As a young man sometimes we think we know everything and have to much pride to ask for advice. It doesnt show weakness or inability when you ask someone who knows, it shows strength and an eagerness to learn. Keep on teachin us young guys buckin!
On the other end as a young man we can sometimes feel like we don't know what we need, most of the time it's true, ALWAYS ask for help when you need it, all you've got to lose is inexperience and the what you gain is the experience.
Really cool buckin. So cool to see a man that's top of his profession stop and take the time to help a young man in the way you did. Not just answering questions but physically showing talking it out. Putting what they did in the wood seeing and feeling the results. Jordan will never forget that. Ever. Well done. Very well done.
What a treat! Always appreciate the fellowship and knowledge sharing on your channel Buckin! Jordan sound like a sharp man that will do well and make a name for himself! Dang, that IRONHORSE power saw Rips!!
Hello Jordan glad to meet you. Oh heck yeah buddy you will love the raker gauge. Hi powersaw Rob and dad. Always love seeing you on the channel. Great video Buckin always sharing the knowledge. Always love the MACBONGOS. lovin it. Love ya brother. 🌲❤🌲✊🪓
What an outstanding young man to accept your advice with enthusiasm, instead of the typical response of “I know”. This young man will go far in life. Heck, I even learned something new, which I typically do from all your videos. Thanks for sharing Buckin’. Stay safe, be kind and love always wins ❤️🪓🪵🌲
Your so so right about learning. I remember one time on a average day I was running sawmill, this guy came up in the saw cab he did not say to much then he started telling my why dont ya rotate this log such a way as to go under neatly this not , not the way I was doing it. I hate to admit it the guy was right. I learned that ya can do something wrong for a long time. Ever since that day I always knew i.could learn something every day , no matter how mutch of a legend in my own mind I thought I was. Love wins.
I've learned so much in the past 4 years since I retired from watching your video's and I am knocking on 70 so your never to old to learn and I love buckin fire wood and been doing it since 1977 but I am doing it a lot easier and faster since I learned to properly sharpen my chain. I help my 3 neighbors cut fire wood and they can't believe how good my poulin 3700 counter vibe cuts. thank you
This is why I watch your videos buckin. I learn something new every video. If I don’t learn something new about saws, cutting or tree work.. I learn something new from your loving wisdom
Just came across this vid on your channel. Was blown away to hear that Jordan’s family came from Prussia mid to late 1800’s. My family did as well. Very cool 👍. Definitely something you don’t hear often. Anywho, love the channel and the work and detail you put in to it. Learning lots 🍻
Im a 24 plus year electrician and 3 years into cutting trees to heat my house... and I tell the young and new to my trade or the trades " the man that says he knows everything knows nothing at all..."
Gotta love a guy who shares his raker gauges and takes a minute to play his gas cans! When you can hear the rhythm of the universe you just need to drum along sometimes!!! 😂👍. Peace & Love...God Bless!!!
Great job Buckin! Hey Jordan! Glad that you found the raker gauge! You want the new Hyway titan-nickasil 52mm topend for that 372... it takes them from a 70.5cc saw to 77.5cc that’s what you just felt in the iron horse saw ... plus it’s got a nice little logger porting on it! 😂👍. It gives that additional yank so that they don’t stall out when they hook up!!! Stay safe... if you need any saw help I’m in the US... 👍😁
Shout out to Jordan! He seems like a great young man, very well spoken and focused. What a blessing for him to spend some time with the "master of the craft"! 👍👍👍 Love you all...❤️❤️❤️ Lieutenant Bradley
Wait for it, waayt foer it, whaayyet fer iit, yeah, there it is. The ending of this video is cool drumming excellence. Tin hand drums with drum kit overdub, that is freaking awesome possum. The wonders of modern editing. Buckin jams with Buckin. Absolutely smashing, men, women and children. Everyone have the best life positive possible because it iz what you make it. Ride the ball and balance out your yinz and yangs.
So nice to hear that your family has been in the same place for so long. My dad's family arrived in Tas about 1820, Makes my children seventh gen I think. The Palawa and other Australian first nations people here refer to it as "Spirit of place". My people (as a generalisation, not in any specific way that I am aware of) did some horrific stuff here. My point, If I 'feel ties like the iron chains to this place' (like some of my ancestors wore when they arrived), what must they feel? Now I think I see your connection to your home and its trees and your respect for these things and your land's peoples. Kudos.
