I definitely want to say that getting over the fear and dread that may come with editing/posting videos is also a huge help. Sometimes you create something with a bit less effort to get the ball rolling, and then you're able to create more complex stuff if you wish. I had kept trying to create more dense videos, but realized that with my school schedule, I needed to back off of that a bit and focus on videos that feel good to make and are simple was the best option to start up again.

That's what I've had to do too. I’ve been trying to do one painting a week for my art channel and not a lot of editing goes into each because I'm currently working full-time as a Deaf Education teacher and also have a part-time job to pay for car insurance and get ahead on student loans. I work about 60 hours a week, but sometimes more, depending on school paperwork. I don't have enough time yet for a lot of the things I want to do. Once school is done (in two weeks yay!) I'm planning on jumping in full-time into two channels one for art and one for sharing Biblical, historical, and scientific information in ASL for the Deaf Community to have access. It just takes time and I know right now I can't do everything. I'm able to complete one painting and video a week, but setting up my art shop and the other RU-vid channel is going to have to wait two weeks. I'm super excited for the future, even if it means working really hard for two years or so before seeing growth!

a tip to be interested in the film/editing process: find an aesthetic you're excited about!! if thats using a cute font to have captions built into your videos, or a format you enjoy, or even picking out some copyright free music you enjoy to place in your videos- that actually goes a really long way in inspiring you to actually sit and edit the video! for filming having a space to film in that is efficient and I really enjoy helped motivate me too!

Haha the ending was great, and all the other advice too :) Thanks for being so realistic about how much effort you need to put into videos, and about having to treat filming and editing as an artform. It took a while for me to realise how many different skills you need to make a genuinely good youtube video. Writing, filming, editing, charisma and it's all pretty overwhelming (especially if english is not your first language and you don't want to sound super silly), but your videos really help to make it a bit less overwhelming, thank you :)

While I understand the tip of separating the things you do, as someone with a severe energy deficiency and a complicated relationship with art, that has never worked for me and won't until I can at least get someone else to handle my socials. The only thing that happened was I became hyper aware of just how badly one of my art styles did in comparison to the other when I separated them into two different social accounts. But in reality, it wasn't actually doing that badly? It was more that me putting it on a different account made it have less eyes on it and therefore I started thinking it had less value. When I put it back on my main account? It was nerve-wracking, but ultimately I was much happier and found that I do have supporters who will love both types of work. It's not that I don't see where you're coming from, but I also think it's important that we allow ourselves to be people rather than brands if we need it. It's probably true that I'm sacrificing quicker growth for my sanity's sake though. But I don't want to wind up hating myself and feeling trapped years down the line. I just think sometimes taking it slow is better, for the sake of building a more sustainable foundation for your art and business. You're damn right that you should always love at least one aspect of what you do though. And you have lots of really good advice throughout your whole channel :) Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the tips! I have a hard time choosing between art and writing for my channel, so I try to include a bit of both, but probably need to focus on writing exclusively and stick to Instagram only for art probably. Thank you for the insights! I think I'm very much already applying most of what you talked about, I feel like I analyze everything I watch and the ending your videos part is something I picked up recently. Viewer retention and all that :') For me, the real struggle is the mental one. All the analyzing made me twist the facts of what I could still use some work on to prove that I'm "not as good as these people" which in turn demotivates me. But I've been getting help for that too and am on my way to reprogram those thought patters. Another topic I wanted to talk about regarding the separate channels thing: My channel grew big on animations centering around Genshin Impact and I eventually realized that that wasnt what I want my content to focus on. So basically I switched to art content (honestly I very much am not sure what type of content I want to be making yet so I'm still trying stuff out) and as you could expect, it is not doing well AT ALL. And that's frustrating because I know the content itself isn't bad. It's mainly that RU-vid thinks my audience is Genshin Impact viewers and those people don't have a huge overlap with my new content. I sometimes wonder if I should make a new channel and move my art content over there but I'm scared to abandon everything I've worked on so far. I already took a huge step (that may or may not have any impact) and unlisted most of those videos that made my channel what it is now in hopes that the algorithm will slowly learn who my new audience is supposed to be. Tldr: content creation is hard when your mental health is scuffed so take care of yourselves 💜 And thanks again for all the great content you produce! Seeing your success gives me hope that I can make this work out eventually.

