I dont use the term, but I thought a girls girl is just someone who is a good friend and doesnt weaponize mysogyny against other women. But it's an unrealistic ideal to expect grown women to always get along and not have conflict. Some women are just more mature than others. A lot of Hollywood women are privileged and have arrested development from being famous so young
@CamrynSuzanne
@CamrynSuzanne 6 месяцев назад
Yeah, I think the weapon is misogyny is a good way to look at it at least for the term girls girl. But I absolutely think it is unrealistic to expect women not to have conflict because we’re all people at the end of the day, you like some people you don’t like some people.
@Gingersnaps_the_pumpkin_kitty
@Gingersnaps_the_pumpkin_kitty 5 месяцев назад
Might not be realistic, but it's still a standard worth having. There will ALWAYS be conflict and it doesn't HAVE to be abusive. Also something being statistically probable to happen eventually isn't the same thing as someone constantly doing the same shit. You shouldn't hang your own personal happiness on it, but you should have the basic expectation that grown ass adults don't keep doing the same stupid harmful shit. There will always be murder and other problems too, that doesn't mean we just quit acknowledging that people aren't meeting the bare minimum. We should help people meet those standards if we can systemically of course. You also just shouldn't stop having the bare minimum standards. Don't obsess, but don't totally ignore it either. Abuse used to be WAY more common, so we are fixing shit. *Just...slowly.* And that also means don't expect individuals to do a 180° over night, obviously. We should just continue to fix shit so people are more likely to meet the bare minimum. Edit: Basically we should just harness it to do better rather than brush it off.

Can we stop using the word misogyny so loosely. Misogyny is a hatred of women/femininity. Hatred. When we use the word misogyny there is an undertone of the blame being on men and in this case this one is on us. Women have created the beauty industry, and keep all these toxic trends alive to compete with other women. I am tired of seeing “men and the patriarchy” being blamed for women being competitive with other women in an effort to get more attention. Men were fine with us when we had hairy legs and lived in caves. Women started to use home made cosmetics in an effort to outdo one another. Everyone is a girls girl UNTIL someone gets just a little more shine and attention then us. Time we own up to our own toxic nature and start taking accountability for poor behavior. We can’t blame men for it anymore. Also let’s draft women into military service. Time for the true equality we say we want. No excuses.

A Girls Girl to me is a woman who does not position herself above other women, especially to seek the validation of a men. She’s like the opposite of a “pick me.” But I do not think Ariana Grande is one. Not everyone is telling the same lie on this woman. Nicki Minaj is not. Heck, most women have been a pick me at least once. Societally women are put in competition with one another. I still listen to Ariana and Nicki because they make good music at times. Taylor swift is shady and revenge seeking. … but I think she’s pretty supportive of other women. But Nicki… horrible.

Yeah see I think depending on the lens you look at it with, it means different things to different people. And like you said i think a lot of it stems from how women are put in competition with one especially in this industry, particularly. Taylor, Swift I feel like the verdict is still up on her. She absolutely supports other women but something feels a bit often I can’t put my finger on it. However, maybe it’s not my place to even try to figure it out.

Taylor swift supports the rivals of the women she thinks "has potential". Look at the random bff situation with sabrina carpenter. The second olivia breaks the records ts set, her rival, same age same genre even same drama lol, gets befriended by ts and is opening shows at stadiums. Ts only supports women who cant beat her even with her support. She could have the most iconic show with olivia rodrigo opening it and she would do it for cheeeeap if you think ts was her idol. But it would be bad business for ts, making your future rival stronger. Everything is a pr everything is a strategy with taylor swift. Why do we as woman have to always be supporting other woman simply because they are female especially when it’s with famous individuals we know nothing about. Sometimes things happen and fallouts occur that we know nothing about. People sometimes don’t click so why do we expect all celebrities who are woman to get along. I’ve always wondered why we as woman have to be given a title as “girls girl” like why can’t we just exist and support those who we believe deserve it. Not supporting another woman for valid reasons is something that should be more normalized. Some woman are just shitty people so if we don’t want to support them for their actions that doesn’t mean I’m not a “girls girl” or I don’t support all woman.

