Is a bit of a backlash from people who are paying for a licence. At the same time seeing people saying. I have not bought a license for years but it has not stopped my TV working. It’s obviously that as far as the license goes people can’t be trusted. Funding the National Broadcaster from tax would put a stop to the cheating.

They make you pay the entire licence in 6 months so the instalment is double, then it reduces to the normal rate so you remain 6 months ahead. This makes it much harder for people initially buying a licence, but it means a refund is due once you no longer need a licence as long as you inform TVL. Stopping your direct debit without telling them leaves you licenced for another 6 months with no refund.

@@pjcnetthe 6 month refund was a pleasant surprise. It only took 30 years to get it back.

@@pjcnetPeople have been caught out by obtaining a six month license arranging to pay by monthly instalments. Stopping payments after a couple of months does not cancel the license. Just leaves them in default on their credit payments.

We’re waiting for ours as well. They seem to go through a cycle. A red envelope, dire, then we’re opening an investigation, then threats, then almost begging well with the normal dire warnings. I suppose I should have kept some so see how many different one there are but unfortunately 'Shreddy' gets hungry and wants feeding. Main course and dessert as we get it in Welsh as well. No, like you, we don’t need a license. No, we don’t watch live television. What I want to know is how come this isn’t harassment?

I received a letter yesterday last numbers being 38 have had a letter every month since July last year.

I've had loads of those letters threatening to visit me, I've filed all of them in the bin, and never yet had a visit. If I did I'd just ignore it, there's no law that requires a person to open the door just because people knock.

The BBC has an exception given to it by Government that allows it to send these threatening letters...

HMRC get away with it. They have a behavioural psychology unit who write scary letters often sending them out on Fridays to ruin your weekend.

The licence is also required for watching BBC iPlayer. Due to the terror laws your ISP is logging your online activity. Don’t forget a license may be needed to watching some live internet streaming.

I do a return to sender every time, stating that there is no Mr L Occupier at this address. Blanking out the QR codes so they have to open the envelope to find who it was sent to. For this one I also write and you are G00N5 under the reference number in the window, also blacking out part of the logo on the envelope so it says TV Lice. For the envelope with the "we are opening an investigation" message in the window, I write more than you can say for this envelope under the window, before sending it back. If nothing else it must waste the Post Offices time and money, which will hopefully eventually lead to higher charges to the TV Lice.

Best option when they show is say you're not interested in BBC but can they recommend any Sky or NetFlix subscriptions and ask if they also have a big van with lot sof pictures on like sky do....

Just remember having TV equipment of any kind doesn't require a licence.

You don’t need a working aerial to watch live TV or BBC iPlayer. Many use smart TVs, tablets or phones. As a result of the terror laws your ISP logs the registered users online activity.

@@TheOriginalCoda I'm the same sort off. I don't have a driveway or a garden to park on, so if my car isn't taxed, then I can't have it outside of my house on the road. But in reality, my house is up to the middle of the road albeit adopted by the council who then look after it. So if my car isn't taxed, I'm stuffed anyway. If your driving your car on the road untaxed, then you are committing an offence and you can be fined. So they are finding you guilty, before they have found you committing an offence???? Thought this country's law was 'Innocent until proven Guilty' ????

@@JustMeZero988a few years ago I went on holiday for two weeks. I had an old car on the drive which was taxed but the 3rd party insurance ran out whilst I was away. They fined me for it! I phoned them up to tell them I hadn’t been driving the car. They said it didn’t matter. All cars have to be insured unless they are SORN. I asked how I was meant to know about this new rule/law. They said it had been on TV, but I don’t watch TV🤦‍♂️

actually... tell a lie, if you've registered your iPlayer account with the same email you declared to TV licencing that you don't need a licence, they _can_ in theory apply an address to your iPlayer account and extrapolate from there.

I would have cut out the bits with your name, address and other personal details. ID theft is one of the major forms of crime these days.

Yup. Same here. Did the online thing, did get one visit shortly after, politely told him I didn't need a licence without lettinghim in, he said he'd update the system, and I've never heard another word since. I also moved house five months ago and still haven't had a visit or a letter. I get the point that I shouldn't have to ask not to be harassed, but doing the declaration online seems to work and I'd think it would be a lot less potentially frightening for people if more of them did likewise. Of course, it helps if you *genuinely* don't need a licence and aren't just avoiding paying what you rightfully should! Happily for me, there isn't even a TV in the house these days, so my conscience is clear and I'd even happily walk a goon through the house if he or she asked nicely. 😅

@@laceandwhisky Well, to a degree, but plenty of people do admit. One of my pals, stupidly admitted, he needed one. He was just not ready and prepared and instead of closing the door he spoke to them and admitted. Of course, he felt daft and embarrassed. I have had a goon ask me questions before, I did not find it intimidating at all and I did not think he tried to trick me at all. I was never asked to sign anything, he just asked me to go online and fill in a declaration. If one came to my house now, I would just say no thank you and close the door.

Like I say, it’s personal choice and we all have our different reasons. The reason they write every 2 years, is somewhat understandable, it’s in case the homeowner has changed.
