what an awesome gadget I been sewing for decades, and never used stitch guides. I recently bought a magnetic one, because I want a more professional look to my shopping bags. I love it very much!! This looks right up my alley!

Ilove this tool! I did not know about storing it in the way you so cleverly did. Nancy always selects the best tools. Thank you for a clear and informative lesson.

That was the best presentation for clover stitch guide. I've watched others. Don't know why I didn't see your before. For the first time I sewed a perfect seam on a curve. And also helpful how to clean them and stick them to graph.

I have this and was surprised how well it worked. It is nice to know the cleaning and storing tip as mine is on another side of my machine out of the way when not in use.

Most modern machines have a relatively small metal throat plate. The rest of the bed of the machine is plastic. Thus, depending on the particular machine, there may be no way for the guide to hold with wider seam allowances. Nor enough metal to hold this end to end for a longer guide. And ..... For electronic machines, check with the manufacturer to see if magnets can be used on/near the machine. It may depend on the location, within the machine, of the circuit board and how well it is shielded.

@@oldtimerlee8820 One of the first things I learned was to not have magnets around an electronic sewing machine. It can short circuit the mother board and cause a lot of problems. Even though I'm not a fan of sticky stuff cause it seems to not last as long as it should, I feel this looks like the seam guide for.
@oldtimerlee8820
@oldtimerlee8820 5 лет назад
That's why I don't have them near anything electronic. I have, for example, one of the magnetic pin cushions. It's handy to find pins that have fallen onto carpet or rounding up spilled pins. It lives in a drawer of my treadle machine. IMO, keep magnets away from anything that can be harmed by a magnetic field - including, but not limited to computers, cell phones, credit cards, programmable thermostats / coffee pots, etc. There are other forms of DIY "sticky stuff" that'll work, in a pinch. Multiple layers of blue painter's tape (preferred over regular masking tape) is an example.

I would NEVER put any magnets near my computerized sewing machine that costed me thousands, it will die on me.. I mean would you put any magnets on your expensive watch or PC?? That is really not a smart thing to do.. Also, that is technically not adhesive but a type of rubber. That is why you can wash with water and you can get multiple use out of it unlike "adhesive"..

It is actually Clover Sewing guide, made in Japan originally in cm. I don't know why it is called 6-in-1, as that is not the actual name..

I purchased this notion but it did not come with the template - only the two sticky pieces were in the package. Where can I get the template so I can use this correctly? Thank you.

Hi Pam, If you purchased this at Nancy's Notions you can exchange it for a new one with the needle guide. We do not sell the needle guide separately. It comes packaged with the 6-in-1 Stick'n Stitch Guide from the manufacturer which is Clover USA. You can contact our customer service if you bought it from us here: www.nancysnotions.com/category/customer+service/returns+and+exchanges.do?intcmp=FFRET Thank you for commenting and watching!

Nancy's Notions I purchased it from Hancock Fabric before they went out of business. The packaging was fine and unopened. I wondered how you would know your seam but guessed it would be good to use with my fleece. I wasn’t aware of the template until I watched your video. Unfortunately I cannot return it since they are no longer in business. I have used it a lot when I sew fleece. I’ll look at other notion brands in the future. Thanks for getting back to me.
@oldtimerlee8820
@oldtimerlee8820 5 лет назад
Pam, you can create your own piece of plastic. Cut a square from a piece of clear plastic (recycled from packaging, food containers, etc.). Use a very fine tipped marker to draw lines for seam allowances. Using an old needle, put on machine and pierce the appropriate spots on the lines to mark distances from the needle. Enlarge the hole very slightly with a larger hand sewing (upholstery 4 ex.) needle. PS: I have accidentally disposed of small bits and pieces when opening packages. Fortunately most of the time, reading the directions, before trashcans are emptied, gave the opportunity to retrieve the misplaced item.

You did not show the proper way to sew the inner and outer curve like the photos depicted at the beginning of the video at minute marker :37 and :38. How do we line up the guide when it's further away from the foot and the plastic guide is square?
@NancysNotions
@NancysNotions 6 лет назад
Hi dcwatashi, In this video, Lois is demonstrating another way to use the seam guide. We were not relying on the edge of the presser foot as a guide (shown in the photos on :37 :38) but rather the edge of the seam guide (using the needle placement guide.) We wanted to show another variation how you can make this notion work for you. Turning the seam guide to curved areas and sewing slowly for curves is the best way when the guide is further away. Thanks for watching!
@dcwatashi
@dcwatashi 6 лет назад
Nancy's Notions unfortunately that answer had nothing to do with my question. I wanted to see the method on pictures 3 and 4 which appear on screen about 40 seconds into your video respectively. All you have done is shown how to use this on a straight line. And as you know we don't always sew in a straight line
@oldtimerlee8820
@oldtimerlee8820 5 лет назад
The distance between the needle and the edge of the fabric does not change, regardless of whether we're sewing straight seams or curved seams. If, for example, a seam allowance of 1/2" is needed, the edge of the guide that touches the fabric is set 1/2" away from the needle. Thus, the same technique is used to position the guide, regardless of the direction the seam will follow. The guide helps ensure the same distance from the needle to edge of fabric will be maintained for the length of the seam.. For straight seams, the straight edges of the guide are used. Depending on whether it is an inside or an outside curve, the appropriate curved portion of the guide is used. Hope this helps.

@@oldtimerlee8820 just saw your response I guess for some reason RU-vid did not notify me a year ago I will have to watch this video again because I will reword my question. I don't use this tool much anymore.