by focusing on the women in the narrative, the agency of men is also harshly downplayed. we see this with the focus on ariana instead of spongebob, and on nicki/megan instead of megan's list (meg slayed that line, she said what she said). of course they happen to be more famous, but i can also imagine this in my own personal life. not only do the men get off scott-clean when they overstep boundaries, they are also not as protected by the women in their lives. instead of feminist, it is reductive since it assumes solidarity is based on gender, we seperate ourselves in groups because of gender. men are not included in the gossip, the emotional venting, etc. if they were, i feel like they would be much more considerate in their choices, more empathetic. instead, men and women can't be 'just friends' when they care about each other. i dont consider myself a girl's girl because i care about the people in my life because i believe they are good people and i wish them all the best. I really appreciate how balanced your perspective is on this. I personally don’t expect good character or a ton of moral fiber from ANY of these celebrities because rich people exist in a different reality. We don’t know these people personally and we don’t know the shady things they’ve probably had to do for that fame and wealth. On the topic of Ariana, I like her music and being a “homewrecker” isn’t enough for me to boycott someone. I do like her music (but admittedly I’m not a fan of this new release, I think “yes, and” is boring and generic personally) so for me it’s a separating art from the artist thing. There’s definitely a line for me (I don’t listen to Travis Scott or Chris Brown or R.Kelly anymore, but I really don’t judge someone if they do) but I don’t think Ariana has crossed it. Edit: I find it so disgusting as a black woman especially that Nicki refers to Megan as “Bigfoot” because no only it is malicious in terms of the Tory Lanez thing, but I find that it masculinizes Meg.

Hence Aaliyah saying she’s her own competition and I’ve never heard of any woman mentioning any negativity towards her. The princess & the queen.
@silververnallbells191
@silververnallbells191 6 месяцев назад
Whitney and Mariah had beef behind the scenes. Besides Celine Dion (who's fully white) there was no other competition for Whitney besides Mariah. Aaliyah has her place, but she is neither vocally on that level nor on that level w/number ones and sales. edit: Aaliyah's in the same category as Janet Jackson and Ciara. Pretty voices who can sing, but are not powerhouses. Then you have *C.GEANE* who's in between. Check out her song *Foxy Reputation* 🖤

@@silververnallbells191 I never said Aaliyah was a powerhouse vocalist, not debating that - I just don’t understand where you think I got that. Also, no, Whitney and Mariah both didn’t like they were being compared to one another (as they shouldn’t have been) there was never beef, it was wanting respect for one’s craft. They actually became great friends until Whitney’s death, it’s in Mariah’s book.

The double standard is what’s crazy!!! Men have it so much easier. Women are pressured to be besties with each other and give out roses to everyone or else they are evil. It’s ridiculous. We do not know Ari personally. We do not know Nicki. We do not know Meg. We do not know Hailey, Etc. All we know is their public behavior and their musical talent and the men that they surround themselves with. I believe that the longer you’ve been caught up in the industry politics the more likely you are to mentally lose it as a woman. Nicki, I’m sorry baby, but you could’ve spoke on Meek putting his hands on you but you didn’t. She’s trying too hard to be a guys guy because she doesn’t want to feel like she uses the gender card to get more points. Some girls are scared to try too hard to be girls girls because that is also a bad look. Why are you trying so hard to prove that you are besties with everyone??? Like you said in the video, not everyone is going to like you. It’s normal, it’s human!!! The treatment of Men vs women is the main issue and it’s sad.
@CamrynSuzanne
@CamrynSuzanne 6 месяцев назад
It’s absolutely a double standard! The fact that their relationships are expected and put on a pedestal. Men can beef and it’scool, business as usual. Yeah with Nicki that’s also an issue because she’s been a victim of a lot of things no doubt, I just hate how she positioned meg of begging for sympathy. I think she may relate to other ppl more if she was more empathetic because she has been through some shit fr. But like you said at the end of the day no one’s perfect and you can’t like everyone. Also people may have different truths and experiences with you, and maybe their all some versions of the truth. So it can be dangerous to assess somebody’s full character without knowing the full situation

