GAME: Fate/Samurai Remnant
AUTHOR: Omega Force, Koei Tecmo
Fate/Samurai Remnant lets players play as Miyamoto Iori. The combat is hack and slash style with some similarities to musou gameplay, but it falls under the Action RPG genre with dodging and looking for openings as an important element. It features a wide array of stances, which the player character can switch between on the fly. Iori uses dual katanas, a widespread weapon for Samurai during the Edo period. Players can give commands to their servant, launching special attacks and combos. In certain situations, the game allows for full control of Iori's servant, as his weapons can't be used against other servants.

To elaborate on Nasuverse, they all do exist in the same universe. But thats pretty much in the same way that, say, the Final Fantasy games exist in the same universe. Technically speaking they do, they all cross over into each other at some point (Dissidia for FF, Fate/Grand Order for Nasuverse), and there are plot points and terms and parallels shared in between entries, but thats as far as it goes. For example, in an interview (I think, or could have been side material) about the Tsukihime side of the lore, they say that the idea of a heroic spirit being summoned there is "laughable", due to how crazy that world already is. In the Fate side however, one of the iconic monster groups of Tsukihime were literally retconned out by Nasu mid pizza party (he just straight up told his cowrokers that they didnt exist in Fate, only in Tsukihime lore). All in all, they exist under the same umbrella, even if they are different universes, and will share a lot of lore and world building with each other. Also, Fate does have an Aphrodite, and she is NOT much of an erotic character in the franchise lol. Yeah, looot of characters outdo her

Now that you know that the waxing moon is a bad copy of the holy grail is the reason why the ruler class is summoned. The ruler class is meant to be the referee of the war during strange circumstances, and with the waxing moon being a holy grail off of wish, with it summoning over twice as many servants and the other stuff, circumstances are definitely weird. So you may be asking “But if that’s the case, why isn’t the ruler doing anything about Tsuchimikado?” Well, because Ruler of this war just happened to be Gilgamesh, who was so disgusted by the waxing moon, he opted out.

Fun fact, Circe here was designed by an artist named Hidari, who may be best known for their work on Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia as well as the Atelier series. She's a fairly popular character for being mischievous and her connections to several other Greek heroic servants. To me, she gives me big "40 year old weed aunt who acts like she's 21 still at family functions" energy. In the mobile game, she actually is (as far as I'm aware) the only Servant who can give enemies the unique "Pig" status ailment, which also works in this game when you use her. It's actually way better here than in FGO lmao

29:10 Straight answer No, Nasu is always credited as the creator and story supervisor of the story but he doesnt write every single piece of media himself on its entirety. here is what he said in an interview about the writing process of Samurai Remnant: "Nasu: The entire FGO writer team, myself included, got together to define the cliff notes version of the plot and all the character profiles, then the Koei Tecmo Games writer team wrote the script based on that. Then they returned it to Higashide and Sakurai for supervision... and that's where it got into a loop."

As someone with a Greek mythology phase growing, I'm torn between being impressed that Nico remembered the Nymphs and their names, and frustrated that Nico somehow didn't recognize Circe after she dropped two big references (turing Iroi into a pig with food and outright namedropping Odysseus) to her big apperence in The Odyssey.

Here is some stuff for you to know: -Circe turning Iori into a pig is a reference to what she did to Odysseus's crew in The Odyssey, yes Odysseus is also a servant. Anyway, Circe has been a servant since her introduction in Part 1.5 of Fate/Grand Order's story. Also, 1.5 of FGO just explain what happens between Parts 1 and 2 while being extremely optional despite how part of it is related to Musashi's story. - Saber's identity is something that the game expects you to know by this point. Especially if you know both Japanese history and mythology. But the Log Book will update to show it. So check it regularly. -This wasn't mentioned, but Masters can actually back out of rituals similar to the Waxing Moon by giving up their servants and command spells in exchange for protection. But a master without a servant can form a new contract with another servant. Especially rouge servants who already have no masters. - Holy Grail Wars can have both experienced magic users and completely random people to be masters that can each have a servant. And when a Grail War gets truly Chaotic, the Ruler Class servant is summoned to maintain order and are granted 2 command spells for every servant present, this is because a Ruler can't have a master unless they're in FGO. Anyway, Gilgamesh being the Ruler summoned means he's doing his own thing because he doesn't want to be bothered with the Waxing Moon. -Tsukihime is a completely different timeline from Fate that can't crossover due to how it's drastically different thanks to its own rules of natural order. But there are some expectations that do exist due to how they're unique timelines. - Today is the 64th birthday of Akio Ōtsuka. Who is the Japanese voice actor of Jojo's Wamnu, Bleach's Shunsui Kyōraku, Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid, and one of the Rider Class servants in the Fate Series. So you best wish him a happy belated birthday. Edit: Added information

