I would agree with greasing the knotter if you only have one tube of grease. If you have some left over grease the pto shaft and cv joint. If you still have some left over grease the front pivot on the front axel

Awesome video! That stuff looks amazing. I appreciated you taking the time to explain your thinking with the alfalfa. We don’t see much alfalfa at all in New England, and I’ve only ever done grass hay. I don’t envy the leaf shatter calculus, but good job making some great stuff and making the right call!

If grass was the only thing that sold around here, that’s all I would do😂 but there’s enough of a horse market around here that alfalfa still brings a nice premium so I guess it’s worth the headache sometimes

So what’s the reason not much alfalfa is grown up there, just curious? Do you have many dairies around there?

@@jakefromsteakfarm4177 as far as I can tell it just doesn’t like our climate and/or gets outcompeted by grasses quickly. Some dairies do plant it and chop it, but I think the stands don’t last very long. (Winters too harsh, maybe?). Our hay drying weather is fairly challenging too - just not really possible to make dry hay without working it a good bit, so that might have something to do with it too. Enough wet ground, heavy dew, and tight weather windows that if I was trying alfalfa it’d be all stems by the time I baled it 😂. Thanks for comparing notes, I’m genuinely curious about all of this. And keep up the good work, really appreciate your channel and sharing your story.

why is silo king safer than bufferd proprionic acid?

At the end of the day, buffered acid is an “acid” and should be treated as one. Many studies say it’s safe, others not so much. I would rather use SiloKing because its a blend of enzymes that hinders the growth of undesirable organisms that cause mold, helps break down and unlock more energy within the feed, making it a more digestible and usable feed. I’ve baked hay up to %25 and it cured just as well as hay baled at %10-15. Everyone had their preference, and every operation is different. We just choose to use SiloKing when we look at the benefits.

@@jakefromsteakfarm4177 ok you gave me your preference, But did not explain why its safer. proprionic acid is used in the food and drug industries for human consumption, cheese, sliced store bought bread and ibuprofen are just a few examples of what its used in that people consume. I find it funny that people will state its unsafe for horse feed while they are eating a ham and cheese sandwich and took 2 advil because they have headache and never new the ate proprionic acid themselves. I worked in a chemical plant for 12 years and trust me all acids are not the same and do not need to be treated as such. The word acid scares people I get it but at the end of the day facts are facts and opinions are opinions. Can you give me any example of where silo king is used in the food and drug industries for human consumption? I get tired of hearing people claim proprionic acid is unsafe to preserve hay with out any facts to back there opinion, this gives hay producers that use it a bad rap. I am not trying to argue with you but your statement about acid is a punch in the face to any hay producer that uses it and at the end of the day we are all trying to make the best quality and safest hay we can for our customers and there animals

Anybody tell you it don’t matter if you bake in the heat of the day is full of shit humidity at 12% cost you a lot of quality trust somebody that would think baling 400 acres is like mowing the lawn

Don’t know where you are getting your info at about bailing in the mid day heat but there full of sh/:t. I run 400 acres of hay it doesn’t matter