@@CamrynSuzanne yep!! Nicki acts like she’s had it the worst of the worst. And yes she may had to work harder and go thru a lot more gender inequalities back then, than some of the new girls have to face today. She also needs to blame social media for the way rap music has changed, and stop using social media to rant about it like a maniac. Push your pen and keep it moving girl. Wait you're victim blaming Nicki for not speaking up on being abused?? Girl whatever. That's not even the problem tho, you say "we don't know anything about them." Yes, we do. Nicki is LITERALLY public about supporting her pedo husband who was arrested for abusing his stepdaughter, we also know that she supprts her brother who was also accused multiple times for SA. We know that the wife of Ari's new boyfriend never even had real beef with her, that was made up by tabloids. We know that Meg is innocent and was being abused by Tori. I think sometimes the "she's not a girls girl" thing can be used to pit women against each other. But Nikki may be the exception. I think she's clearly a wounded person too, and may she get the love and support she needs, but man. Bringing up the death of someone's mom and shooting is really unforgivable. We’re not calling you guilty of betrayal we’re deeming you guilty of being a bad, detestable, abhorrent person who is selfish/self-serving, callous, dishonorable and has poor ethics/values/morals, low integrity & low dignity. I deeply appreciate that you looked at both sides, I think a lot of women and lil girls are often fed to be kind and friendly or there julius of you.when too often were not taught how to handle our own personal conflict, confidence, emotions. And when we are older we then start imposing our own beliefs and ideas on other women. I've gained an understanding teaching kids and let girls know it's okay that everyone not your friend or likes you, you don't know what they are going through or their motivation. And when I see girls taking a situation to fair I step in it's never okay to go low and be malicious. You can only go off what u can control, allow people to be who they are. I hate hearing (well she did blank to me first). To that I say If it's not true, not causing physical pain, then baby let it go and move away. And to the girl who has taken it too far, I ask what's really the problem. Cause deep down you're pushing your own thoughts on someone and or being mean because whatever you thought up. It took honesty, compassion and conversation with us to move forward and all too often that's never thought to us all or at all. Loved your video ❤

I’m tired of “girls girl” and “pick me”. The two terms I keep hearing too much. I will gladly support women, but yeah I don’t need to support every woman. Especially if there’s problematic ones. Pick me is the worst one in my opinion. I’ve seen a couple women bullied just because they said something positive about men.😂 They weren’t even talking shit about women. One said that she’s met very nice gentleman at the gym who are always supportive. It was under a video about old men who are gym creeps. I think she just didn’t want other women to get discouraged from going to the gym. I personally didn’t see an issue with the comment. I just think some women are now using it to bully other women and surprise, surprise…being misogynistic even though they claim they’re feminists. I want these terms to go away.😂

This video was so insightful and you conveyed everything so well you certainly earned a new subscriber and I believe you'll get to 10K and beyond if you keep making quality content like this! One thing I've noticed that some women interpret the term "girls girl" as defending and supporting other women no matter what. Even if a woman is completely in the wrong, mistreats you, etc it's okay because you owe her nothing and you should support her because you should be a girls' girl🥰It's like, if another asks me where I got my outfit from and I remember, I will tell her providing she's not wronged me in any way. But if a girl who has mistreated me do you really think I'm going to give this girl anything in that regard because TikTok tells me I should be a girls girl? No! To be honest, I understand and like the sentiment behind being a "girls girl" but I also think it overcomplicates thing. Because it's like where do you draw the line? It's like you're a girls' girl for not gatekeeping your outfit, but are you a girls' girl if you give don't gatekeep your outfit from someone like Ariana Grande since she's not a girls' girl? Overall, I think we just need to focus on being decent people, and yes, that can absolutely entail complimenting other women, not gatekeeping where your outfit is from, ensuring another woman is safe irrespective of whether you like her or not, but we don't have to tie ourselves into knots by coming up with a new way to label ourselves every month. Isn't it enough that women just try to be decent people?

