I truly understand the need for storage but I really don’t like the idea of putting storage where you need a stool or ladder to reach it. For starters, you either need room to store the means to reach the items, or you have to get the stool/ladder from somewhere else every time you need to access that storage. Or, worse, people will be clambering on the fixtures to reach them. But the main issue is that a bathroom is a particularly dangerous place to fall, with all those hard, protruding fixtures. Things that aren’t used most days don’t need to be stored in the bathroom.
I completely agree, just because you have high wall space does not mean you should use it all. Young children will try to climb fixtures and the elderly may not be able to reach such storage. I think having floating shelves above a toilet is positively dangerous, hard to access, with nothing to stop items rolling off the shelf. Plus hygiene issues, would you really want to dry yourself on a towel that has been stored over the toilet? I would want as much accessible closed cabinet storage as possible.
Don’t like over the toilet storage or high storage which is a hazard. We use our closets for storage and keep the bathroom light, airy and clutter-free while keeping our items put away properly and clean.
On the list of issues for bathrooms are doors. We're finally going to get a pocket sliding door for ours, rather than wasting space with a hinged door.
I appreciate thinking outside the box. The tall shelf at the ceiling is not ideal but when there are no other options in a small house I would do that. Lighting ideas and odd sink solutions are interesting too.
Loved this production and inspo! In old industrial working spaces, men had baskets in their shower room hung from the ceiling. They would raise and lower them to store things.
My bathroom door is 36“ wide! Using the back (inside the only bathroom) for storage too with a thin chrome 20s towel bar at the center and hooks higher up.
OMG, a white bathroom is so essential for putting on makeup. My master bath and my downstairs bath are blue. My kids bathroom is peach. I need to get a painter bc I look green and tell my husband all the time, white walls would change the space. I’ll get to it eventually, but the guest bath is white. My morning is me hauling around my plastic bin full of face and hair products.
One of the few things i don't like about my 1944 traditional home is the single, small bathroom. I am thinking about stucco on the walls and terra cotta floor tile with unlacquered brass fittings. And plenty of lighting, goes without saying.
Hang up after showering n reuse We wash ours only weekly Ur clean when ur drying off, right?? Hang on hooks so they dry, folded on a towel bar doesn’t work
For me a bathroom is pure utilitarian. My very best bathroom was very small master bedroom bath - no tub, easy to clean, everything could only fit one way and it was perfect.
My moms master bath had only a stall shower Wall Mount sink Zero counter Over toilet cabinet to save the day It did have a window tho so that was nice She used a bread board across the sink to be a counter for make up n hot rollers as there was a plug on the medicine cabinet, thankfully.
My daughter has a small bathroom. It's used by two women and two preteen girls. (One is getting into the 'girlie' things young.) I was thinking that using some sort of a sink cover could help their lack of counterspace. They could put it over the sink when they need it, then set it on the floor beside the cabinet to get it out of the way. The other option is to build floor to ceiling cabinets on the wall behind the door. There's a full foot available there and it's being wasted with a tiny cabinet and towel bars. If one of the cabinets had a drop-down door - like a secretary desk - there's another three feet of counterspace if they need it. We could light the cabinet well so they could look 'normal' when they left the house. lol! (That joke actually did make me chuckle!) Love the energy!
My mom used a bread board across her wall mount sink in her tiny master bath to set hot rollers on n then her make up, once they were in her hair. She only had a stall shower too N genius woman had us shower only in her shower so the tub walls in the hall bath stayed clean. I didn’t start showering till jr high when I started nightly washing my hair, which my mom thought ridiculous (LOL). She did have a smaller cabinet over toilet to make up for no sink cabinet plus a medicine cabinet above sink, with a plug at the side. Back when medicine cabinets stuck out a bit from wall. It was rly an efficient bath even if quite small footprint. Nice window in there too (above top of toilet so no one watched u!)
Put in hardwood floors and wallpaper. It will be beautiful! Hardwood is timeless. I’ve had hardwood in my powder room for twenty years and ts done very well!
@@lovly2cu725Absolutely! It’s not a problem. I have had wood floors in my powder room and kitchen for the past twenty years and in a different house for ten years. I wouldn’t put it in a full bath with shower or tub because you get dripping when stepping out. If you do get a few drops of water on the floor you wipe it up, just as you would on tile. You don’t have the slippery floor you have with some tile and wood is much softer on the feet.
LED Motion Sensor Light,Under... www.amazon.com/dp/B085PY9VYV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share Wireless. Rechargeable. Two sizes. Priced well. I use them in the toekick area.
@@annlavine3576 Hi, the under cabinet rechargeable strip lights are linked in her 'March Favourites' (the box with the image of coat hangers) I struggled to find them too.
I like real plants everywhere including the bath. I would not put them on the back of the toilet though as one of the pictures shows. Nobody wants a Ficus crashing down their back at 2 a.m.
Hey Lisa, first: Love your video 😊 Question about neutral colours: Does that mean I can paint my (only and small) bathroom colorful, if I do my makeup in the bedroom? And another question: Would you mind telling us where in Europe you have lived? And how long did you stay there? Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany 😊
@@LisaHoltDesign thank you, Lisa😃. Yes, green one has to avoid. Remember that from another video of yours. We can learn so much from you👍 OK, hope that there would have been Germany too😁
Do you have any kids on how to balance out tall furniture in a small house, specifically dining room/living room. I have a very large hutch. A secretary, a large fireplace, 😢and a large TV on a low console thingy.😅 Help me Lisa! I beg thee.

Some good ideas, but all these places look like no one uses them. For example... Shelves storing 2-4 bath towels but no hand towels or washclothes... no one shows 8-10 bath towels, 8-10 washcloths, and 6 hand towels. Storage things with supports that go to the floor around toilets...great if only females live there but boys and men equals pee spray equals washing toilet inside + outside + hinges, plus washing all floors and walls near the toilet...we don't need to wash pee spray off more bits of stuff. Plants?? Our bathroom is TINY...we need storage space, not a greenhouse. Vertical storage is a good idea, BUT do I want elderly grandparents climbing ladders to reach the top shelves? No one has pets? Where is the litterbox or puppy/toydog peepad? Looks are fine BUT family liveable is essential. edited for typos
This video was sped up too much and it felt unnatural. We don't mind long videos, we could watch you speak all day and I've repeatedly watched old videos when I'm bored or can't sleep. My 7 year old daughter loves design so much that I can't watch a video without her. Don't speed up content, please.
Must be nice to have a massive bathroom where each fixture can have it's own universe. 🙄 You've probably never been to Europe or other countries where space is at a premium.