OF, that came across so poorly, in that I am not aware of any specific incidents that my forebears were involved in. That doesn't mean that I, oh, crap, my post was meant to respect the traditional owners of our land and to say that the depth offering I have for this place after 20 years must be nothing to their spirit of place. Listening and patience . Sorry
Jordan, you and Buckin live in an idyllic surrounding area. I'm sure you know this already. Just wanted to say howdy from a Buckin fan. Your saw sounds good, did the magic hands of Buckin improve the longevity of your power saw. Seems like good observations were made. All the best to you and your families. Stay safe Stay strong Be kind
Hello Billy and everyone My lord what a busy day I've just finished up painting my room lol. Now to let it all cure an dry tommrow wash the baseboards mask them off and paint them too haha and then all done.
First time on your channel, won’t be the last. Thank you for the lesson on filing the rakers, I was wondering what the gauges were for. Also just goes to show you, we are never to old to learn something new! Thanks again. God bless!
My 20 year old 372 doing the exact same thing… time for a new carb by the sounds. Mine is rich all the time in the wood no matter what I do with the jets or if chain is razor sharp it just won’t lean out.
Like what you Said BR open mind too learn. It always nice learn from those willing to teach or share knowledge. I'm sure some guys are like here this guy again. Lol It takes sometimes do it couple time to stick in the head . That or person here let get this done hands on best way for me to learn.
Buckin have you ever tried using semi chisel chain or do you always use full chisel. I had one of the old saw shop guys have me try it because I tend to skid them to the road for firewood. I was wondering because I seem to sharpen the full better than the semi and it just throws bigger chips. Thanks for showing us younger guys some tips!!
Yeah semi chisel is better for “dirty” wood… it holds an edge better in dirty wood than full chisel…. But full chisel cuts faster but dulls quicker and In my opinion it does sharpen better and easier
I was just on the phone with a local tree service company, they said they can almost guarantee me a spot on one of their crews for a summer 2022 internship. I won't be doing stuff like this for my actual career, but I'm really lookin forward to it!
Dad's family came to wv from Germany in the early-mid 1700s, his mom's tribe had been here since their first memory. I use a stihl 2 in 1. Yeah, i know but once i got used to it, i can make a chain deadly. My biggest issue presently is not taking off too much raker.
Just wanted to mention cleaning a air filter in gas . If it's a felt type it's probably OK, but a paper filter no , it will dry and plug up where if you started I with the filter off , and the put it on while it was running it would kill the engine, I've done it on a customer's!!!!! But anyway an awesome video and as always informative. And Iron horses saw SWEET !!!!!!!
My dad always did this with his old Mc, I recently got it tuned, I no longer need to. I don't think it is good for the filter long term, ie 60 years or so.
Hi folks, maybe check out Stihls raker gauge models: FL 1 to FL 5 (1/4"P to .404"), they are file-hard, just got a few of them the other day. Hard/Softwood-Setting and engraved writings, quite good! As a mechanic I say they are worth the try, costing about 4€ over there in Europe. Have a good day!
file right rakers from the left left rakers from the right just like filen the chain and flip carlton plate per side. they are an excellent tool . you can use them for filen the cutters but i always push down to hard and will dull your file . . the carb had either a leaky belch plug or like u said just worn out im thinken Thanks Excellent job we need to teach the young ones no dought. . we found out alot of times the hardway. lol
How do you spell kind and mentor all in one? Buckin Billy Ray... good one buddy. And good on Jordan for visiting with you, a lot of maturity for 25... be safe out there Jordan. have a good one and MAGKD! 🐶
Once I was removing the coating off an old bass drum with a heat gun and it caught fire. I had to pick up the flaming drum, carry it out the shed door and throw it on the lawn so the place didn't burn down. It singed my hair, eyebrows and stubble.
Nice to have met you Jordan. That buckin is the man to take your saw to for tuning issues. Plenty of good company at the buckin ranch today. Thanks for the video buckin. Love ya buddy take care.
Does anyone know where one can purchase those old Carlton rakers gauges? I still have a couple that I purchased back in the 90's and they almost feel like spring steel similar to the metal used in feeler gauges a file will not hardly touch it.
One take away I get from this is I'm not the only one around here that has projects that are unfinished! Time to finish them!!!!! Remember, this too shall pass, one day at a time...
love your channel would be awesome if you wanted to take a road trip to pa and cut some big hard wood with us. cutting some big read oak/white oat/ cherry and maple. little diff cutting style than you show in your vids
Hey buckin I've got a holtzforma g372xp and was wondering what size bar you would recommend for it. I've got a 28 inch bar with 3/8 .058 chain but it likes to bog a lot. Or would I need to tune it.
find out where yer jets are by turning them in til they seat one at a time,, to me it sounds like yer hi jet is 1 3/4 turn out,, should be around one , yer bogg will go away
I saw the Carlton File O Plate on Ebay I dont know if they are the same quality as the old ones? Just watched the newest video from Guilty of Treeson and he was showing where WCS now has a raker gauge similar to the old Carltons.