Glad you brought up Nasu, so I’ll break it down on who’s writing this game. The one who originally proposed this game to Nasu, was Koei’s Kou Shibusawa who had gone out to eat with Nasu. Shibusawa’s a big fan of FGO, and particularly Musashi, so he pitched the idea of a Fate game to Nasu. Nasu would have loved to be the main writer for this game! …but the dude’s super fucking busy. So Nasu’s main contributions to this game were generally being the guy in charge of keeping lore intact and keeping the wider world stuff, and the game’s Main Character Miyamoto Iori who he created basically everything about from concept, to personality, to general character arc. He didn’t actually write most of Iori’s dialogue and such though, again because he was so busy, although he always looked over scripts. It’s more like he gave them the guidelines for him and made sure everything was written in character and such. A tier bellow that is Nasu’s friends he called up Hikaru Sakurai and Yuichiro Higashide. They’ve been friends with Nasu for years and have done various Fate things, and end up handling more of the specifics of the general plot. To break it down a bit, Sakurai was in charge of the Saber Camp, Rider Camp, Assassin Camp, and Berserker Camp, while Higashide handled the Archer Camp, Lancer Camp, and Caster Camp. Since Sakurai was in charge of the MCs she was admittedly more involved than Higashide by a bit. And at the very bottom is Koei’s writers, the same guys behind Fire Emblem Three Houses! They were the actual script writers, and wrote most of the dialogue. They kinda passed the script back and forth between Sakurai/Higashide and Koei though, basically each punching it up again and again until they were satisfied. With Nasu checking in every once in a while of course. So TLDR it goes: Nasu=Lore guy and Iori creator Sakurai/Higashide= Fleshed out the actual story and characters handling most of the skeleton of the game. Koei writers=Actually wrote the game’s script and finer details. Oh yeah and to just be complete, on the other miscellaneous characters Tamamo Aria was Higashide, although the OG Tamamo was Nasu’s creation. Higashide was also behind Kaya. Higashide and Nasu were both credited for Jeanne, as was the case with the original, although this version of Jeanne was seemingly mostly Higashide with Nasu just making sure to look over her to make sure everything was in order. They were also both credited for the Crimson Codex. Both Rogue Saber and Rogue Berserker are Sakurai’s creations. And Musashi is credited as both Sakurai and Nasu’s character. Nasu created Musashi originally, but it seems this “Berserker” version was also an idea of Sakurai so she was credited. They’re also both credited for Iori, although again Nasu appears to have created most of Iori’s general skeleton and everything with Sakurai simply executing on his ideas. The rest of the Rogues are cameos from previous works, so I won’t mention them.

I have to assume the reason Archer got taken over so quickly was because of his Independent Manifestation passive. It makes it so the Archers don't have to rely as much on their masters in case they need to snipe from far away, but that means he's more tethered to the leylines, and extra prone to the mind control spells

Since we will soon find out Saber's True Name, I'd like to discuss the concept of the saberface. That's the name Grand Order gives to characters that have a face similar or identical to Stay Night!Saber's. Common reasons for why they do include: A: Their personalities are meant to be compared and/or contrasted B: Their legends have thematic similarities C: They are related D: They actually *are* the same person summoned as a different class E: They're a parody Servant F: Jeanne D'Arc. Nasu didn't write this story start to finish, but he did supervise. Most of the writing work was done by Hikaru Sakurai and Yuuichiro Higashide, other members of Type-Moon who've written other Fate stories. From what I can tell, each Servant has a specific writer who comes up with all their abilities and backstory, and so they get asked if there's any questions on how they would work if they're going to put them in a new game. But Kinoko Nasu has the final say to make sure things overall end up consistent.