I know this is an unpopular opinion but as much as being a girls girl is sold as supporting women and a lot of the time it is, with instances like Ariana Grande, I feel the support of women really falls down. I don't condone taking another womans man at all, but there is absolutely no backlash on him. He was also married and left his wife for her, yet she wrecked the home.. why is that? I notice the amount of hate and commentary women get just doesn't align with the men in said scenarios. You see it with Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jordan, Lori Harvey... there is a bro code but no one ever blasts the men that break it

I'm so happy you made this video. I feel like all the wrong ppl are quick to say and define themselves as girls girls but wanna get in a argument and double down yet still try and yell girls girl unity stuff it's weird to me like if anything be honest. It's like esp if they don't like them too which...okay conflicting defeating the purpose... The act, the facade....? Otot just bc you hate this person more doesn't mean the person you actually like or hate less is more of a girls girl no like again be honest it's not that hard. Idk it's just strange to me ppl will go to do much lengths to say stuff like this or want stuff like this but it's just really not what it is esp w/ them . Another thing abt it is wanting to receive what ur not going to return. Esp at the same rate level and energy. Ppl will misconstrue this when it comes down to it again bc oh she's not as bad as her and we love her for not being as bad as her and going off on her yet you see all the same red flags and again that doesn't make that person more of a girls girl or good person. In pop culture specifically rap I think it's bs how when it comes down to it Nicki for some reason is the ultimate bad person and totally not a girls girl...yet the encourage and praise ppl like cardi and all these other women who have shown to be nasty and have their own problems w/ women yet it's Nicki Nicki Nicki hold them to the same weight. Ateotd none of them are that great that good either. Another thing that bothers me esp when it comes to female rap and things like this specifically like pick a side in the cardi v nicki you'll have ppl on cardi side obviously racist through all there micro and macro aggressions yet bon women specifically will try and dogwalk tf outta another one defending her and ppl on her side that clearly hate actual black women. Ototft most of her victims are black...yet she learned her lesson ...rlly? And she'll still dogshit on the race she wants be the most as fast as her and her circle can. As well as Nicki being a serial defender and them calling her old and too old for the stuff she does yet again cardi is the same way too old to be that immature and is also a whole serial a§aulter too, like it's odd to me. Esp when ppl that wanna work w/ nicki didn't get the chance to do they go to her like her sides better and they're literally the same person if anything (with nicki actually being black).This whole girls girl thing honestly just got out of pocket bc again none of them are can they still be semi ok ppl? Yes, ig. But all for girls and nothing but...no and it shows over time sometimes quicker but still it becomes very visible. So I don't understand why it's equality equality equality accountability this accountability that but it's never the ppl you rlly like only the ppl you hate and then ur adding sum more on there and more importantly nobody is standing back seeing both sides to be rlly balanced and objective. At all. it's so frustrating. Like the ppl that know things like this will never happen say it like it will happen and have this facade and ppl eat it up and it's all just rlly odd to me. Like not everybody has to fit in this one thing ateotd, nor are they really going to. But don't sit here and act like it's achievable and be hypocritical or biased and not own up to any part of it when you couldn't do it successfully consecutively urself and all ur moodboard pieces for it are genuinely fake asf. It's just all around strange to me, another way for all the wrong ppl to continue to put labels on things and more importantly be odd to eo knowing they can't or won't practice what they preach. it's all the fake nice passive aggressive stuff (ppl) hiding it behind the few good things that they do. Like, yea they had a few good points but the rest/ overall was absolute shit and y'all missed that cuz 1 dc enough esp if it's not someone they loathe and 2 they're too busy for some reason hanging on the the only good parts and fail to see the over bad thing abt it bc the bad does outweigh the "good". I'm not saying there aren't good ppl out there obv specifically women w/o all this "girls girl" pretense bs but like still. Ig my point is it's not (clearly ) rlly how they say it is or show it be be for anybody and I mean any · body. I might not have worded it as best as I could of but eh. Good video tho🤎

Women are complex, all the girls who get on Nicki for not being a girl’s girl do tend to purposely ignore how Meg ALSO did her friend in one of the dirtiest ways while still expecting Kelsey to be the girl’s girl when she was the one who was betrayed. “Girl’s girl” to me now sounds like the total opposite of what it’s original intent was. Seems like being relatable is more important than being true to who you really are and having popularity will grant you more sympathy even when there is some accountability to be had on your part too. So no I'm not a "girl's girl" and that's okay.

