every day, no need to notify PD. But if your are doing armed exterior patrols AND it's as new account, maybe it's a new area for a start up security company etc., then maybe it's a good idea to extend a courtesy and give the local PD a heads up. Again, I agree you don't have to, that is and should never be a requirement, what occurs on private property is literally no business of the police aka government agents. To end things on a positive note, most police welcome a security presence and will be cordial like these two were.

3:58 cop said to call the police department and notify them you have arrived to fulfill your contract with a client by being on your post. Ummm that’s not a requirement by the state. The state does not require P.P.O. and Guards to call the police every time you arrive at a property. Possibly as a courtesy but it’s not at all enforceable by police. Otherwise the police department would be getting hundreds of phone calls every hour about security arriving at every property. That Cop must be a rookie and needs to be trained about what security can and cannot do. It’s wise when starting a new property to carry a photo copy in a binder of the agreement between the security company and client. You can show that to the police if they have questions. It’s obvious the neighbor called the police and was just being a Good Samaritan. Neighbor Watch should always be encouraged. The security officer should carry in the binder a copy of the P.P.O. License & Insurance or Bond. The security should always have their Guard Card on their person whenever on duty or working as a private security guard. Since this is a temporary standing post posted signs doesn’t seem necessary but if it was long term it would be wise to have the company post a sign stating this property is patrolled by ‘Company Name’ PPO license number, phone number and applicable trespassing penal codes that meet the licensing authority guidelines or state statute for signs. This would include letter sizes and colors and backgrounds so that the sign is legal and can be enforced. In this specific situation a binder should be kept on site and passed down to each person coming on shift at the shift debrief. Otherwise this was a great police encounter. As a courtesy it would be nice to let the officers know your are recording on a body camera. If they ask why you are recording it’s because you have a high profile client and the owner of the security company uses footage to manage his or her staff.

Having Worked armed security myself you got put in a bad situation, working for one individual post outside his premises..most of the security I did was in a gated community, the property owners kept security there around the clock, but everyone know what was going on only time police interacted with us is when they stopped to come to gate and talk about nothing are ask if we were ok..but security companies do this where they just give you some random job and have you fend for yourself...been through it before.

Had this happen while we were serving ATM. You could see the person who called just standing across the street like they did something. Officers rolled up knew exactly who we were and just stood around BSing. One officer walked across the road and told the caller. And the caller got pissed. Must have been embarrassing for them. Clearly marked patrol car and I was very clearly marked. The called watched us use keys to open the machine then called 911.

The neighbors called and stated that there was a armed intruder. I understand that he had security credentials, however, many criminals have security uniforms and company credentials. These officers were respectful, asked the questions they needed to answer, so the next and following police shifts know there is an armed guard on premises. These officers did their due diligence. Under normal circumstances, usually the security agency will alert the Police Dispatch about the use of armed security at a residence. -Armed security at a residence is very rare. ... It happens, just rare

I own an armed security company. Not gonna say which state, but definitely a liberal-run one. The cops in my area are legally allowed to ask for a guard card. But that's the extent of it. Inquiring about clients is a civil matter, therefore LEOs aren't allowed to investigate such matters. They can ask all the questions they want, but I advise my team not to answer questions pertaining to private matters. Also, the DA has in small words, banned police from asking for guard cards, even though the current law says they can. Too much harassment from police has led attorneys to advise not even asking anymore. We also have to register as an entity, which elevates our position in society. Thus, police don't bother us anymore. This situation here appears to be an alarm or call-in from neighbors, and the cops are investigating and came in contact with this guard.

You gain it from actually observing it first hand, and being able to testify to it. Anything else is just hypothetical nonsense. In this case, they had no reasonable articulable suspicion... So, technically, the S/O could have refused (regardless of bureaucratic red tape of regulative restriction, pertaining to his license) and would be covered in his civil liberties, civilly... had he chosen to litigate if they pushed it... @@APR1125 Are we referring to this video or Florida? Apparently in California there is a law or regulation that requires licensed security guards to present identification upon demand from LE. Obviously, Florida doesn't have that law. But again, the L&P statute is pretty broad, and despite many attacks in courts throughout the state, it has been upheld. A good case could be made that a reasonable officer could see L&P in a situation in which neighbors have called to report a suspicious person that they have never seen before standing outside a residence, especially if the neighbor knows the homeowner to be "high-profile". And of course, in Florida, if a G licensed guard is openly displaying a firearm, such an action is illegal in most cases absent a valid D and G license. The law is nuanced, and that is why law enforcement has to keep up with Court rulings, case law and changes in statutes.