A *LOT* happened this episode, so lets break it down one-by-one, starting with an important warning *Sabers True Name is meant to be known by the player at this point* As a Japanese game taking place during historical Japan, the devs probably felt like the players would be able to know who Saber is, which is then "confirmed" by lip reading what Iori said. This is necessary to know because a logbook entry that you can get as early as next episode will just nonchalantly say who Saber is, understandably so. For this reason, it might be better to outright ask a mod about Sabers true name, or keep guessing until the logbook updates with said entry. Now with that out of the way, lets talk about the events that happened in chronological order Circe is your best ally as she doesnt fall for the mind control, as such she has the most availability even in NG+, so its important to understand her kit. She does not do that much damage in comparison to other servants, however she makes up for it by having the best "oh shit" button in the entire game, her 1 bar affinity gauge move. Other 1 bar moves usually staggers the enemy a bit, but not hers. She turns enemies hit by it into a pig, *which can include bosses*, on top of a stun that makes the total time an enemy cannot do anything, longer than what other servants can provide. Next up, since I already talked about Saber, lets talk about Ioris new stance instead, Void stance. It's busted. It has a long range and at max hp, is also incredibly fast (and is blindingly fast if you have Water afterglow), not to mention its afterglow effect which is giving every other stance a projectile on each slash (or as you'd like to call them, GETSUGA TENSHOUs). The biggest downside of void is that it can be awkward to use with Fire Stance as one wants you to be max health while the other wants you to be low health, however its not that big of a deal as you can just switch between them depending on your HP. If you can manage to get each others afterglow (easiest way is by doing a riposte), be ready to see enemy HP melt stupidly fast. Last but not least, the most painful event. Archers death. The first victim of the Waxing Moon Ritual. I half expected it since Zheng and Archer has been steadfast allies, but it doesnt make it hurt any less. Zheng wasnt willing to discard Archer who he has regarded not just an ally, but an irreplaceable companion. Archer, knowing that his masters attempt to break the mind control is futile, even with command spells, resorted to the only thing left he can do to help him.

Yeah, pretty much anyone who's had to study Japanese history would know who Saber is by now. It's been kinda obvious with the sword and NP but this makes it explicit as heck, even Iori's lip flaps totally match the name correctly despite being muted.

You hit the nail on the head. While masters can choose to forfeit their servants and exit the war, doing so usually means death. Since they're a master and they have command spells, that means that it's possible for them to contract with a different servant later on, and killing the masters is almost always seen as the highest form of insurance that they will no longer participate in the war.

The thing with Nasuverse and how each series is differentiate is thanks to how they are different timeline. The two largest series of Type-Moon Tsukihime and Fate for example, cannot coexist with each other. Due to how Servants are summoned thanks to the strength of humanity they cannot be summoned if the timeline/world they're in have humanity's strength lowered and mystical beings like vampires roaming about more freely. Fate are stories about summoning servants and battle royale, focusing heavily on historical and mythological events. Tsukihime is a story about a boy having to deal with a bunch of super powerful vampires, and there exist a group of extremely powerful vampires that the mage society is trying to get rid of, full of beings that are basically specialized in human killing. You can't call everything Fateverse or Tsukihimeverse because they are inheriently conflicting timelines. It's why people call everything collectively as Nasuverse as a way of addressing these works. In the first place Fate wasn't even the first Type-Moon works, so calling it Fateverse seems kinda BS.

I'm not super familiar with everything lore wise in the natsuverse so correct me if im wrong, but I believe vampires can exist in the fate timelines. Dead Apostles show up in fate/zero and I believe the new anime announced (I can't remember the name), and Arcueid shows up in extella but that was more of a gag and moon cell so I think that ones a pass

@@leonport1181they can but they can only be a certain level of strength and are an order of magnitude weaker than their tsukihime counterparts. There has been incidents when people look up Nero Cladius or Astolfo. Out of the 2, Astolfo is so popular, most people don't know he came from fate. God, Circe got such a glow-up in this game. She's one of the Servants in this game who was made for Fate Grand Order (the mobile gacha), and her debut in the story there wasn't a particularly big thing. There's a lot of Fate Grand Order units that have really cool designs and backstories but don't get to do much in the main story proper - probably just released to milk money out of people who want more waifus. I really hope future games get to use more FGO characters, and not just the most popular, plot-relevant 5-star ones (like Musashi is).