I see what you’re saying, I wanted to present the well-rounded argument hence why I brought up what people say about Megan. It still doesn’t excuse that people have completely used that stuff as a reason why Meg deserved what happened to her, and that’s my main issue with that. That’s why I say that girls girl is just a fluffy term. Because at this point is more about relatability and who you like more is who you tend to align with

when you were reading the different definitions of what being and not being a girl's girl is for certain people, it felt like i was back in elementary school, reading the girl's dictionnary on how to be a good girl, that you shouldn't speak up, you shouldn't cuss etc... some definitions (not all) just felt like another way to "control"(?) women's action and how women should behave in society. it just felt deeply rooted in misogyny and like women aren't allowed to have flaws. another thing about the ariana situation is that this 'cancel culture' thing has gone too far. i'm all for cancelling rapists and child predators and actual criminals but to cancel a person (especially a woman) just for having relationship drama is simply too far-fetched. also like you said, this doesn't happen with male artists. for example, john meyer, he doesn't only have relationship drama with taylor swift but is basically described as a groomer and people just accept it and it's fine cause it was ten years ago. if we can excuse that, then we can excuse ariana. and a last thing, i absolutely despise it when people use the word home-wrecker to describe the lover instead of the adulterer, like, they're the ones with a family, they're the ones wrecking they're own homes. that's it. thank you for coming to my ted talk

No, really a lot of of those rules are ideal in nature, but they sound kind of petty and a bit simple to outline like that. That’s why I say just because it’s never ending cycle and then you just continuously point the finger. That’s why I said a lot of the stuff comes back to misogyny and women perpetuating it. That’s not to say that as women we can’t be criticized for anything that we do because we people at the end of the day. I just think a lot of things become people just being on their high horse. People is easier than looking at yourself in a mirror.

26:44, that's real. I think there is a difference between fake friendships vs actual advocacy. Imo it's the difference between vibing with your friends in the bathroom but you'll still have a pad or tampon for your mortal enemy if she needed one too.

Im glad that we are talking about this because the way so many women call themselves "girl's girl" when theyre truly not. I know im not really that, i just consider myself a good friend to my friends and my friends do agree for the very few girlfriends I got have relationships going 6+ years, my best friend being 10+ years and he's transitioned to a man. ive have fallen out with plenty of women friends and even strangers because of backhanded compliments and the whole boy crazy thing. I love my man, not that much to be like stan level obsessed with him, however when i was younger i was always boy crazy and i did say backhanded compliments which ngl, i still need to work on according to friends but they say im doing better. I also just feel like treat others the way you want to be treated towards others regardless of gender. However when a woman call me a "girls girl" at the airport bathroom for carrying a pouch full of tampons and maxi pads, i was very perplexed because i thought it was just normal to keep extra on the go incase yor or someone needs one for emergencies. So i feel like its so overused now and it irritates me. Like just be a good person imo. As for the Ari thing: THANK YOU! Like the man needs more whacking than her for leaving HIS wife and child. Like yes, hold Ariana accountable but where is the energy for Ethan? Im not about to stop listening to Ariana music, that's her business and not my friend circle. And Nicki is just a horrible person. Amazing rapper, horrible person.

At first I didn’t really understand how being a “girls-girl” could be so complex, but after watching your video I do see it differently. I still consider myself a “girls-girl”, but my own definition of it. Just someone who looks out for other women, doesn’t put down or make fun of other women, and someone who listens and lifts up other women. I don’t think, however, that I would side with a woman when she’s in the wrong just cause she’s a woman. We are women but we are also human, and humans are flawed and make mistakes. I think holding women accountable when applicable is necessary and honestly does help women as a whole. Thank you so much for your video, it was a good watch and really eye opening! Look forward to watching more videos from you! Much love 💖

I think being a "girl's girl" is real. I'm bisexual and have been involved in the gay/lgbt community forever. I've had conflict with my friends like everyone, but I would never be misogynistic against another woman. I think you can have conflict, even public conflict, without stooping to slurs of any kind or misogynic terms.

