We have merv 13 because I was worried merv 16 would put too much stress on the system. Is this a valid concern?

Are they supposed to run every hour or does it depend on temperate/climate outside?

I'm curious to know how the owner would know what the correct setting would be? Is there a test that can be done or does it say in the manual to set it to 30mins for a small family or 45mins for a large family etc.?

Hi Paul! We actually measure the fresh air flow rate at the commissioning of the system and mark the recommended setting that meets the ASHRAE ventilation standard for residential homes. This is based on the square footage and number of bedrooms in the home. The owner can certainly adjust for more or less, but the recommended level is indicated.

What’s the recommended number?? Plz help by answering that my house is single story 4br house it feels humid in here I’m not sure what the setting is supposed to be at

Hi- if you’re living in an Addison Home, the optimum ventilation rate should have been set at move in. If you don’t know the setting we would be happy to come out and check it. If you’re not in an Addison Home and have a fresh air system, the system airflow should be measured to set the ideal rate based on the size of your home. Please note since you mentioned humidity, the fresh air system does not control humidity - not to be confused with a dehumidification system.

Says MERV 16 but there is a MERV 11 filter in there...

Good catch!!!! You are right - we actually use a MERV 11 during construction to protect the air handler and ductwork. Then we switch to the MERV 16 filter at the homeowner move-in. We will typically go through a couple of MERV 11 filters during construction.