Random Fate Trivia #11 It's time for another VA trivia, hurray! Last time we did Kaya, now let's appeal to all the Dorothea fans out there. While the character herself isn't actually based on a real person (though her dad is), her VA is definitely not a work of fiction. In fact, she's quite popular. Dorothea's VA is Aya Hirano! You know, Lucy from Fairy Tail, Konata from Lucky Star, Haruhi from Haruhi? She also voices Monaca from Danganronpa! Oh, hold on, there's also another notable role she's done. Let's see...Migi from...Parayste Maxim. Wait, isn't that the main character's hand? *And here I thought Kaya voicing a pig from Seven Deadly Sins was weird.* Oh yeah, remember when Nico said that Dorothea's eyes reminded him of Makima? Well, funny he actually mentioned that because Aya Hirano does play Makima in a stage play of Chainsaw Man!

Circe simply giving Iori her name is a nod to the mobile game, which could hide a Servant's name from the player until the story reveals it (summoning Circe early labeled her Caster of "chapter name", for example). Circe was so bad at hiding her identity that it barely lasted a single scene. Circe replaced another servant for Rogue Caster because they would need an info dump to explain the original choice's connection to female!Musashi, and didn't feel like doing that.

So fun story I just remembered In my sophomore year of high school during like the first initial weeks of starting I went to my English/Writing class We went in there, sat down, goofed off a little until class started which usually in the beginning is just the teacher showing a powerpoint presentation on who they are and what they like. So my teacher was going through the slides until she got to the kinds of stories she likes and like right in the top right corner I see that iconic Saber design with blond hair and armor and I was like "Wait a minute... HUH?" I kinda forgot about what she was talkin about after that point because I was just in that "wow ok, that's something new from a teacher" thought process. In the end she turned out to be one of my favorite teachers that year, just funny to think about what I know about the series now compared to what I knew back then (Damn you Tanner...)

Since a lot of things happened in this episode, i want to clarify what Circe and Tsuchimikado were saying about the nature of the Waxing Moon, the Rogues and how it is different from the Holy Grail. Imagine the Holy Grail being like a machine, Tsuchimikado tries to replicate it, but since he doesn't have the specifics of it, he ends up with something that's not as good. On the surface, they are the same, “wish granting devices”, but as he says in 30:03 “Not enough for a global salvation, but it is sufficient to produce a small miracle”. Not only the Waxing Moon is weaker than the all-powerful Holy Grail, but as Circe says it's very sloppy and wasteful of resources. That's what the Rogues are, they actually don’t have a purpose in this Ritual, they are just additional summons made by the Waxing Moon just because. Also why this system looks inconvenient for them, as they are linked to a specific leyline and can’t leave their territory for long. It's why Circe, Gilgamesh and Caster are dismissive of the Waxing Moon, calling it a “sham”. Another big difference between the Holy Grail and the Waxing Moon is that on a Holy Grail War, the summoned servants actually are imbued with lots of knowledge about History, which is why a servant from the past could try to guess the identity of someone from a far future than them, and knowledge about the time they are being summoned in, that way they don’t go “What is this foul beast of metal with people inside!???”, but rather they go more like “So this is a car. Very different from the carriages from my time” or something like that. In contrast to the Waxing Moon, where earlier Saber was in the dark about what the Shogunate was and still thought the Imperial Family ruled Japan.
@Blogdelgamer
@Blogdelgamer 7 месяцев назад
Now an explanation for the final class in the usual holy grail war, Caster. Caster: To tell you a bit about the Caster class, first lets talk about magic. In the Fate lore magic is divided in 2 types(as far as I know); Magecraft, the usual type of magic that mages(or magus) wield in which they channel their magic from different mediums (gems, necromancy, alchemy, etc.) think of it like in order to cast a spell you require materials to prepare the spell., and True Magic the type of magic that Casters can usually wield. They wield this type of magic by tapping from a source known as the Root, the source where everything related to magic, mystics, etc. comes from. (I'm not too sure about this, this is just my own take) Casters have the skill Territory Creation in which lets them define areas to absorb mana form the earth and drain mana from its enemies. Also this class is so crafty that they can even summons Servants themselves.