Honestly, I've seen so many successful art channels on here that only focus on their art so it is possible! Find those channels and look at their videos. What makes them interesting? If business content isn't what you want your channel to be about, don't make that content. The people you attract from those videos will likely want to see more of that content. Having viewers for content that you aren't passionate about or that you dont want to make content for in the long run is very frustrating. Been there done that 👌 Best of luck to you!

So, are you a full time artist or a full time RU-vidr with an art niche? I suppose you can be both, but to be a full time RU-vidr you pretty much have to be in a product mindset it just really lucky. I don’t want a product mindset. It’s bad for me, it’s bad for my art, and it’s bad for the creativity I put out into the world and the community. 😊Once again I really enjoyed this video. It has come to me pretty close to the right time. I am contemplating setting up both a web site and a You Tube site for the art that I have been doing for well over 50 years. I am retired and have spent several months going back through old boxes and seldom used shelves or drawers looking for much of my earlier art. From that I am ‘redoing’ what I sketched or painted way back. Much of it is at most reference material, but the new pen and ink drawings, some with a watercolor wash, are pretty good I have been told. We will see. First I need to do some writing, editing, filming, editing, and of course sketching and drawing. No famous overnight stuff. It will be work, but win or lose it will be fun or I will not do it. Alternatively, I, occasionally, incorporate it into my channel and give "Rob" his own channel. I use an "ai animated" photo of my cat to "host those spots. I've started polling my audience to see what they want to see as opposed to just doing "real time" paintings. I would 100% want to listen, its about what you say, not how you say it for me :) I think when building your channel/brand things like that are unique to you, people get used to it, and you can even inspire other people that struggle with the same thing. It is definitely hard, Im sure, I dont want to diminish your struggle in any way, just wanted to say that I would totally watch, regardless of stammering ❤ I also think it is so hard for everyone in the beginning to talk to the camera and/or include voice so I understand this is an extra added hurdle for you. how do you know whether this particular thing works for particular channel? You need stats for long period of time and similar settings while changing only one. But research of lots of variables with vague criteria leads to distorted wishful thinking

I didn’t suggest one particular thing in this video so I’m not fully understanding the point of your comment? Either way, A/B testing various formats and subjects can definitely be done on a brand new channel. I think you should of course write down (or at least be aware of) the hypothesis you want to test when doing any experiment, and then likely sort them and compare the data via the groups feature in the advanced analytics tab. Regardless, I think it’s obvious that you should change *something* if nothing is working, and improving the quality is an absolute no brainer

@@KelseyRodriguez Yes, I mean that doing this research I have no idea what was the main factor that author got 20k or 150k views: is it because of preview design, endscreens or some direct links from social networks... Do you know how to collect stats for other channels? Say, now they have 500k subscribers, and I want to see how fast they grew.

You can see all of this info in YT analytics for your channel and on Socialblade for other channels

So if you can't even hold the camera like you know nothing about filming, would you just suggests like taking a film course online to learn how to actually make you two videos? Because I've never used the camera in my life

There are tons of youtube videos that will teach you all about cameras and filming and video editing. Watch the stuff that’s available for free before investing in a course!

RU-vid is so weird sometimes though… the stuff I work hard on.. lighting, sound and storytelling etc gets less views then ones I just throw together randomly. My top video is literally the worst art Ive ever done 😂 Do you ever experience that?
@KelseyRodriguez
@KelseyRodriguez Год назад
literally all the time. but the video I throw together in an hour has an appeal that the better ones lack, you gotta figure out what that it is and how to incorporate it into your better content

Honestly, since TikTok RU-vid audience is stagnant. Worse for artist.
