they did 7-8 takes and he went all out in every single one. Also, when shooting the reactions Jack had wrapped already so Rob Reiner let Kevin Pollack do Jacks part and crushed it so hard that Reiner forgot it was Pollack in the daily’s 😂

I remember working on a court scene at two oclock in the morning, on a sound stage in Toronto. It was pitch black outside, but the funny part, with the set design and lighting, in the soundstage, it was morning. However, it did not feel like morning, and everyone was exhausted after 13 hours of shooting. Just listening to Aaron speaking about the long hours on set brings back many memories.

Rob Reiner was Aaron Sorkin's Max Perkins. A masterclass in rewrite. Fortuitous for everyone, but mostly for Aaron Sorkin.
@FanboyFilms
@FanboyFilms 4 года назад
According to Wikipedia it was William Goldman who did an uncredited rewrite of Sorkin's play. Having read the play and seen the movie, the biggest change in the movie is that Caffey goes into the final scene against Jessup with no evidence and has "get the truth out of him somehow." In the play Markinson did not kill himself and was set to testify and Caffey also had the second tower log as evidence which in the movie they said Jessup was able to make disappear. Most of the dialogue and such was intact, that was likely seen as Sorkin's strongest contribution.

@@FanboyFilms In everything I've read by William Goldman about the making of movies he has nothing but praise for Rob Reiner's work in every aspect of production from instinct for script ideas to individual camera angles.

Sorkin would write "The American President" for Rob Reiner in 1995, that was basically the genesis for "The West Wing". Buy my favorite Sorkin series is not "The West Wing", btw, but the great "Spots Night", that unfortunately few people watched.

Cruise in Rainman AND Born on the Fourth of July. I think Cruise got snubbed at the Oscars for BOTFOJ because America didn't want to hear or wasn't ready to hear Ron Kovic's message. Cruise's performance in that film was uncanny. Grossly underrated.

I wish Rose had followed up with Sorkin to ask, "what _specifically_ was the improvement in the screenplay's showdown? You said the movie showdown was 'real' - how? You said the play's showdown was mere 'pyrotechnics' and 'faking it' -- how?" He really was not a very good interviewer.
@Vanirvis
@Vanirvis 8 месяцев назад
I think literal pyrotechnics to compensate for the acting, like a thundering devil, red lights, fire, etc, “you can’t handle the truth..” As opposed to relying on strong acting.