Nasu wrote the original basics of the entire nasuverse and its lore along with the original stories all the spinoffs are based on. So he wrote fate stay night, tsukihime, kara no kyoukai the garden of sinners and mahou tsukai no yoru (witch on the holy night) . Which are the original 4 main stories of the nasuverse multiverse. Kara no kyoukai takes place in fate timelines and mahou tsukai no yoru takes place in tsukihime timelines. The nasuverse is officially split between the two main realities with further splits from there into infinite possibilities. In short , nasu is basically the stan lee of Japan 😂 he actually has mentioned American comics like marvel and how hed like to have an entire dynasty of writers using his fiction and lore as a basis for their own stories. To that end we have games like this which he supervises.

29:00 : Nasu just had general oversight over this game, with the main writers being those who wrote Fire Emblem Three Houses and two other Type Moon writers (who've done other Fate works of their own) working more closely with those Koei writers. In general, Nasu oversees pretty much all of the Nasuverse's writing, but lately he's been personally writing the Tsukihime remake and a few chapters for the mobile game. As for Aphrodite, she's one of the most tame interpretations I've seen. If anything, Artemis is closer to what you'd expect.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it already, but the actual writing team is the same from Fire Emblem Three houses. Nasu did the planning while two of the writers from the mobile game helped supervise it. On the topic of Nasu, his name literally translates to Eggplant Mushroom. It's an alias. We actually don't know his real name, what he looks like, or much about him outside the bits and pieces that he's revealed, to the point where there's a joke conspiracy theory in the fandom that he's actually a woman just like some of the genderbend servants. One extra tidbit: Circe is the only preexisting Rogue servant that's debuting in a proper console game. Others like Lancer and Assassin were already playable in the more standard musou Fate/Extella and its sequel, though I don't think they reused anything from those games, as they're made by another studio. Even more interesting, originally the Rogue Caster spot was meant to be taken by a different existing servant, but they decided to change it to Circe because the original candidate is friends with Musashi and they thought that two characters having a relationship from outside the game wouldn't be good for newcomers to the series. Personally, not the best reason, but I'm glad they did because there's already too many japanese servants, so Circe is a really good and fun addition.

I wanna throw my hat into the ring to try and guess who some of these Servants are. I know very little about Fate, but I love researching history and folklore for personal projects. So here's who my current theories are. Saber: Even tho Saber's identity has been all but confirmed at this point, I still wanna say my original theory. I believed Saber was Susano-o, given the water motif, their sword which I still believe is the Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, and the slaying of Yamata-no-Orochi. Caster: This one is the one I'm most confident in guessing, I think he's Abe no Seimei. He's the most well known Onmyoji there is, and if my hunch is correct then it leads to an interesting dynamic between him and Tsuchimikado, who's supposedly a descendent of Seimei. Rider: This one is hard to pin down because of his connection to Rogue Saber, but after a bit of research with the "oger" remark as a lead, I think Rider might be Shuten-Doji, the Oni King. Assassin: I'm not gonna lie, I'm genuinely stumped on this one. I'm starting to think him summoning Yamata-no-Orochi was supposed to be be more a hint to Saber's identity than Assassin's, because I've come up with jack all when researching it. Rogue Saber: Likewise with my guess on Rider's identity, my guess for Rogue Saber would be Minamoto-no-Raiko, the person who slayed Shuten-Doji. Rogue Lancer: Even as someone who knew extremely little about Fate, I instantly recognized this guy, so not gonna say who it is. Rogue Archer: I also know who this one is, because a friend of mine is a big fan of this guy. Rogue Assassin: I have no idea who this guy is, I don't even know where to start. I interpreted Musashi's remark about him as a nod to the mobile game, not a hint of his identity. He could be Bruce Lee for all I know. Rogue Berserker: The chains on his design are the thing I keep latching onto, and Circe's addition means Greek figures are on the table. My guesses for him are either Atlas, Cottus (one of the three Hecatonchieres), or Goliath.