I agree especially with the Nicki Minaj piece. I grew up Nicki Minaj and the last time I listened to a Nicki Minaj album was 2016 with the pinkprint. The last time I listened Nicki Minaj in full on her own song is 2018/2019 with Chun-Li. I became a Mixer in 2015/2016 and Leigh-Anne became my favorite due in part that she was the only black girl but always because I really liked her personality. I even got her signed memoir. But when Nicki did that live with Jesy during The Boys promo..I already knew what it was. It was just because she’s on the song that became controversial and she didn’t wanna lose money or whatever due to her feature. I will always recognize, acknowledge, and respect her artistry, her music and her accomplishments. But that was the nail in the coffin for me. It was uncalled, unnecessary, and hypocritical for her to do so and I can’t even listen to her songs the same after everything. Before I could go back and listen to Pink Friday, Roman’s Revenge, Pinkprint and feel nostalgia but I can’t do that now with her. TLDR: I agree with the video. I grew up on Nicki but now I dislike her as a whole person now but i respect her artistry and achievements, and music. She truly is a living legend but I no longer support her

Yess the way Nicki went after leigh ann was LAME. That really made me look at her extremely differently bc of how nasty and uncalled for it was. And i agree, Nicki is an icon and so talented in many ways. I just hate how she’s going out like this

@@CamrynSuzannefrfr she reminds me of Tyra Banks and ANTM and darker skin girls on the show. She just doesn’t like that’s she’s not the only one anymore and my older sister’s a barb so when we were talking about the other day she was like 🫣”I don’t even wanna talk about it bc I’m gonna get mad all over again” lol. Leigh just had twins after that and Nicki knew exactly what she was doing. Leigh was the biggest barb atp out of the girls and she knew that

I’m an ari fan, and before the whole situation I always try to just like the music of the artists not them as a person, cause I basically don’t know them. Now that the whole situation it’s public I do feel disappointed in her, but I still like her music. But I don’t think liking just her music makes me “not a girls girl” I personally would never do what she did. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think you really hit the nail when you went into how being a girls girl is defined differently but the main category is just being a decent human Because personally when it came to the Megan and her friend controversy about talking to the same dude well for her it may have hurt her and for others they may have seen a shady I saw it as just how the world works because I've been in similar situations with my bestie and then all of those cases we just kept moving and whoever got them got them and I've been in the friends exact scenario and I just called it quits and found another cute nigga

I will say one thing positive about the music business today is that anyone could actually become a popstar at any age compare to the 1990s 2000s we’re most artists got signed in their teens or 20s now in 2024 I have noticed people getting signed in there 30s only problem is that record labels only want people who get viral on tiktok which is a shame they should start finding unknown talented people and turn them into pop stars that made it more relatable then tiktok stars and they should go back to how pop use to be and finding unknown artists again that made people care and feel the sense of reliability what do you think of my opinion it’s okay if you have a different opinion but I would love to know your opinion and great video

As a pretty girl(you’ll get why I say this in a moment)I’ve seen all sides of women and how they treat other women and myself. The idea of Girls Girl seems like a far fetched idealized term that women use to make themselves seem more superior than other women who maybe have failed the test at some point in their life and have decided to work on it to become better women sadly they can’t sit with other girl’s girls imo. When you’re pretty tho you see more cattiness in other women in subtle and even upfront ways like sabotaging your image,critiquing your looks and isolating you just cuz you won the genetic lottery and even if you’re kind to other women they’ll take huge advantages of that for their own selfish like maybe ask about what’s going on in your life or how you do your makeup and once you’ve told them they then abandon you and even celebrate when you’re experiencing your failures. BUT the Girls Girl idea has been positive in terms of a “concept” that caters to how girls should treat one another no matter their looks than to seek sabotaging one another to feel better
@markigirl2757
@markigirl2757 5 месяцев назад
Ooof I agree tho I’m not necessarily “pretty” now back in the day when I was younger and way more fem I started getting way more male attention and realized I started having pretty privilege. Needless to say there were girls who treated me very differently as soon as that started happening so I only stayed friends with those that didn’t care or were still good friends to me. But I did run into some chicks that for whatever reason had beef with me and I have no idea whyyy but as I age I look back and realize women do see each other as competition and it still shown throughout it’s jsut now women are finding new ways to shit on others disguising their own envy and jealousy through that and that I think is what is happening with female celebrities 😅
