Towing angle and axle placement is everything !! Atop buying horribly designed trailers with axles all the way back. This makes tongue much heavier. Try to buy trailera with axles closer to the middle and also always have your trailers nose sit higher than back end to transfer weight away from ball to axles. While maintaining a positive enough tongue weight
This is a GREAT video!! I bought a different brand tongue scale for my trailer this spring because I just wanted peace of mind for my truck payload. Ok so Grand Design advertises my hitch weight on our Imagine 2600RB at 594#’s. Fully loaded and ready to roll, my hitch weight is only 740#’s. That’s maybe 150 less than I expected. I’m thrilled, and the tongue scale is one of the best tools I’ve ever purchased for my RV. 😁
Yes; I was shocked when I weighted my loaded hitch on a State scale. I also weighed each axel as well. I had done everything several times but had never disconnected the trailer and placed just the jack stand on the scale. I had weighed the back axle of the truck loaded & empty as well just to confirm. Factory indicated 650#, mine was 1100# with full propane and batteries and trailer loaded.
Doesn't look like we could use it with the Propride😔 But appreciate another short and to the point product review. We scaled ours and the hitch weight was an eye opener. This product can really be useful to folks in understanding the effect on the tow vehicle's payload. Now just need a reasonably priced set of scales for individual tires.
Ive been shifting wt to back trying to reduce tw, and while tongue was on the scale my wife climbed in the back door and tw did not change at all!! Ive always treated the point between the axles as the fulcrum, but suspension is apparently much too stiff for load shifts to have a see saw effect. I can retract my tongue jack off the ground but the tongue will not touch the ground. The 2 axle suspension wont flex that much. Very surprising.
This is an interesting topic. I have a heavy travel trailer (24k) with 2,700 pound tongue weight. As things change with what we carry I would like to have a tool like this but I’ve not found one with that high of capacity. The search continues……
Did the bathroom scale trick last week because my pressure gauge scale was giving readings that didnt make sense. Had to order new gauge, mine read 150 with no load. They are aparently fragile.
Just curious, now that it’s August, what was the tongue weight for the trailer? Was the trailer empty or loaded for camping? BTW I really enjoy your RU-vid channel.
@@WanderingWeekends there are a lot of 5ths under 30 feet and pin weights under 2100 pounds. Would be nice to know if this or a derivative of this could be used for those?
@@WanderingWeekends Is there any "rule of thumb" as to how much weight comes off the tongue and on to the RV when using a WDH? I.E, in general 10% of the hitch weight comes off the ball and goes back to the RV? THANKS!
The actual review of the product was just you saying yeah, it's accurate. Is the tongue weight of your trailer some government secret that must be protected? Useless review for my purpose, which is to find a similar trailer to mine and see what the weight roughly is so I can buy the right scale.
At the time I was under an NDA with this trailer. I don’t like being sued, do you? It’s an accurate scale. Pretty simple. What else is there to say? Well built and accurate. The end.
